Witold Kula's Anthropological Vision of Economic History
The article deals with Witold Kula's anthropological vision of economic history, what allows the Author to analyze a broader phenomenon of anthropologization of history
Nicolaus Copernicus in the Culture of Memory
The volume explores the cultural legacy of Nicolaus Copernicus, spanning from the 16th century to the commemorative events of 2023. It innovatively examines the reception of Copernicus’ research and ideas, tracing his cultural impact across various historical epochs. Contributions within delve into the scientific reception of his theories as well as diverse forms of cultural remembrance, including monuments and commemorations, political memory, visual arts, iconography, street names, postage stamps, and tourism promotion. Emphasizing the importance of Copernicus within both Polish and German cultural spheres (including local cultural wars), the volume also considers his broader global influence

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Is there a sacred in a modern archive, and can archival scholars study it? The legacy of secularism in archival science and postsecularism
The article addresses the problem of the presence of the sacred in archives and the research of it conducted by archival science. Postsecular reflection allows a critical look at the roots of the archive and archival science in the context of the process of secularization in cultures associated with modernity. The consequence of this reflection is the recognition of the existence of the sacred in various versions in the archive and the opening of a path of reflection on it in archival science. This does not mean a return to religion in the field of archives and archival science and replacing the current archival practice with one that will be the result of archival reflection as secular theology. Archival sciences can draw on non-scientistic anthropological theories of culture, distancing themselves from the issue of the status of the sacred. A critical reflection on secularism in the context of archives and archival studies opens up many other possibilities for archival sciences to explore the sacred in the archive
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Krytyczne bycie w świecie edukacji historycznej – antropologiczny i kulturoznawczy głos o edukacji historycznej w polskich szkołach
Praca stanowi krytyczny antropologiczny i kulturoznawczy głos w dyskusji o edukacji historycznej w polskich szkołach. The article is a presentation of the research carried on history and nationalism in Polish school education. Witold Kula’s Concept of Economic History Understood as Historical and Comparative Anthropology
The article presents the concept of the economic history of Witold Kula. He understands economic history as historical and comparative anthropology. However, he does not see the need to change the name of the discipline because he understands anthropology in a traditional way. This name refers to a separate discipline of knowledge which is primarily interested in primitive societies. Taking account of the existence of different research styles in anthropology, it must be stated that Kula’s research on the economy represents the scientistic style of researching culture
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
