Considerazioni attorno ad una questione metricologica : Il Boccaccio e le origini dell'ottava rima
In this article the Author offers a critical review of the mejor works of investigation on the issue of the creation and establishing of a specific poetic metre, the ottava rima and on the role played by Giovanni Boccaccio in such an issue. The Author argues that besides all the efforts to establish an origin for such a metre afore Boccaccio's poems, the results have been inconclusive; whereas Boccaccio's preminance in the establishing of the use of such a metre in Tuscany seems to grow in evidence slowly bur surely so that he should still be considered, de facto, if not the inventor, at least the designer of the original ottava
Movements observation therapy effect for balance and gait of older people.
Aim: To determine the effect of movements observation and repetition on the walking and balance of the elderly. Problem: Disorders of walking and balance increase due to the age (Harvey et al., 2015). One of the methods for improving the motor function of older people is action observation therapy used in neurorehabilitation (Buccino, 2014), however the effects on healthy elderly ar not clear (Patel, 2017). Methods: The study included 20 subjects aged 60-80 years. They were randomly assigned to control (usual physiotherapy plus nature recordings observation) and intervention (usual physiotherapy plus action recordings observation) groups. The interventions consisted of a 60-min program five times a week, for 8 weeks. The subjects were tested twice before and after interventions. Methods used in the research: Fullerton Advanced Scale, Dynamic Gait Index, 10 Meter Walk test, „Up & Go“ test and Desmond Fall Risk Questionnaire. Question of research: What is the effect of movements observation therapy for balance and gait of the older persons? Hypothesis: Based to previous data of the research (Tia et al., 2010; Buccino, 2014; Patel, 2017; Gatti et al., 2019; Agosta et al., 2017; Ruffieux et al., 2018), that action observation therapy can improve motor movements for neurological patiensts, we believe that action observation therapy will imporove the walking and balance of older people. Results: Action observation therapy statistically significant improved gait (p<0,05) compared to normal physical therapy. No statistically significant differences were found between the participants balance and fall risk of exploratory group compared to the control group. Conclusions: Action observation therapy is more efficient educating gait of older people than conventional physical therapy, but for balance and risk of falls has no effect
In this article, we show that the Cortes de Casto Amor (Toledo: Juan Ferrer, 1557), published under the name of Luis Hurtado de Toledo, include a prose version of some sections of Juan Boscán's Octava rima, a poem in which, as it is well known, fragments of Pietro Bembo's Stanze are translated and imitated. Apart from the task of transforming in prose some lines of the Octava rima, Luis Hurtado de Toledo in his Cortes modifies the ending of Boscan's poem and proposes an articulation of the conflict of love in the author-protagonist pointing to an intellectual love and, in the end, the love of God
Improving adherence with preoperative instructions: a quality improvement project
Purpose: Poor health literacy has been linked to increased costs, delays in care, and other adverse events, including increased rates of hospitalization. In the surgical setting, poor health literacy among patients can lead to inadequate understanding of preoperative instructions.
Methodology: This quality improvement project used an illustrated patient education booklet (PEB) to improve comprehension of preoperative instructions for patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Demographic information and preoperative instruction adherence rates were measured. Chart review data was collected 8 weeks prior to implementation of the illustrated PEB and for 8 weeks after implementation.
Results: Adherence to bowel preparation increased 66.7% and adherence to preoperative antibiotic instructions increased by 13%. Adherence to NPO status decreased by 13.3%. Adherence to pre-admission counseling and consumption of the pre-surgery drink remained 100% before and after implementation of the PEB. There was not a statistically significant difference in the score for adherence pre-implementation (M=60, SD=14.14) and adherence post-implementation (M=73.33, SD=23.09); t(6)=2.45, p=0.34. These results suggest that the implementation of the illustrated PEB did not influence the pre-operative adherence rates. The correlation between illustrated PEBs and preoperative instruction adherence is multifaceted, therefore, additional research is needed.
Implications for Practice: Although the results between the pre- and post-implementation periods were not statistically significant, there was still an upward trend in adherence to preoperative instructions. The use of illustrations can increase patients' understanding of health information and increase adherence to preoperative instructions. The illustrated PEB can be implemented as a standard of care. This will improve quality of care and patient safety. It has the potential to decrease healthcare costs for patients, hospitals, and the healthcare system.D.N.P.Includes bibliographical reference
Correlation of trace elements and metallothioneins in patients with glioblastoma
Author of master thesis: Gabrielė Janušauskaitė Master title: Correlation of trace elements and metallothioneins in patients with glioblastoma Supervisor: Rima Naginienė, PhD Consultant: Jurgita Šulinskienė, PhD Work was performed at: Laboratory of Toxicology, Neuroscience Institute, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Summary: Aim and objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between content of trace elements: zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), selenium (Se), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and content of metallothioneins (MT) in glioblastoma patients‘ whole blood, plasma and brain tumor tissue. To achieve this aim the tasks were set as follows: to determine the concentration of trace elements in human blood and plasma of glioblastoma patients‘ and control group, to assay the concentration of metallothioneins in case and control groups, to determine differences of the value of trace elements and MT in human blood and plasma before and after the surgery, to evaluate correlation between the content of trace elements and MT, to evaluate correlation between trace elements, MT, brain tumor disease, age, gender and survival of patients. Materials and methods: The research was conducted using whole blood, plasma and brain tumor tissue of patients‘ (n=47) with glioblastoma (grade IV, World Health Organization, confirmed pathologically) during 2015-2018 undergoing a surgical intervention at Department of Neurosurgery of Kaunas Clinics, Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Obtained results were compared to control group of patients (n=200) without any oncological diseases during 2018-2019 undergoing a surgical intervention and treatment at Department of Ophtalmology, Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. Trace elements and metallothioneins were determined in whole blood and plasma. Trace elements content was determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and MT content was assayed spectrophotometrically. Results: The concentration of Cu, Se and Cd in glioblastoma patients‘ whole blood and plasma was lower (p<0.05), whereas Pb and MT concentration in glioblastoma patients‘ whole blood was higher (p<0.05) than controls‘ group. The concentration of Pb, Cd and MT in blood (p<0.05) decreased after tumor removal, while concentration of Se (p<0.05) increased. Regression analysis showed that Cu content in glioblastoma patients‘ plasma was directly related to the concentration of MT in the blood (p<0.05). Value of Pb in control patients‘ whole blood was directly related to the concentration of Cd in whole blood (p<0.05). Content of Pb in blood was lower (p<0.05) in patients younger than 55 years compared to older ones. The concentration of Cd and Pb in glioblastoma men whole blood was found to be higher (p<0.05) than in women. Low whole blood level of selenium was associated with reduced survival. The Kaplan – Meier survival analysis has shown that higher concentration of MT in the whole blood may indicate shorter survival time of patients with glioblastoma. The author declare no any conflict of interests
