This article aiming at evaluating female characters in Suat Derviş’s novels, also identifies her position in the historical stages of female literature. From the beginning of the debate on the women and literature relationship in the 1920s to the 1970s in which female literature was constructed as a literature of their own, Suat Derviş continuously wrote novels, literary criticisms, newspaper writings and existed with her author identity. In general, most of the Suat Derviş’s novel characters are female characters whose gender and class positions are combined by Suat Derviş. These characters, in which gender and class positions are combined, are also settled in an historical period: the collapse of the Ottoman Empire which evolved into the modern Repyblic of Turkey radical social change and transformation process. When we closely look at the female characters in Suat Derviş’s novels, we face; weird women in her gothic novels, lonely and desperate women who are in the upper class of the disappearing Ottoman society, opportunistic women believing in that everything could bought and sold, and mothers who have lost their children. The most striking finding is that Suat Derviş working as an author and journalist gave almost no place to working women in her novels

Dolayısıyla bu yazıda öncelikle uzun yıllar gazetecilik yapan Suat Derviş’in gazeteci kimliği üzerinde durulacak, ardından Fosforlu Cevriye, yazarın yaptığı röportajlar çerçevesinde yorumlanacaktır.When interpreting the works of Suat Derviş, who has become one of the names that literature researchers have emphasized, in recent years, it is necessary to mention her journalist identity that shaped her view of life and her understanding of art and her articles in newspapers. Among these articles, especially the interviews she published in newspapers are important. It is possible to say that Suat Derviş, as a journalist, carried the events she saw, the people she met, to her interviews, and therefore she used these interviews many times in her fictional works, both when creating the characters and shaping the event. Through these interviews, which shaped both her journalist identity and her artistic imagination, the author, who went down to the back streets of İstanbul, used the experiences she gained through these interviews as material in her works. In this context, the novel Fosforlu Cevriye, which was first serialized in the newspaper Gece Postası in 1945, is also a novel written based on Suat Derviş’s interviews. Therefore, this article will primarily focus on the journalist identity of Suat Derviş, who has been a journalist for many years, and then Fosforlu Cevriye will be interpreted within the framework of the author’s interviews.</p

This study aims to analyze Suat Derviş, who existed as both a literary writer and a journalist for nearly half a century of her life, from her early youth until her death, but who was ignored despite her huge oeuvre and who was thought to have been underappreciated during her lifetime, from the perspective of sociology of literature. In order to understand the reasons why the author, who dealt with personal issues until the end of the 1930s, turned towards society after this period, the impact of both her life and her journalist identity on her works was tried to be understood. For this purpose, the introduction provides a general information about the field of sociology of literature and clarifies the field of study. In the first part, Suat Derviş's life, art and works are discussed; in the second part, the course of development of the Turkish novel and the Socialist Realist approach are discussed; and in the third part, Suat Derviş's interviews conducted in the newspapers Son Posta, Cumhuriyet and Tan between 1935 and 1937 as a journalist, some of her stories written in the same period and published in various newspapers, and her novels Bu Olan Şeylerin Romanıdır, İstanbul'un Bir Gecesi, Fosforlu Cevriye and Ankara Mahpusu, in which socialist elements are dominant, are analyzed

Bu anlamda, Suat Derviş'in toplum ile münasebetini anlamak ve ortaya çıkan tablonun yazarın kişiliği, kadınlığı ve yazarlığı hakkında ne anlattığını görebilmek için konu hakkında tipik örnekler veren metinlerine odaklanmak gerekirThere are quite a lot of forgotten women in the history of our literature. Suat Derviş, who lived between 1903-1972 and wrote more than thirty novels published serially in various newspapers and magazines, is one of those women. Derviş, whose name was not even known by most of the readers until the 1990s, came to the fore after Oglak and Ithaki Publishing House republished her books. For the readers who were familiar with her, Suat Derviş was famous for Cevriye of Fosforlu Cevriye or Zeynep of Ankara Mahpusu. In fact, Suat Derviş was a woman who took part in publishing business since the 1920's and produced very valuable works. Moreover, Derviş did not only write works reflecting her political views, but also focused on a wide variety of themes ranging from gothic storylines to heartaches. In this sense, there were decent girls, upper-class people and betrayed women, as well as the 'prostitutes', low-class people and betraying women in her books. Such prominent figures in the works of the author showed her opinion about what 'being a woman in a patriarchal society' meant and turned into a material questioning the sense of morality of the society. This questioning is not only made over women. Both male and female characters of Derviş's novels grow and shape in an era and society. In this sense, her texts giving typical examples about the topic should be focused in order to understand Derviş's relationship with the society and to see the general picture of the author's personality, femininity and authorship

Pat, Zerrin (Bilecik, Author)The microstructural, surface, optical and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic study of the all-solid-state thin film battery cell were done. Obtained results show that all deposited layers are in polycrystalline form. The crystallite sizes of the layers were calculated by Scherrer equation and its values were found in the range of approximately 10-30 nm. This shows that deposited layers are homogeneous. The fabricated battery is a semitransparent in visible region. According to reflectance graphs, total reflectance of the semitransparent all-solid-state is lower than the value of the un-coated glass substrate reflectance value. The capacity of the manufactured battery cell is approximately 8.3 mu Ah/cm(2). The highly reversibility of charging and discharging of the battery was obtained even after 100 cycles. Ultrahigh coulombic efficiency was obtained approximately 100%. It is concluded that the fabricated battery is proper for the optic and photovoltaic applications and also this battery is proper for the high power applications.Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) - 115E33

Narrow-band n-gan/n-si isotype heterojunction photodiode: A simplified approach for photodiode development

    No full text
An innovative approach has been explored to fabricate a high-performance photodiode in semiconductor device production, utilizing the thermal evaporation technique to grow GaN thin films. Structural analyzes were conducted on both as-deposited and annealed samples, and their properties were determined using various characterization techniques, including FESEM, XRD, XPS, Hall effect, photoluminescence, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer measurements. Valuable information has been gained about the potential of this alternative approach for fabricating GaN-based electronic devices. In this study, Al/n+-GaN/n-Si/Ag (as-deposited GaN) and Al/n-GaN/n-Si/Ag (annealed GaN) structures have been fabricated. It was found that the device produced from the as-deposited GaN thin film exhibited better performance than the annealed one. The isotype heterojunction n+-GaN/n-Si photodiode exhibited exceptional performance in detecting NIR light at a wavelength of 1050 nm under a 0 V bias. It has a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) value of 120 nm and achieved a photoresponsivity value of 355 mA/W at a light output of 10 mW/cm(2). It is further supported by its external quantum efficiency of 42% and detectivity value of 6.93x10(11) Jones at the peak wavelength and very fast response speed with similar to 33 mu s rise/fall times. These findings highlight the potential of photodiode as an efficient narrow-band in the NIR region.Bursa Uludag University-TUSA
