E-cigarette aerosol collection using converging and straight tubing sections: physical mechanisms

    No full text
Hypothesis Identification and quantification of harmful chemicals in e-cigarette aerosol requires collecting the aerosolized e-liquid for chemical analysis. In 2016, Olmedo at al. empirically developed a simple method for aerosol collection by directing the aerosol through a sequence of alternating straight and converging tubing sections, which drain the recovered e-liquid into a collection vial. The tubing system geometry and flow conditions promote inertial impaction of aerosolized e-liquid on tube walls, where it deposits and flows into the collection vial. Experiments We use high-speed optical imaging to visualize aerosol transport in proxies of the collection system. We also determined collection efficiencies of various configurations of the collection system. Findings A turbulent jet emerges from converging conical sections and impinges onto the wall of downstream tubing sections, resulting in inertial impaction and deposition of the aerosol. For inertial impaction to occur the tip radius of the converging section must be small enough for a jet to be formed and the sequence of tubing sections must be curved in a polygon-like manner such that the jet emerging from a converging section impinges on the downstream tube wall. The collection efficiency is significantly smaller without such curvature.Peer reviewe

    No full text
This paper is based on a series of basic assumptions. First, the existence of a global educational policy agenda. Second, the existence of policy hybridization processes through which this agenda is transformed at the regional, national, and subnational levels. Third, the crucial importance of discourses and conceptual articulations that support and legitimize the directions of the educational political agenda. Fourth, the possibility of researching on this phenomenon by a textual analysis of policy documents. Based on these premises, and from a policy problematization approach, we inquire about the beginnings of the regionalization process of the Education 2030 Agenda in Latin America from the study of a series of policy documents. The results turn visible the coexistence of multiple representations, even contradictory, around the "problem" of the government of education. For each of these, we present an analysis of its foundations and its potential effects, highlighting the processes of selection and reformulation of the global agenda at the regional level. The conclusions cover the scope and limitations of this research and highlight the potential of the policy problematization approach.

This paper seeks to make a specific contribution to the research on “inclusive education” based on the reading and discussion of different problematizations carried out in the Argentine academy in dialogue with contributions from (political) philosophy, historiography and the sociology of education. After reviewing some definitions stated in the global academic and political discourse and outlining some contextual coordinates that situate the Argentine problematizations, we advance in the discussion around three axes: 1) etymological or radical critique to the concept of “educational inclusion”; 2) some of the principles and dilemmas of justice involved in the “educational inclusion” agenda; and 3) the (im)possibilities of the school in dealing with the inclusion mandate. Finally, we suggest the importance of advancing in alternative problematizations that enable the production of fairer educational policies and systems.
