Bankruptcy risk prediction models based on artificial neural networks
The purpose of this research is to study the ability of
artificial neural networks to forecast the companies’ risk
of financial distress. We predicted the bankruptcy risk
using the associated financial ratios (overall liquidity
ratio and the overall solvency ratio) and two artificial
neural network models based on the backpropagation
algorithm. The proposed models were implemented and
tested using the PyBrain software and have been
applied to 55 companies listed on the Bucharest Stock
Exchange during 2010-2014. After a total of 19,944
iterations for the learning stage, the two algorithms
converged and the errors obtained during the tests
reached the fixed target. The empirical results showed
that the artificial neural network models are efficient and
reliable in detecting the risk of bankruptcy. The artificial
neural networks are very useful in economic analysis
when the complexity of data makes it difficult to
implement functions that proper describe the link
between economic variables. The use of the neural
networks method for predicting the risk of bankruptcy is
less common in Romania. This study intends to fill this
gap in the literature and we believe it could be of interest
not only for the companies listed on the stock exchange,
but also for investors, shareholders and banks

ACTIVITIES OF THE SONG AND DANCE ENSEMBLE DOINA IN 1942-1944
The State Academic Chapel ”Doina” is the oldest and most significant performing choir in the Republic of Moldova. An
important stage of development occurred during the Second World War: in 1942, the chapel was reorganized into the Doina
Song and Dance Ensemble, which brought together musicians, singers and dancers from the Moldovan State Philharmonic.
The author considers issues related to the life of the choir collective during the evacuation period and the implementation
of concert activities in military field conditions. The geography of the ensemble’s tours is studied, the selection of the repertoire
and the interaction of the administration with composers, poets, and heads of other organizations are analyzed. Particular
attention is paid to the organization of everyday life and the life of the artists of the Doina Ensemble in wartime conditions.
The author uses all available archival materials from the funds of the National Archives of the Republic of Moldova, memoirs
of the artists of the ensemble, reminiscences of eyewitnesses, biographies of the artistic directors of the ensemble
CORPORATE GOVERNANCE, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY A SURVEY OF WATER USE IN INDUSTRY
The main objective of this research is to analyze the level of worldwide water consumption and the water use
management in the industrial sector, as part of companies’ corporate governance and social responsibility. The work
aims to highlight some of the main issues regarding the sustainable use of water, as a finite and vulnerable resource,
essential element for life and environment. The research summarizes the main findings in this subject, comprising the
specific literature written in the period of 2007 – 2015. It might be interesting to find new methodologies for future
trends regarding worldwide water consumption and for monitoring water current usage
An Econometric model for the evolution of the Romanian Interbank Bid Rate (ROBID) in the context of the international financial crisis
The paper presents the econometric modeling of overnight inter-banking interest rates (ROBID) in our country, the analyzed period is between 1999-2010. The international financial crises had a great impact on the level of inter-banking interest rates after 2007 and it reflects the new level of risk for the Romanian system banking. The econometric model used in modeling the interest rates is an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model, the ARMA model is typically applied to time series data; the paper propose several ARMA models, applies econometric tests and based on them the analyzed series (the inter-banking interest rates) forecast will be made.ROBID, ARIMA model, financial crisis, forecast.
Firm Characteristics and Their Effects on Foreign Direct Investment Evidence from Romania, Republic of Moldova and Republic of Turkey
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine whether the fir accounting and financial performance ratios are reflected in the level of the Foreign Direct Investment and which one plays the most important role in attracting the foreign investors. Prior work: the paper investigates the prior research works on this topic, underlining the influence of different factors on the level of Foreign Direct Investment. Approach: The sample is made of 25 randomly extracted firms listed on Bucharest Stock Exchange, for the fiscal year 2014. We constructed and tested a multiple linear regression model, having the level of Foreign Direct Investment as the dependent variable and 22 financial ratios, as independent variables. Results: the authors found a positive effect of the financial ratios such as the net turnover to networking capital, equity multiplier, and net profitability ratio on the level of Foreign Direct Investment. Implications: the results of the research show that to enhance Foreign Direct Investment, corporations must improve their accounting and financial performance. Value: the originality of this study results from the fact that it takes into consideration three different economic environments: Romania, Turkey and Moldova, a European Union member country, a candidate to the European Union and a non- European Union country
