Passing on Success? Productivity Outcomes for Quarterbacks Chosen in the 1999-2004 National Football League Player Entry Drafts

    No full text
Seventy quarterbacks were selected during six NFL drafts held 1999-2004. This paper analyzes information available prior to the draft (college, college passing statistics, NFL Combine data) and draft outcomes (overall number picked and signing bonus). Also analyzed for these players are measures of NFL playing opportunity (games played, games started, pass attempts) and measures of productivity (Pro Bowls made, passer rating, DVOA, and DPAR) for up to the first seven years of each drafted player’s NFL career. We find that more highly-drafted QBs get significantly more opportunity to play in the NFL. However, we find no evidence that more highly-drafted QBs become more productive passers than lower-drafted QBs that see substantial playing time. Furthermore, QBs with more pass attempts in their final year of more highly-ranked college programs exhibit lower NFL passing productivity.Sports, NFL, Draft, Quarterback, Productivity

T-MAH: A Token Passing MAC protocol for Ad Hoc Networks

    No full text
(T-MAH), discussed in this paper, is a distributed medium access protocol designed for wireless multi-hop networks. With T-MAH access scheme the network is organized in clusters (called Token Groups) with a Token Group Head as the leader of the group. In each single cluster is used a token based technique, i.e. each node in the cluster is allowed to transmit the user data only after has received a particular packet (called token) and the time slot has not been expired. The combination of a controlled MAC protocol and a hierarchical network division, reduces the number of the error due to packet collision and permits a good channel reutilization. I

Enhanced Contention Resolution Aloha - ECRA

    No full text
Random Access (RA) Medium Access (MAC) protocols are simple and effective when the nature of the traffic is unpredictable and random. In the following paper, a novel RA protocol called Enhanced Contention Resolution ALOHA (ECRA) is presented. This evolution, based on the previous Contention Resolution ALOHA (CRA) protocol, exploits the nature of the interference in unslotted Aloha-like channels for trying to resolve most of the partial collision that can occur there. In the paper, the idea behind ECRA is presented together with numerical simulations and a mathematical analysis of its performance gain. It is shown that relevant performance increases in both throughput and Packet Error Rate (PER) can be reached by ECRA with respect to CRA. A comparison with Contention Resolution Diversity Slotted ALOHA (CRDSA) is also provided

A strong current trend in the automation industrial, residential and hospital areas is the real-time transmission, through a wireless network of data related to sensors, actuators and systems diagnosis. However, current techniques and technologies are still unable to control tasks with critical deadlines requirements using these networks. This work has been developed in this research issue, and during its development, an experimental scenario to evaluate the real-time communication in wireless networks compatible with the IEEE 802.11 was built. Experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of a network composed of real-time (RT) stations that shares the communication channel with no real-time (NRT) stations. The set of NRT transmits background tra c to simulate a real open communication environment. In this work, some preliminary results for a set of values of contention window (CW), in which that is one of the mechanisms responsible for provide priorities in EDCA function, where it was possible to conclude that the de ned values of the IEEE 802.11e are not adequate to work in open communication environments. The obtained experimental results shows that there are a high packet lost rate

Ó cheantar an Fheadha i ndeisceart Ard Mhacha don bhfile Pádraig Mac a Liondain. Is féidir dataí a bheatha a bheachtú a bhuíochas ar fhile eile ón Fheadh a bhí comhaimseartha leis, Fearghas Mac an Bheatha (fl. 1700), agus a bhuíochas fós ar ghearrchuntas beathaisnéise le Nioclás Ó Cearnaigh (c. 1802–c. 1865) ina dhiaidh sin in ARÉ LS 23 N 33. Ina thuireamh in ómós dá charaid dar tús ‘A sheanchríoch Fáil, is gnách gach léan ort’, is mar seo a chuir Mac an Bheatha é: Seacht gcéad déag an ré a dheachtaím daoibh, is triocha ina dhiaidh an réim go beacht is trí, ó theacht Mhic Dé dár saoradh go ceart is trí mhí, go Pádraig a dhul a dh’éag, mo léan, san feart faoi liag. Is é ‘an feart’ a ainmnítear in áit eile sa tuireamh céanna ná Cill an Chreagáin in aice le baile Chrois Mhic Lionnáin, Co. Ard Mhacha. D’áitigh Nioclás Ó Cearnaigh gur cailleadh Mac a Liondain ‘in April 1733 in the 68th year of his age’, más fíor, rud a fhágfadh gur timpeall na bliana 1665 a rugadh é.Peer-review status unspecifiedCheckdate as researcher profile gives different book title and publication date?
