The Northern Front Imagined: Defending Denmark in Emil Bønnelycke's <i>Spartanerne</i> (1919)
In late October 1919 the Danish author Emil Bønnelycke published a highly ambitious war novel, Spartanerne (The Spartans), in which he merged the war experiences of a Spartan soldier of the Antique world, a soldier fighting in the trenches of the First World War, and that of a young Danish recruit being trained for war. The three different war experiences mirror each other in this modernist novel that makes use of chronological jump cutting à la D. W. Griffith's Birth of a Nation (1915) and imagines Denmark being drawn into the world war that had ended scarcely a year before the time of the novel's publication. </jats:p

Driving Forces of Inflation in New EU Countries (in English)
Driving forces of inflation in the eight new EU member states from Central and Eastern Europe are analyzed using the generalized dynamic-factor model (GDFM) developed by Forni et al. the impact of various macroeconomic variables on inflation is estimated by regressing the GDFM idiosyncratic component on these variables; the importance of second-round and indirect effects from energy shocks is assessed using a bivariate VAR. The author´s results suggest that, first, a significant part of inflation in the new members is driven by common factors, and, second, common component inflation is a better estimator of underlying inflation than a core inflation measure (i.e., headline inflation, excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco).generalized dynamic-factor model, idiosyncratic components, inflation

Structuring Urban Redevelopment Projects: Moving Participants Up the Learning Curve
Urban redevelopment projects implemented through public-private partnerships are the preferred way to revitalize inner-city areas. As the numbers of participants increase and deal structures become more complex, participants need more detailed knowledge of one another’s motivations and behaviors to achieve feasible redevelopment projects. This research describes the expectations and behaviors of private sources of debt and equity, especially their financial return requirements, and the actions public participants can take to reduce project risks. With this knowledge, lead public and private participants should be able to forge economically viable projects that generate greater public benefits while reducing the risks of urban redevelopment.
INTERPRETACJE RUCHOWE MUZYKI W METODZIE RYTMIKI EMILA JAQUES-DALCROZE’A
The method of learning and experiencing music through movement is proposed by Emil Jaques-Dalcroze at the beginning of the 20th century as a very complex, holistic method of artistic education, that leads to harmonious development of man through the movement. Connected with it integrally interpretation of movement/rhythm and music determines the legible and interesting proposal of the cognition of music. The essence of "motorial music" interpretation - the synthesis of music and of planned movement in space - appeals to contemporary determinants of the contemplation of art. The perception of music in general is often associated with activity in the supplementary motor cortex, as is shown in the D. S. Levitin research (This is your brain in music" (quoted in Bader 2013, 398), published by Dulton, NY in 2006.), pointing to a strong influence of movement and perception in music. Moreover, an author desires to emphasize these words with large determination: Let us not be afraid of to be created artistic visions of music in the movement and space, marked by the features of individuals, because, exactly motorial music is the perfect manner of the perception of a musical work, which makes both performers and receivers part of the whole, involving them in the world of music
A Study on the Performance and a Performance of Mozart's Fantasia in D minor K. 397
abstract: Musical interpretation is challenging when one's goal is to evoke an emotional response from an audience. In order to develop a well-informed interpretation of Mozart's Fantasia in D minor K. 397, a study was conducted on the historical background of the piece and various performances by well-regarded performers. Fantasias are written works, but improvisatory by nature. Mozart's fantasias were influenced by C. P. E. Bach's, which included sudden changes in emotion. An Emil Gilels performance provided a classically trained approach, while Mitsuko Uchida's performance provided an emotional approach. Colin Tilney and John Irving performances elucidated the sound of the instruments that Mozart would have been composing with. Altogether, the research culminated in an interpretation of the D minor Fantasia that endeavored to capture the essence of fantasy, improvisation and emotion
Emil Leon post: The contributor to the foundations of computer science from Augustów
The article is devoted to Leon Post, an outstanding mathematician and logician, the co-founder of fundamentals of theoretical computer science. The scholar from Augustów, with Jewish roots, left Poland in 1904 at the age of seven and settled with his parents in the United States. The author of the article looks at Post’s biography in a broad historical context, discussing in the first part of the text the history of Jewish settlement in Augustów and in Eastern Poland. Then he goes on to the presentation of Emil Post’s biography, showing his childhood, the controversy associated with conflicting information about the arrival of Post to America, his years of study, years of scientific work and the family situation of the scientist from Augustów. In the next part of the article, the scientific achievements of the researcher are presented. The greatest achievements of Emil Post include the creation of many-valued logic, the creation of a computational model, called today the “Post’s machine”, and the theory of μ-recursive functions, thanks to which he is now considered to be one of the founders of the theory of computing machines. Post’s work had also impact on the development of formal linguistics.KAZIMIERZ TRZĘSICKI, prof. zw. dr hab., kierownik Katedry Logiki, Informatyki i Filozofii Nauki w Instytucie Socjologii i Kognitywistyki Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku. Cello techniques and performing practices in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
This thesis comprises a study of cello performance practices throughout the nineteenth century and into the early decades of the twentieth. It is organised in terms of the increasing complexity of the concepts which it examines, as they are to be found in printed and manuscript music, instrumental methods and larger treatises, early recordings, concert reviews and pictures. Basic posture is considered along with different ways of holding the
bow. The development of the tail-pin shows that even when it was widely used, the older posture was still referred to as a model. Some implications for tone quality and tonal
projection are considered in the light of the shape of the arms. Some connections between the cellist's posture and that recommended by etiquette books are explored. The
functionality of the left hand and arm, and the development of modem scale fingerings, show that there was a considerable period of overlap between newer and older practices, with modern scale fingerings evolving over a long period of time. Similarly, views on the function of the right wrist in bowing are shown to change gradually, moving towards a more active upper arm movement with less extreme flexibility of the wrist. Two central expressive techniques especially associated with string playing arc considered in the context of the cello, namely vibrato and portamento. These topics are examined in the light of written indications in music, recommendations in cello treatises, and the practices evidenced in early recordings. The sources for this study can be brought into an overall
framework of a constant dialogue between `theory', as expressed in verbal instructions to the learner, or general a priori reflections about the cello, and `practice', manifested in performing editions and early recordings, or in individual acts of reception. A wide divergence is noted, both between theory and practice in general, and in terms of different styles of playing observable at any one time. It is suggested that tensions between practice
and critical disapproval can be resolved in terms of Lacanian discourse. Several test cases are used in order to compare several different recordings of the same works. The question of the musical character of the cello is discussed in terms of widespread assumptions about its gendered identity. A wide range of sources suggest that this moved from a straightforwardly `masculine' identity expressed through a controlling, elevated eloquence to a less clearly defined one, incorporating the 'feminine', with a greater stress on uninhibited emotional expression. Some performance implications for this change of view are pursued with respect to specific repertoires. Broad conclusions stress the importance of the diversity of performance practices as opposed to unifying generalisations
Putin's use of history: an analysis of arguments and history
The project seeks to illuminate Vladimir V. Putin's use og history in relation to his address from september 24. 2022. In this occasion the term, and concept, of "historie-bruk" (use of history) as formulated by the Swedish author and professor in history Karl-Göran Karlson, will be used, together with, Stephen Edelston Toulmins model of argumentation in order to explain how and why Putin uses history
