Temperature-dependent torque transmissibility characteristic for automotive dry dual clutches
Dry clutches are widely used in automated manual transmissions. In order to obtain 'good' clutch engagements a precise torque transmissibility estimation is crucial. In this paper, a temperature-dependent model of the torque transmissibility characteristic for dry dual clutches is proposed. Dynamic models of the clutches thermal evolutions are determined and linked to the characteristics of the mechanical components influencing the torque transmissibility. Numerical simulations obtained by considering a realistic powertrain model with a dry dual clutch transmission and a corresponding multivariable controller, confirm the effectiveness of the proposed model
Optimizing HiRep lattice simulations on CPU-based computer clusters
In the scientific exploration of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) —the theory governing the strong interaction among quarks and gluons— large-scale numerical simulations are performed using the framework of lattice gauge theories. Lattice Gauge Theory (LGT) simulations involve the formulation of gauge field theories on a finite space-time lattice. HiRep is a simulation suite designed for running lattice simulations, leveraging high-performance computing platforms. The implementation of the Dirac operator application in HiRep is identified as one of the most computationally intensive routines. As such, we optimize the runtime performance bottleneck of this routine in HiRep software application for CPU-based distributed-memory hardware platforms. To this end, both algorithmic and hardware-dependent optimization strategies are employed. These strategies include efficient hybrid parallelization (using both MPI and Open MP parallel programming frameworks), optimizing OpenMP parallelism through loop collapsing, memory access patterns optimization, and vectorization (using both AVX2 and Clang compiler’s vector intrinsics). Based on experimental results obtained from two distinct High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms, the proposed optimizations boost the performance of HiRep, achieving an overall speedup of up to ×1.80 compared to the baseline MPI version
Results of One-Year Observation of a Jamming Interferer Degrading Amplitude Scintillation Indices in GISTM Receiver
The analysis of transionospheric Radio Frequency (RF) signals, such as those transmitted by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), is a well-established technique to monitor ionospheric irregularities and ionospheric scintillations. Unfortunately, these signals are susceptible to RF interferences (RFI), and misleading ionospheric scintillation indices may be estimated due to intentional and unintentional disturbances. This paper presents the results of an intensive, on-field campaign of observation and recording of GNSS signals in the Mediterranean Area. One year of continuous monitoring allowed for the characterization of an actual RFI centered on the L1/E1 GNSS band. The results demonstrated that high-intensity occurrences of such an RFI invalidated the ionospheric scintillation indices calculated by a GISTM (GNSS Ionospheric Scintillation and TEC Monitoring) receiver installed at the atmospheric observatory in Lampedusa (Italy). According to the RFI features, the study discusses its nature by hypothesizing a Frequency-Hopping (FH) or Multiple Frequency Shift Keying (MFSK) modulated signal that may act as a complex jamming interference with randomized, short subtones. Therefore, a model of the detected interference is presented to support further works on detection and mitigation techniques as well as a deeper understanding of its effect against GNSS receivers to a large extent
Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery (PICA) Reanastomosis After Excision of a Ruptured p2-PICA Aneurysm: 2-Dimensional Operative Video.
Posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) aneurysms have an increased tendency towards a fusiform morphology precluding primary clip reconstruction. The management of these complex aneurysms might require cerebral revascularization to preserve flow in a distal PICA territory. This video illustrates a case of a ruptured p2-PICA aneurysm excision followed by a PICA reanastomosis. A 54-yr-old male presented with a sudden-onset severe headache, diplopia, and complete left cranial nerve six (CN VI) palsy. Neuroimaging demonstrated diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage in basal cisterns. A catheter angiogram shows a ruptured small fusiform aneurysm in the p2-PICA segment. After obtaining consent for surgery, the patient was placed in a three-quarter prone position. After a hockey stick skin incision and C1 laminectomy, a lateral suboccipital craniotomy was performed. The aneurysm was identified within the vagoaccessory triangle. Cerebral protection consisted of propofol-induced electroencephalography burst suppression during the clamp time for the bypass, without hypothermia or hypertension. After trapping the aneurysm and excising the diseased arterial segment, the distal end of the p2-PICA was reanastomosed to the proximal parent vessel in an end-to-end fashion. Indocyanine green angiography confirmed patency of the anastomosis. Postoperatively, the patient was neurologically at his baseline. The CN VI palsy had completely resolved at a follow-up visit. Reanastomosis is an effective modality for reconstructing PICA following the excision of the fusiform aneurysm. The redundancy of the tonsillomedullary segment of PICA allows for easier distal segment reapproximation in the inferior hypoglossal triangle. An intracranial-intracranial revascularization technique eliminates the need for harvesting the occipital artery. Additionally, it prevents iatrogenic ischemic injury to contralateral PICA, if used for a PICA-PICA bypass.1 © Barrow Neurological Institute, used with permission
“Dialogue between Translators and Authors. The Example of Claudio Magris”
The paper focuses on the forms of cooperation between authors and their translator(s) in all cases in which the two operate simultaneously. This issue is explored on the example of the Trieste-born author Claudio Magris, who cultivates a very close relationship with most of his translators.
Writing and translation have been coexisting in this author throughout his career and have resulted in the heightened sensitivity of Magris the author with regards to translation, as the first part of the analysis shows. The second part describes the dialogue between Magris and the translators of his works, and ends with the more general question of the significance and role of such a form of exchange
Consideraciones sobre la poética de Claudio Rodríguez
The purpose of this paper is to study the poetics of Claudio Rodríguez, delimiting its components and trying to clarify them and to present them as a whole. The author left some pages written on his conception of poetry that encourage reflection and, in some cases, interpretation. So with his conception of poetry as a gift and inebriation, as an alliance and condemnation or celebration (giving title to his collections of poems), or with notions such as «participation», «living contemplation», «living expression » or «personal rhythm» that make up his way of understanding the poetic process.

Desert flower premium oasis water of Pica
The order of the chiral transition in N_f=2 QCD
A strategy is developed to investigate the order of the transition using
finite size scaling and its relation to color confinement. An in-depth
numerical investigation has been performed with KS fermions on lattices with
N_t=4 and N_s=12,16,20,24,32 and quark masses am_q ranging from 0.01335 to
0.35. The specific heat and a number of susceptibilities have been measured and
compared with the expectation of an O(4) second order and a first order phase
transition. A second order O(4) is excluded, whilst data are consistent with a
first order
