The Ruthenian Language in Serbia from the Perspective of Endangerment
The paper explores the endangerment of the Ruthenian language in Serbia
through a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses of
data obtained from a sociolinguistic questionnaire (VLingS Questionnaire 1.0; Mirić et al.
2025) completed by 78 members of the Ruthenian community. The field research was
conducted in 2023 as part of the project “Vulnerable Languages and Linguistic Varieties in
Serbia” (VLingS), funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia within the program
IDEAS (2022–2024). The study presents findings from the quantitative analysis of
responses related to the educational background of speakers (V_2, V_5), their emotional
and attitudinal relationship to the Ruthenian language (XII_4, XII_5), and perspectives
on language maintenance and revitalization (XIV_4, XIV_6, XIV_7). It further examines
patterns of language use across different social domains (III_1_1–III_1_6) and the
intergenerational transmission of the language (II_5, II_6, II_7). Notable discrepancies
emerged between the respondents’ declared attitudes and reported language practices,
as well as between their stated values and actual engagement in preservation efforts. To
address these inconsistencies, the paper includes a qualitative analysis of open-ended responses
concerning language maintenance (XIV_5 and XIV_9), offering interpretative
insights into the underlying sociolinguistic dynamics. The findings contribute to a deeper
understanding of the complex factors affecting the sustainability of minority languages in
multilingual setting
The stereotype of a woman in linguistic image of the world in Slovaks and Serbs
The primary issue of our concern in this research is what the role and status of a woman in Slovak and Serbian societies is and how a woman is described in Slovak and Serbian culture. Our research is linguistic, which means that we wanted to find out how a woman is thought about by means of the way a woman is spoken about in the Slovak and Serbian languages. This formulation of the issue thematically categorises our research in the domain of gender linguistics, but in order to provide the answer we used the methodology of cognitive linguistics, which does not treat the language separately, but within general noetic (cognitive) capacity and processes – the process of conceptualisation and the process of categorisation, hence by investigating linguistic image of the world, we can reach mental presentations created by individual and collective sensual, emotional and cognitive experience of non-linguistic reality..

Femininity in Slovak and Serbian linguistic image of the world
The paper presents cognitive confrontational analysis of the concept of femininity in modern Slovak and Serbian languages. Through the research of femininity we wanted to provide answer to the question what woman is like in Slovak and Serbian linguistic culture, and indirectly to the questions who a woman is and what a woman does in the context of verbalisation of gender stereotypes. Since femininity is a complex concept, we determined what elements it included in both investigated cultures by using the confrontational analysis, and which of those elements in the selected material stood out as central. The analysis was conducted by utilising the material taken from dictionaries, phraseology and paremiology, as well as the examples from electronic corpus in contemporary Slovak and Serbian languages and the results of free association test
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
