A semiparametric bivariate probit model for joint modeling of outcomes in STEMI patients
In this work we analyse the relationship among in-hospital mortality and a treatment effectiveness outcome in patients affected by ST-Elevation myocardial infarction. The main idea is to carry out a joint modeling of the two outcomes applying a Semiparametric Bivariate Probit Model to data arising from a clinical registry called STEMI Archive. A realistic quantification of the relationship between outcomes can be problematic for several reasons. First, latent factors associated with hospitals organization can affect the treatment efficacy and/or interact with patient’s condition at admission time. Moreover, they can also directly influence the mortality outcome. Such factors can be hardly measurable. Thus, the use of classical estimation methods will clearly result in inconsistent or biased parameter estimates. Secondly, covariate-outcomes relationships can exhibit nonlinear patterns. Provided that proper statistical methods for model fitting in such framework are available, it is possible to employ a simultaneous estimation approach to account for unobservable confounders. Such a framework can also provide flexible covariate structures and model the whole conditional distribution of the response
Introduction
Short introduction to the volume "Diodorus and the Successors of Alexander. Selected Studies by Franca Landucci
Framing Big Data : A Linguistic and Discursive Approach
This volume addresses big data as a socio-technical construct with huge potential for innovation in key sectors such as healthcare, government and business. Big data and its increasingly widespread use in such influential spheres can generate ethically controversial decisions, including questions surrounding privacy, consent and accountability. The research attempts to unpack the epistemological implications of the term ‘big data’, as well as the opportunities and responsibilities which come with it. The author analyses the linguistic texture of the big data narrative in the news media, in healthcare and in EU law on data protection, in order to contribute to its understanding from the critical perspective of language studies
INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM “COMMUNICATION IN THE AGE OF TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGES”
The International Colloquium “Communication in the Age of Technological
Challenges” brought together scholars from Europe and the Americas in Buenos Aires on May
9th, 2023, in a blended format. The event aimed to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions
on the influence of technology on communication within academic fields. With a focus on
epistemological, anthropological, and ethical challenges, experts in the fields of sociology,
linguistics, media studies, and law explored the implications of technological innovations
like big data, machine learning, and AI. The colloquium was jointly hosted by the Universidad
de Flores in Argentina and the University of Warsaw in Poland. The program featured two
panel discussions and a keynote speech. The first panel examined technological challenges
from an international legal perspective, covering topics such as human rights, aviation
communication testing, and international law’s response to ASAT weapons. The keynote
speech by Dr. Maria Cristina Paganoni delved into the discursive aspects of big data. The
second panel focused on technological challenges in social sciences, including sociology of
law, media studies, and higher education. Presentations in Spanish, English, and Portuguese
showcased research on topics such as AI algorithms in legal decisions, technology integration
in teaching practices, online echo chambers, and the societal impact of technological
innovations. The colloquium provided a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling
scholars to identify common concerns and emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary
approaches to address technology-related challenges

Decreto di Priene in onore di Antigono figlio di Filippo
This decree of the Ionian city of Priene was presumably displayed in the sanctuary of Athena Polias. It granted the citizenship, tax exemption, and trade freedom to Antigonus son of Philip, generally identified with Antigonus Monophthalmus. The decree passed when Hippocrates was prytanos, but the lack of elements prevents us to date it. If the honorand is Antigonus Monophthalmus, as seems, the decree dates back to the period when he was satrap of Phrygia, Lycia and Pamphylia, i.e. between 334 BC and 306 BC, because the text does not mention the royal title. Scholars try to date the document more closely. Some of them connect the honours to Antigonus with Alexander the Great’s dispositions for Priene and place the decree in 334 BC. Some others link them with Antigonus’ politics to protect the freedom of the Greek cities and suggest a dating to the 310s BC
