No full textNotre-Dame-en-Vaux in Chalons-en-Champagne houses a traditional carillon of 56 bells. The carillon was started in 1860 with 56 bells that were cast by the Bollee Bell Foundry (Le Mans, France). Twenty-four of those bells remain. In 1955, 32 bells were replaced or recast by Les Fils de Georges Paccard (Annecy, France). Thirty-two of the bells from that work remain. In 1978, 13 bells were replaced or recast by Les Fils de Georges Paccar

No full textThis thesis is a study wich the goal is to valorise the historical potential of Paccard Bell Foundrie’s archives. In this goal, the current study focus on thecase of one of the most important réalisation of the Paccard Bell Foundry. It’s the so called Savoyarde Bell, bourdon bell of Montmartre’s basilica of Sacred-Heart, give as a present by Savoy. The Savoyarde’s weight is 18 835 kilograms, meaning that it’s still today the biggest France’s bell. The idea of this study is to use the Savoyarde as a key to have access to th Paccard Bell Foundrie’s archives. The thesis is divide in three parts. It speak first about the similitudes beetwen the Savoyarde and the Montmartre’s basilica of the Sacred-Heart for these it was made, in the context of their respective development ; the religious symbolisms incarnate by them ; or the politicals symbolisms they represent. The study continue on the part of the Savoyarde for the Paccard’s corporation. The Savoyarde act as a sort of showcase of Paccard Bell Foundry, as a pivot for his history ; as a springboard for his notoriety ; but also with the numerous dificulties encounter during the making of this bell. The Savoyarde show to us the propers dificulties of a corporation activity. Then, this study is interested by the link beetwen the Savoyarde and the Savoy which give it. Thus, the Savoyarde act for Savoy the rôle of spokeperson, in valorising Savoy ; as a sign of the catholic Savoi’s « love » for the catholic France ; and as the savoyard’s proud expression. This study show us, across the Savoyarde, the diversity and versatility of Paccard Bell Foundrie’s archives.Ce mémoire est une étude ayant pour but de mettre en valeur le potentiel historique des archives de la Fonderie Paccard. Pour ce faire, la présente étude se concentre sur le cas de l’une des réalisation les plus importante de l’entreprise. Il s’agit de la Savoyarde, bourdon offert par la Savoie à l’occasion de l’édification de la basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre. The author presents the methods applied to identify the products of this foundry and discusses the elements of the bell decor that were used in it. Based on the published historical data and surviving bells, the article attempts to reconstruct the history of the foundry and the circumstances of its foundation, identifies the craftsmen that worked there and gives the initial assumptions about the owner of the foundry. It has been established that the Varniai bell foundry functioned for even 45 years (1786-1831) and the craftsmen Patrycjusz Kaniewski (1791-1815), Johann Hartmann (1815-1816) and Józef Racewicz (1825-1831) worked in it. Their surnames suggest that most likely they were not related by blood. The preliminary date of the establishment of the bell foundry is linked to the Varniai Cathedral fire of 1785, which destroyed its old bells. It is possible that on the initiative of the bishop or the chapter of Samogitia, after this adversity a craftsman was invited, who established the bell foundry. The Varniai bell foundry cast new bells for the Varniai cathedral as well as for a number of other churches; 49 bells are currently attributed to this foundry, and the authors of the vast majority of them had not been identified before. It is very likely that the first product of the newly established foundry was a bell that was cast in 1786 and is still hanging in the Varniai cathedral. Due to the lack of data, the question of the ownership of the foundry remains unanswered. The article does not discount the possibility that it belonged to the Varniai diocese and used to be rented out because the bells of the Varniai foundry spread exclusively in the territory of the then diocese of Samogitia. The early works of the foundry are excellently made with finely founded ornaments and texts. Later works (by craftsman Johann Hartmann) are of poorer technical quality. The activities and products of the Varniai bell foundry are important for the history of the economic and cultural life and art history of Lithuania and, in particular, of Samogitia. No full textThe chime at St. Paul’s Church has 14 bells. The instrument began in 1923 as an 11 bell chime, cast by the Meneely Bell Foundry (West Troy, New York, US). In 1986, three bells were added, cast by the Paccard Bell Foundry (Annecy, FR). The instrument was originally played via a traditional chimestand (keyboard), but was electrified in the 1986 expansion and is now playable via the organ console
