    No full text

    No full text

Three-dimensional assessment of teeth first-, second- and third-order position in Caucasian and African subjects with ideal occlusion

Background: The aim of this study was to provide an updated version of Andrews’ seminal study by exploiting 3D software to analyse the tip, torque and in-out values of two groups of different racial and ethnic background. Methods: The analysis was conducted on one Caucasian group (30 individuals) and one of African origin (29). All subjects were adult, in normal occlusion and had no previous history of orthodontic treatment. RhinocerosTM 3D modelling software was used to identify anatomical reference points, planes and axes and to make the appropriate measurements. Results: Compared to Andrews’ measurements, we found more positive coronal tip values in both African and Caucasian subjects, while the torque values we measured tended to be less negative in the posterior sectors than those reported by Andrews. We measured greater tip values in the lower jaw of Caucasian with respect to African subjects, particularly in the middle sectors. Conclusions: Race and ethnicity have a strong influence on values of tip, torque and in-out. This is translated as a more positive tip in Caucasian subjects and a more positive torque in those of African descent (greater proclination of the incisors). Finally, with respect to the values reported by Andrews, we found a tendency to more positive mean tip (except for at the upper second molars and lower incisors) and less negative torque in the posterior sectors

Use of Wireless Ultrasound Probe in Isolated Infants: A Case Report of Two SARS-CoV-2-Positive Mothers’ Newborns

The COVID-19 pandemic has upset habits in any workplace. In hospitals, several precautions have been taken to maintain health-care workers' safety and to avoid disease spread or the possible creation of new epidemic outbreaks. The use of medical devices makes the contamination and the nosocomial virus spread possible, causing infection in medical operators and hospitalized patients. In the neonatal intensive care unit, ultrasound has been an increasingly used tool because it is a non-invasive, repeatable method and it is side effect-free as the newborn is not exposed to radiation. It makes a fast diagnosis and then therapy possible such as in the lung diseases and other life-threatening conditions. The use of portable devices such as the wireless probe has many advantages in routine clinical practice, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has proved to be fundamental for the patient and the physician's safety because it reduced the risk of contamination. We report the use of the wireless ultrasound probe in 2 isolated neonates born to SARS-CoV-2-positive mothers

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

The Utility and Safety of a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) in Asphyxiated Neonates during Therapeutic Hypothermia

Background: The present study was designed to assess the feasibility and reliability of a Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) in a population of asphyxiated neonates during therapeutic hypothermia. Methods: This non-randomized feasibility study was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) facilities of Fondazione Policlinico A. Gemelli IRCSS. Infants matching the criteria for hypothermic treatment were included in this study and were connected to the CGMS (Medtronic, Northridge, CA, USA) within the first 12 h of life. Hypoglycemia was defined as a glucose value <= 47 mg/dL, and hyperglycemia was defined as a glucose value >= 180 mg/dL. Data obtained via the CGMS were compared with those obtained via a point-of-care blood glucometer (GTX). Results: The two measuring techniques were compared using the Modified Clarke Error Grid (MCEG). Sixteen infants were enrolled. The sensor had an average (standard deviation) duration of 93 (38) h. We collected 119 pairs of glycemia values (CGMVs) from the CGMS vs. GTX measurements. The CGMS detected twenty-five episodes of hypoglycemia and three episodes of hyperglycemia. All the CGMVs indicating hyperglycemia matched with the blood sample taken via the point-of-care glucometer. Conclusions: The use of a CGMS would be useful as it could detect more episodes of disglycemia than standard care. Our data show poor results in terms of the accuracy of the CGMS in this particular setting

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
