Impact Evaluation Report: Nepal - Pavitra Vegetable Seed Cooperative Project
Get PDFThis impact evaluation analyses the findings and lessons emerging from the Oxfam Enterprise Development Programme’s (EDP) work with Pavitra enterprise in Nepal.
EDP is designed to improve the livelihoods of smallholder producers and promote positive gender outcomes, by supporting the development of viable commercial enterprises, typically owned and run by the smallholder farmers themselves. In 2010, EDP started supporting one such enterprise in Nepal - the Pavitra cooperative – with a package of loans, grants, training and business mentoring.
This evaluation is based on the collection of common baseline and follow-up data on a random sample of 132 members of the Pavitra cooperative and 185 members of comparison cooperatives. A statistical method, combining propensity-score matching (PSM) with double difference was used to estimate EDP’s impact on the livelihoods of the project’s direct beneficiaries.
Notwithstanding the caveats, the evidence available on both intermediate and final outcomes yields a set of interesting results. The study shows a positive impact on a range of indicators of women’s empowerment, such as their economic roles at home, their ability to influence affairs in their community and the cooperative, and their level of self-efficacy. While there are positive outcomes for the livelihoods of Pavitra members, the evaluation indicates that more needs to be done to see significant improvements in indicators of material wealth and material well-being. </p

Synthetic version of anonymized Norway Registry data containing prescriptions and hospitalization of the patients
No full textThis dataset represents synthetic data derived from anonymized Norwegian Registry Data of pa aged 65 and above from 2011 to 2013. It includes the Norwegian Patient Registry (NPR), which contains hospitalization details, and the Norwegian Prescription Database (NorPD), which contains prescription details. The NPR and NorPD datasets are combined into a single CSV file. This real dataset was part of a project to study medication use in the elderly and its association with hospitalization. The project has ethical approval from the Regional Committees for Medical and Health Research Ethics in Norway (REK-Nord number: 2014/2182). The dataset was anonymized to ensure that the synthetic version could not reasonably be identical to any real-life individuals. The anonymization process was done as follows: first, only relevant information was kept from the original data set. Second, individuals' birth year and gender were replaced with randomly generated values within a plausible range of values. And last, all dates were replaced with randomly generated dates. This dataset was sufficiently scrambled to generate a synthetic dataset and was only used for the current study. The dataset has details related to Patient, Prescriber, Hospitalization, Diagnosis, Location, Medications, Prescriptions, and Prescriptions dispatched. A publication using this data to create a machine learning model for predicting hospitalization risk is under review
Technology and leadership styles: a review of trends between 2003 and 2021
No full textPurpose: Leadership style denotes the behavioural pattern of a leader, which bears on employee's attitude, perception about organization, manager and job satisfaction. The existence of different styles has presented leadership from diverse perspectives related to individuals' personality and behaviour. The main objective of this article is to explore the association between leadership styles and technology, major themes in this area and what can be the future research directions of this work. Design/methodology/approach: Leadership style denotes the behavioural pattern of leader, which bears on employee's attitude, perception about organization, manager and job satisfaction. The existence of different styles has presented leadership from diverse perspectives related to individuals' personality and behaviour. The present article aims to review significant work by eminent researchers towards technology and leadership styles in the form trends, annual scientific production; popular affiliations and sources, a three-field plot of countries, scholars and themes, most cited references, trending keywords, thematic analysis of leadership styles and technology research by taking insights from situational leadership theory. Findings: The findings indicate connections between various keywords and provide interesting themes like transformational leadership style is connected to knowledge management, transactional leadership, empowering leadership, psychological capital and e-leadership. Similarly, leadership is connected to leadership development, gender stereotypes, emotional exhaustion, innovative leadership and organizational performance. Originality/value: This review analysis of leadership styles and technology is in itself a novice contribution and first of its nature. The identified themes are presenting good knowledge and food for thought for future researches. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
