Fil: Bocco, Maria Ines. Influence of metalworking defect in knee cruciate ligament screws as a possible origin of infections
A mucormycosis outbreak in a a clinic of Paraná city after Arthroscopic knee anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction forced to suspend these interventions. The the main candidates as the infection source were the implanted screws. These screws were metallurgically analyzed. Microscopic defects like burrs and bending`s were found within the screw´s allen heads. According to Spector et al. (2013) these defects protect microorganisms and make difficult to eliminate them. The aim of this work was to demonstrate the implication of metal working defects in the titanium fixing screws as a reservoir of contaminated machining oil which could be the possible transmitting vehicle in the outbreak of bone mucormycosis. The genetic relatedness of the isolated strains was established demonstrating that the screws were the infection sources.Fil: Spector, Mario. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. Bacterial Migration Cell
Infected prostheses are usually removed from patients when this infection is difficult or impossible to treat. In this context, an unprecedented physical phenomenon, “bacterial cell migration”, by which bacteria from an infected plate is migrated to a clean one has been observed and studied at the UTN FRP Materials Laboratory. This transference is obtained when two facing plates with definite chemical and metallurgic properties, one colonized with a microorganism and the other sterile, are faced to each other in an electrically conductive liquid. For the purposes of the present study, two different cultures have been used: yeast and Staphylococcus aureus, which is one of the bacterium that causes most hospital infections. It is expected that with the implementation of this method, infected prostheses in patients can be completely cleaned in the near future.Fil: Spector, Mario. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. Controlled synthesis and characterization of latex-protein complexes for the detection of acute toxoplasmosis by immunoagglutination assays
Fil: Peretti, Leandro Ezequiel.
Toxoplasmosis is a worldwide disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which acquired during gestation can cause abortion, malformations, macro or microcephaly and eye damage. Precise diagnosis and quick treatment are the best way to prevent transplacental transmission and reduce morbidity and mortality.
Diagnosis of Toxoplasmosis is mainly based on serological tests, which involves searching for specific antibodies (Ab). One way to detect specific Ab in serum is by the latex agglutination test (LAT), which employs latex particles as support of biomolecules, in order to amplify the antigen-antibody (Ag-Ab) reaction. In the immunoagglutination assays (IA), latex-protein complexes (LPC) are recognized by specific Ab present in the sera of infected patients, thus producing immunoagglutination. LAT is a fast and cheap detection method, which results particularly useful for screening purposes.
The goal of this Thesis was to obtain LPC useful as LAT for detecting recently acquired Toxoplasmosis. The experimental work was divided into four stages: I) controlled synthesis, cleaning and characterization of functionalized latexes; II) production and quantification of antigenic proteins of T. gondii; III) synthesis of the LPC by physical adsorption or covalent coupling; and IV) application of the LPC in IA.
It was possible to obtain latex particles coated with T. gondii antigens which were evaluated on IA assays against a panel of sera. Under the tested experimental conditions, the LPC were suitable as LAT reagents for detecting the acute phase of Toxoplasmosis, although they should be evaluated against a larger panel of sera to confirm the obtained results.Universidad Nacional del LitoralConsejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnica

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
