Apprendre l'orthographe
Rogis Radebaugh Muriel, Distefano Philipp P., Hagerty Patricia J., Mousseau Jacques, Richaudeau Elina. Constraining the spin-down timescale of the white-dwarf progenitors of Type Ia supernovae
Justham (2011) and DiStefano et al.\ (2011) proposed that the white-dwarf progenitor of a Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) may have to spin down before it can explode. As the white dwarf spin-down timescale is not well known theoretically, we here try to constrain it empirically (within the framework of this spin-down model) for progenitor systems that contain a giant donor and for which circumbinary material has been detected after the explosion: we obtain an upper limit of a few . Based on the study of Di Stefano and Kilic (2012) this means that it is too early to rule out the existence of a surviving companion in SNR 0509-67.5
Trim17, novel E3 ubiquitin-ligase, initiates neuronal apoptosis
Accumulating data indicate that the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls apoptosis by regulating the level and the function of key regulatory proteins. In this study, we identified Trim17, a member of the TRIM/RBCC protein family, as one of the critical E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in the control of neuronal apoptosis upstream of mitochondria. We show that expression of Trim17 is increased both at the mRNA and protein level in several in vitro models of transcription-dependent neuronal apoptosis. Expression of Trim17 is controlled by the PI3K/Akt/GSK3 pathway in cerebellar granule neurons (CGN). Moreover, the Trim17 protein is expressed in vivo, in apoptotic neurons that naturally die during post-natal cerebellar development. Overexpression of active Trim17 in primary CGN was sufficient to induce the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis in survival conditions. This pro-apoptotic effect was abolished in Bax(-/-) neurons and depended on the E3 activity of Trim17 conferred by its RING domain. Furthermore, knock-down of endogenous Trim17 and overexpression of dominant-negative mutants of Trim17 blocked trophic factor withdrawal-induced apoptosis both in CGN and in sympathetic neurons. Collectively, our data are the first to assign a cellular function to Trim17 by showing that its E3 activity is both necessary and sufficient for the initiation of neuronal apoptosis. Firm Culture and Leadership as Firm Performance Predictors: a Resource-Based Perspective
In this study, we tested part of the resource-based view of the firm by examining two 'soft' resources, firm culture and top leadership, as predictors of 'hard' or bottom-line firm performance.Transformational top leadership was found to predict firm performance directly while the link between firm culture and firm performance was indirect: via transformational top leadership.Firm culture was operationalized as the employees' views about the degree of optimization of four organizational practices (job autonomy, external orientational, interdepartmental orientation, and human resource orientation). We conclude that, rather than strong cultures, firms need best organizational practices and transformational leadership.Organizational culture;Leadership firm performance;Resource-based theory of the firm

Quantitative studies of nucleic acids in the cell with microspectrophotometer. II. Nucleic acid and hemoglobin contents in erythroid cells of frog and hen
Using the erythroid cells of Rana nigromaculata the hemoglobin synthesis has been studied in the relation of DNA and RNA contents. Results showed that the hemoglobin synthesis starts in the early stage of erythroblast but becomes marked just before the complete maturation. RNA
contents drops markedly in the later stage of maturation. Measurement of DNA contents by Feulgen reaction suggested the termination of the mitosis just before the prematuration. From these results the author concludes that the RNA which will act as the template for the globin synthesis, develops from the early stage of erythroblast but the templation is accelerated in the terminal stage of maturation and the marked acceleration in hemoglobin synthesis in this stage.</p

Measurement of the atmospheric νμ energy spectrum from 100 GeV to 200 TeV with the ANTARES telescope
Atmospheric neutrinos are produced during cascades initiated by the interaction of primary cosmic rays with air nuclei. In this paper, a measurement of the atmospheric νμ + ν̄μ energy spectrum in the energy range 0.1-200 TeV is presented, using data collected by the ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope from 2008 to 2011. Overall, the measured flux is ~25 % higher than predicted by the conventional neutrino flux, and compatible with the measurements reported in ice. The flux is compatible with a single power-law dependence with spectral index γmeas=3.58±0.12. With the present statistics the contribution of prompt neutrinos cannot be established. © 2013 The Author(s)
