Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Effects of graded dietary lipid levels on growth, feed utilization, body composition and metabolism in juvenile white leg shrimp, Penaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) reared in inland saline water of 10 g/L salinity
Not AvailableA feeding trial was performed for 60 days to determine the dietary lipid requirement of Penaeus vannamei juveniles reared in inland saline water (ISW) of 10 g/L salinity. Six iso-nitrogenous (360 g/kg crude protein) and heterocaloric (15.4?17.6 KJ DE/g) semi-purified diets were prepared with graded level of lipid viz., 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 g/kg (L2?L12 with 20 g/kg incremental level). Two hundred and seventy P. vannamei juveniles (5.51 ? 0.01 g) were randomly allocated (15 shrimps/200 L) into six treatment groups in triplicate following a completely randomized design. The shrimp of L4 and L6 groups exhibited significantly higher per cent weight gain (WG%), specific growth rate and protein efficiency ratio and the lowest feed conversion ratio. The lipid efficiency ratio and hepatopancreatic somatic index were significantly decreased and increased with increasing levels of lipid respectively. The L6, L8 and L10 groups exhibited significantly higher (p < .05) lipase activity. Shrimp of higher dietary lipid fed groups exhibited significantly higher (p < .05) aminotransferase activity than their lower dietary lipid fed counterparts. Based on WG% data, broken-line linear and second-order polynomial regression analysis showed that the optimal dietary lipid requirement of P. vannamei in ISW of 10 g/L salinity was 46.5 and 51.4 g/kg respectively
Scope of Archaea in Fish Feed: a New Chapter in Aquafeed Probiotics? Probiotics and Antimicrobial Proteins
Not AvailableThe outbreak of diseases leading to substantial loss is a major bottleneck in aquaculture. Over the last decades, the concept of using feed probiotics was more in focus to address the growth and health of cultivable aquatic organisms. The objective of this review is to provide an overview of the distinct functionality of archaea from conventional probiotics in nutrient utilization, specific caloric contribution, evading immune response and processing thermal resistance. The prime limitation of conventional probiotics is the viability of desired microbes under harsh feed processing conditions. To overcome the constraints of commercial probiotics pertaining to incompatibility towards industrial processing procedure, a super microbe, archaea, appears to be a potential alternative approach in aquaculture. The peculiarity of the archaeal cell wall provides them with heat stability and rigidity under industrial processing conditions. Besides, archaea being one of the gut microbial communities participates in various health-oriented biological functions in animals. Thus, the current review devoted that administration of archaea in aquafeed could be a promising strategy in aquaculture. Archaea may be used as a potential probiotic with the possible modes of functions and advantages over conventional probiotics in aquafeed preparation. The present review also provides the challenges associated with the use of archaea for aquaculture and a brief outline of the patents on archaea to highlight the various use of archaea in different sectors
Green pea, Pisum sativum leaf meal with supplemented exogenous cellulase and xylanase can completely replace de- oiled rice bran (DORB) in the diet of Labeo rohita (Hamilton, 1878) fingerlings
Not AvailableGreen pea, Pisum sativum leaf meal (PSLM) was evaluated by conducting a 60-day feeding trial in the diet of Labeo rohita fingerlings. Six iso-nitrogenous (310 g CP/kg) and isocaloric (14 MJ DE/kg) diets viz. Control (0 g PSLM/kg), LM150 (150 g PSLM/kg), LM300 (300 g PSLM/kg), CCX (control + 1 g cellulase and xylanase, CX mixture/kg), LM150CX (LM150 + 1 g CX/kg) and LM300CX (LM300 + 1 g CX/kg) were prepared. Two hundred and seventy acclimated fish (5.06 ? 0.08 g) were randomly distributed in six experimental groups in triplicate with the stocking density of 15 fish per tank and the fish of each experimental tank were fed with respective diet at satiation level. The specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, apparent dry matter digestibility coefficient, amylase activity and the activities of muscle aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase of LM150CX group were the highest among the experimental groups. However, LM300CX and control groups exhibited significantly higher (p < 0.05) values of these parameters than other groups except LM150CX group. Hepatic catalase and superoxide dismutase activities of LM150CX group were the lowest. Moreover, LM300CX and control groups showed significantly lower (p < 0.05) activities of these enzymes than other dietary groups except LM150CX group. The groups fed with leaf meal and exogenous enzyme showed enhanced hepatic IGF-1 expression. In conclusion, dietary inclusion of PSLM at 300 g/kg with supplementation of CX (1:1) at 1 g/kg could replace DORB completely in the diet of L. rohita without compromising the growth performance
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
