The evolution after the Hindu Code Bill, women's property ownership in India has improved. Women's position in old custom and their evolution in modern law from the colonial period to the Hindu Code Bill are the study's main focus areas. In ancient legal codes, such as Dharmashastras, Manusmriti, and Arthashastra, women were denied property rights and she always is dependent on their father, husband, or son. As per our constitution, every human being has the right to equitable treatment. Equal property rights for men and women are important for reducing the gender gap, to empower women in order to promote social and economic development and to ensure gender and social justice within the framework of Personal Laws and inform women about the areas of legislation that are most likely to affect and enhance their lives. So the focus of the article is on women's inheritance rights in old Indian laws and their development in modern laws with help of international conventions. As the status of women in India improves economically and socially, there is a need for more development and a single or uniform property rights for every sect of Indian females

Transformational HR for Generation Z : gig economy efficiency and adaptability

No full text
The contemporary workforce is being radically transformed by the emergence of Generation Z and the explosive growth of the gig economy. Gen Z differs from other generations in valuing flexibility, autonomy, and purposeful work more than the long term employment model. Their technological literacy has redefined work standards, with freelancing, temporary contracts, and remote work becoming the new norm. While this trend is beneficial in the sense that it provides work-life balance and diversified sources of income, it has challenges in employment security, mental well-being, and career advancement. HR practitioners need to shift by embracing innovation, technology, and flexibility. The old model of employment does not suit Gen Z's needs anymore, calling for dynamic practices such as on-demand learning, customized benefits, and AI-enabled talent management. Yet, aligning digital evolution with a people-centric strategy continues to be the key

Arterial Ammonia Independently Predicts Outcome in Acute on Chronic Liver Failure

No full text
Background and Aim: Elevated ammonia correlates with outcome and complications in acute liver failure. However, role of arterial ammonia in predicting outcome of acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) is unclear. We evaluated the association of arterial ammonia with complications and outcome in ACLF. Methods: Consecutive ACLF patients admitted between January 2012 and December 2015 were prospectively evaluated. Baseline arterial ammonia was estimated in all; and, in a subset of 86 patients, serial ammonia estimation was done daily for 5 consecutive days. Cox-proportional hazard analysis was used to assess predictors of outcome. Results: 291 ACLF patients were included, 223 (76.6%) males; median age (IQR) 43 (33–51) years. Commonest precipitating insult was alcohol 108 (37.1%). In-hospital mortality was 59.1% (173/291). Ammonia level ≥88.5 μmol/L at admission predicted mortality-sensitivity (63.6%), specificity (61.0%), negative predictive value (53.3%), positive predictive value (70.5%), and diagnostic accuracy (62.5%). Median ammonia level among survivors was significantly lower than in non-survivors (79 μmol/L versus 97 μmol/L; P < 0.001). Those with arterial ammonia ≥88.5 μmol/L had significantly higher mortality (110/156–70.5% versus 64/135–46.7%, P < 0.001) and encephalopathy (early encephalopathy 76–48.7% versus 40–29.6% and advanced encephalopathy 38–24.4% versus 22–16.3%, P < 0.001). Kidney and respiratory failures at admission and complications during follow-up were more frequent in patients with elevated ammonia. On multivariate Cox-proportional hazard analysis, ammonia independently predicted outcome(HR 1.010; 95%CI, 1.006–1.015, P < 0.001). Serial ammonia estimation revealed that persistently high ammonia value ≥88.5 μmol/L was associated with worsening of encephalopathy and mortality. Conclusion: Baseline arterial ammonia levels independently predict outcome in ACLF. Progressive decline of ammonia is associated with better outcome

Accessibility of the Public Transport in Helsinki Metropolitan Area

No full text
The aim of this Bachelor's thesis was to find out, test and analyze the level of accessibility in the public transport in metropolitan Helsinki. The accessibility and signalization of the transport platforms and stations were also taken in consideration and tested. The public transport routes used for this study were chosen to go to or from some of the most popular tourist attractions in metropolitan Helsinki. The airport train and the train station at the airport were also tested since they are important to travelers and tourists alike, and also very recently built. The testing routes in general were chosen to suit the tourism perspective of the author’s studies and the city of Helsinki in particular was chosen because it is one of most popular cities for domestic and international tourists to visit in Finland. Marketing organizations Visit Finland and Visit Helsinki can benefit from the results. This Bachelor thesis offers the new point of view of user testing to the subject. The primary sources for this study were Invalidiliitto (The Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities), association that functions within the community in such a way as to enable everyday life to be independent and fulfilling for people with physical disabilities (Invalidiliitto 2016) and the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT), a non-profit information bank on the matters of accessible tourism in Europe (ENAT 2016) According to the results low-floored public transport vehicles are accessible also for customer travelling alone. Vehicles with stairs are accessible when travelling with a helper. Accessibility of public transport stops and stations varies. Biggest challenge is the level difference and large gap between the vehicle and the station. However, Helsinki can be called reasonably accessible travel destination. Other recent studies made on the subject of accessibility are Bachelor’s theses such as: Accessible Tourism : A Study of accessibility in Hotel Chains, Public Transport and Ferry Companies in Helsinki (Khatri, Kumar; Shrestha, Rajkumar; Mahat, Ujjwal, 2012), Istanbul Inspirations - Case: A Study on the Accessibility of Historical Attractions (Heiskanen, 2014) and The Accessibility of Cultural Attractions for All Senses in Kerava (Toivanen, Laine, 2015) The research was conducted by qualitative approach means and the main research methods were semi-structured interviews, observation and documentation by camera and the use of test persons. Live testing with test people, were conducted on two separate days. Qualitative research was chosen because of the humane nature of this subject. It was also decided that qualitative method would be more fitting to find possible improvement points. Photography was used to document the testing and all photographs in this Bachelor’s thesis have been taken by the author. The study was mainly conducted between March and May 2016 even though the preparations were begun earlier. Keywords: Accessibility, Helsinki, Urban tourism, Public transport, Test userTämän opinnäytetyön tavoite oli arvioida ja analysoida julkisten liikennevälineiden, pysäkkien ja asemien esteettömyyttä testikäyttäjän avulla Helsingin keskustassa. Kaikki tämän opinnäytetyön valokuvat on ottanut kirjoittaja itse. Esteettömästä matkailusta tehtyjä opinnäytetöitä ovat esimerkiksi Accessible Tourism: A Study of accessibility in Hotel Chains, Public Transport and Ferry Companies in Helsinki (Khatri, Kumar; Shrestha, Rajkumar; Mahat, Ujjwal, 2012) ja Istanbul Inspirations - Case: A Study on the Accessibility of Historical Attractions (Heiskanen, 2014) sekä The Accessibility of Cultural Attractions for All Senses in Kerava (Toivanen ja Laine, 2015).
