Exposing colour: Newton's theory through Maxwell's lens
No full textThis paper provides an overview of Maxwell’s achievements in the theory of colour. As a matter of fact, Maxwell created inter alia the foundation for quantitative colour measure and for practical colour photography. From his first attempt of colour diagram has evolved the CIE, Commission International d’Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination), model, first published in 1931, which is the most popular system of colour representation in use today and considered the basis of modern colorimetry. Newton’s theory of colour represents a fundamental starting point for Maxwell’s research in the field. In this paper Newton’s influence on Maxwell’s work on colour will be discussed, underlying the aspects that Maxwell accepted and those he refined of Newton’s theory of colour in order to better understand the evolution of his theory. He clarified the difference between optical and pigment mixture of colours and eliminated the arbitrary choice of the number of primary colours. Finally, a brief overview will be provided of Maxwell’s colour mixing experiments, the famous colour top and colour box, that allowed him to determine quantitative expression of colour mixing in form of colorimetric equations

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, ein Betriebsgerät zu entwickeln, das unterschiedlich große Xenon-Excimer Strahler effizient betreibt und eigenständig auf diese adaptiert. Um diese Arbeit auch mit Simulationswerkzeugen zu unterstützen, wurde ein neuartiges elektrisches Simulationsmodell entwickelt, das nicht nur für Sinusanregung sondern auch für Pulsanregung geeignet ist
De la sculpture à la vêture : pour une compréhension élargie de l’ornement de l’architecture au cours de la première modernité (Pays-Bas, XVIIe siècle)
No full textVéritable liant entre les médiums artistiques, mais aussi entre ces médiums et le spectateur, la notion d’ornement permet de revisiter notre conception traditionnelle des rapports entre architecture et décor au cours de la première modernité. Parce qu’il se considère comme un embellissement que l’on ajoute à une surface ou un espace, l’ornement a toujours été au centre de violentes controverses quant à son utilité et sa légitimité dans l’architecture. Si le XIXe siècle, avec sa propension à séparer et hiérarchiser les arts, a contribué à considérer l’ornement comme un champ secondaire et distinct de l’architecture, il convient de reconsidérer la notion au regard de la littérature artistique de l’époque, en attribuant une valeur positive à l’ajout et en le resituant au sein de logiques de surenchère. Cette étude se propose d’étudier cette problématique à travers quelques études de cas puisées dans l’architecture des anciens Pays-Bas méridionaux. Ces régions voient se développer un art baroque souvent jugé comme « ornemental », se démarquant par l’amplification du décor sculpté, l’adoucissement de la tectonique classique et l’interprétation libre et naturaliste des motifs architectoniques. Une étude des rapports entre l’architecture et son décor, mise en regard avec des sources écrites contemporaines, permettra d’éclairer les pratiques qui régissent la conception du décor architectural mais aussi les codes qui en déterminent la réception, et ainsi de reconsidérer les rapports entre architecture, ornement, sculpture et peinture au cours de la période
