    Health Professionals of Prevention in Italy: The Value of Expertise During COVID-19 Pandemic

    There are 22 different degree courses related to the Healthcare Professions in the Italian university system, which are divided into four areas. “Healthcare Professions of Prevention” is the fourth area and it is fundamental for the National Health Service. In particular, in this pandemic emergency situation, the contribution of the Prevention Technicians in the Environment and Workplaces (PTEW) is essential in the field and workplace management. The “Core Competence” of the PTEW is to carry out, with professional autonomy, prevention, verification, and control activities in the field of hygiene and safety of living and working environments. In the hospitals, the indications provided by national and/or regional authorities are implemented through procedures on good hygiene practices developed by PTEW (e.g., hand hygiene, “respiratory tract hygiene,” environmental hygiene, social distancing, and use of Personal Protective Equipment). One of the activities is the health surveillance on the field by population monitoring. The protocols foreseen for the “in-flow of workers” involve a wider control between social life and work. The PTEW will use a Check List divided into 3 macro phases: Entry, Activity Context, and Exit, defining each behavior of the work phases with a constant presence of verification of the procedures. The PTEW will be a Leader on the topics of education, training, and persuasion, considering a New Principle that “transforms the worker as active part in the application and diffusion of the safety measures”

    Brain connectivity and information-flow breakdown revealed by a minimum spanning tree-based analysis of mri data in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia

    Brain functional disruption and cognitive shortfalls as consequences of neurodegeneration are among the most investigated aspects in current clinical research. Traditionally, specific anatomical and behavioral traits have been associated with neurodegeneration, thus directly translatable in clinical terms. However, these qualitative traits, do not account for the extensive information flow breakdown within the functional brain network that deeply affect cognitive skills. Behavioural variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by behavioral and executive functions disturbances. Deviations from the physiological cognitive functioning can be accurately inferred and modeled from functional connectivity alterations. Although the need for unbiased metrics is still an open issue in imaging studies, the graph-theory approach applied to neuroimaging techniques is becoming popular in the study of brain dysfunction. In this work, we assessed the global connectivity and topological alterations among brain regions in bvFTD patients using a minimum spanning tree (MST) based analysis of resting state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) data. Whilst several graph theoretical methods require arbitrary criteria (including the choice of network construction thresholds and weight normalization methods), MST is an unambiguous modeling solution, ensuring accuracy, robustness, and reproducibility. MST networks of 116 regions of interest (ROIs) were built on wavelet correlation matrices, extracted from 41 bvFTD patients and 39 healthy controls (HC). We observed a global fragmentation of the functional network backbone with severe disruption of information-flow highways. Frontotemporal areas were less compact, more isolated, and concentrated in less integrated structures, respect to healthy subjects. Our results reflected such complex breakdown of the frontal and temporal areas at both intra-regional and long-range connections. Our findings highlighted that MST, in conjunction with rs-fMRI data, was an effective method for quantifying and detecting functional brain network impairments, leading to characteristic bvFTD cognitive, social, and executive functions disorders

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Effects of Difluoro(oxalato)borate-Based Ionic Liquid as Electrolyte Additive for Li-Ion Batteries

    In this work, the use of N-methyl-N-propylpiperidinium difluoro(oxalato)borate Pip13DFOB ionic liquid (IL), originally synthesized in our laboratory, as an additive for liquid electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), is proposed. The synthesized IL exhibits glass and melting transitions at &minus;70.9 &deg;C and 17.1 &deg;C, respectively, and a thermal decomposition temperature over 230 &deg;C. A mixture based on 1.0 M LiPF6 in 1:1 v/v ethylene carbonate (EC): dimethyl carbonate (DMC) electrolyte solution (so called LP30) and the IL was prepared and tested in lithium metal cells versus two different commercially available carbonaceous electrodes, i.e., graphite (KS6) and graphene (GnP), and versus a high voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) cathode. A noticeable improvement was observed for Li|LNMO cells with an IL-added electrolyte, which exhibited a high specific capacity above 120 mAh g&minus;1 with a Coulombic efficiency above 93% throughout 200 cycles, while the efficiency fell below 80% after 80 cycles with the absence of IL. The results confirm that the IL is promising additive for the electrolyte, especially for a longer cycle life of high-voltage cells

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Predicting the Thermal Behavior in the Design of Type V Deep Eutectic Solvents: The Combined Role of Polarity and Steric Asymmetry

    The thermal behavior of the hydrophobic eutectic mixtures formed by l-menthol (MEN) with 4-methoxyphenol (4-Met), 2-tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol (BHA), 2-tert-butyl-4-ethylphenol (TBEP), and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) has been investigated to elucidate the different factors governing the solid–liquid equilibrium (SLE) at the molecular level. Our comparative study highlights the contribution of hydrogen-bonding (H-bonding) asymmetry of deep eutectic solvent (DES) precursors, i.e., their ability to act as strong H-bond donors and weak H-bond acceptors or vice versa. When deriving from resonance effects, this concept was previously presented as “polarity asymmetry” and introduced to explain the thermal behavior of type V DES. Here, we expand this concept to demonstrate that steric factors led by the insertion of ad hoc functional groups in the precursor molecules also have a dominant role in the deviation from thermodynamic ideality. In this way, an increasing temperature depression is observed starting from the 4-Met/MEN mixtures up to the BHA/MEN, TBHQ/MEN, and TBEP/MEN ones. The SLE prediction has been carried out through an innovative approach combining the COSMO-RS solvation model and density functional tight-binding molecular dynamics simulations, benchmarked against experimental data, and presented here for the first time. The impact of this work is that of providing new tools for a more conscious understanding and design of hydrophobic type V DES as new sustainable media for applicative purposes

    First-line carboplatin/nab-paclitaxel in advanced ovarian cancer patients, after hypersensitivity reaction to solvent-based taxanes: a single-institution experience

    One of the major challenges related to solvent-based taxanes administration in clinical practice is the high rate of hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs). Nab-paclitaxel is a solvent-free, albumin-bound, paclitaxel, which minimize the risk of HSR occurrence. In this single-institution, retrospective analysis, we evaluated stage IIIc–IV epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) patients, treated with first-line carboplatin/nab-paclitaxel (± bevacizumab), after the occurrence of an HSR with solvent-based paclitaxel (and/or docetaxel). Between April 2012 and December 2018, ten patients (20.8%) received carboplatin/nab-paclitaxel (± bevacizumab) after the occurrence of an HSR to solvent-based taxanes. Among the evaluable patients, ORR was 100%. At median follow-up of 28.5 months, median PFS was 16.7 months, and median OS was 65.4 months, respectively. Median received dose intensity (DI) was 86% and 80% of the projected DI for nab-paclitaxel and carboplatin, respectively. There were no treatment-related grade 4 adverse events. Most relevant treatment-related grade 3 adverse events were: asthenia (10%), hypertransaminasemia (10%), neutropenia (20%), thrombocytopenia (20%), and anemia (10%). No HSR recurrence was observed. The high rate of HSR occurrence could limit first-line treatment options in clinical practice. Carboplatin/nab-paclitaxel association could represent a valid treatment option in this setting

    Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tím, jak mohou B2B obchodníci využívat sociální média v prodeji. Na základě systematické rešerše literatury, autor zjistil, že akademici, zkoumající danou problematiku, navrhují další výzkum, a to: v kterých konkrétních krocích se dají využít sociální média v prodeji (Salo, 2017). Autor se na základě toho rozhodl zjistit, jaké sociální sítě, různé technologie a pluginy se dají využít v B2B prodeji - tzv. social sellingu. Social selling se v této práci týká primárně procesu akvizice a okrajově péčí o stávající zákazníky. Autor si vybral kvalitativní průzkum pomocí 10 hloubkových polo-strukturovaných rozhovorů, aby odhalil jak, která sociální média to jsou, tak i motivaci prodejců, proč tato média používat/nepoužívat. Aby autor dodržel správnost vyhodnocení výsledků, data byla analyzována pomocí Tématické analýzy, která v této studii vykrystalizovala 2 hlavní strategické přístupy v social sellingu. Tyto přístupy (tzv. Push a Pull strategie) obsahují praktické příklady a konkrétní aktivity, které mohou prodejci využívat v každodenní praxi. Tyto výsledky jsou prezentovány s důrazem na praktičnost a jednoduchost implementace. Tvoří proto hlavní přínos autorovo výzkumu. V poslední části autor zmiňuje výzvy a manažerská doporučení, které mohou obchodníci využít v každodenním pracovním životě.This diploma thesis focuses on social media usage in B2B sales. Based on the systematic literature review conducted by the author, he has found out that recent researchers (Salo, 2017) suggest further research in the area of how and in which sales phase should various social networking sites, technologies and plugins used. To further fill this research gap, author decided to identify these social media and their usage among B2B salespeople in the so-called social selling process. The social selling process in this thesis applies mainly to acquiring new prospects and tangentially to taking care of existing clients (follow-up step). Author has chosen a qualitative research method via conducting 10 in-depth semi-structured interviews to reveal these instruments as well as motivation of a sales person on why to use social media in the selling process. The collected data was analyzed using Thematic analysis to ensure the right procedure and to identify main themes which crystalized into 2 main strategic approaches in social selling. These approaches (Push and Pull) include practical examples of concrete activities which sales people can use in their daily jobs and are presented with focus on practicality and ease of implementation. These also form the main contribution of author`s research. In the last part, author mentions challenges in social selling and recommended managerial implications for salesforce
