M statistic commands: interpoint distance distribution analysis.
We implement the commands mstat and mtest to perform inference based on the M statistic introduce by Bonetti and Pagano (2005=, a statistic that can be used to compare the interpoint distance distribution across groups of observations. The descriptions of the commands are accompanied by examples of applications with real and simulated data. We run the test on the Alt and Vach grave site dataset (Manjourides, 2009, Distance Based Methods for Space Time Modelling of the Health of Populations [PhD dissertation, Harvard School of Public Health]) and reject the null hypothesis, in contradiction to other published analyses. We also show how to adapt the techniques to discrete datasets with more than one unit in each location. Finally, we report an extensive application on breast cancer data in Massachusetts; in the application, we show the compatibility of the M commands with Pisati’s spmap package
Chapter 4. Advanced Measurement Systems For Crack Characterization
The previous chapters describe numerical models and testing methods designed to simulate, to repeat and to understand the cracking phenomena in asphalt materials and asphalt pavement (or pavements with at least one asphalt layer). This chapter shows some of the most advanced systems to measure the parameters related to cracking. They are classified using a classification grid that considers the most relevant characteristics of the measurement system. The proposed classification method was designed to provide a quick understanding of what data the systems are able to provide and what they can analyze.</p
Past and future sea-level rise along the coast of North Carolina, USA
We evaluate relative sea level (RSL) trajectories for North Carolina, USA, in the context of tide-gauge measurements and geological sea-level proxy reconstructions spanning the last ∼11,000 years. RSL rise was fastest (∼7 mm/yr) during the early Holocene and slowed over time with the end of the deglaciation. During the pre-Industrial Common Era (i.e., 0–1800 CE), RSL rise (∼0.7 to 1.1 mm/yr) was driven primarily by glacio-isostatic adjustment, though dampened by tectonic uplift along the Cape Fear Arch. Ocean/atmosphere dynamics caused centennial variability of up to ∼0.6 mm/yr around the long-term rate. It is extremely likely (probability P = 0.95) that 20th century RSL rise at Sand Point, NC, (2.8 ± 0.5 mm/yr) was faster than during any other century in at least 2,900 years. Projections based on a fusion of process models, statistical models, expert elicitation, and expert assessment indicate that RSL at Wilmington, NC, is very likely (P = 0.90) to rise by 42–132 cm between 2000 and 2100 under the high-emissions RCP 8.5 pathway. Under all emission pathways, 21st century RSL rise is very likely (P > 0.90) to be faster than during the 20th century. Due to RSL rise, under RCP 8.5, the current ‘1-in-100 year’ flood is expected at Wilmington in ∼30 of the 50 years between 2050-2100.The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10584-015-1451-xPeer reviewe
Incidence of autoantibodies in selected patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) during interferon (IFN) treatment, and prevalence in unselected patients.
Prevalence of autoantibodies in patients with chronic hepatitis C ( CHC), and incidence during interferon (IFN) treatment.
Effects of pre-hospital clopidogrel administration on early and late residual platelet reactivity in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients undergoing primary intervention
The results of our observational study can be summarized as follows:1) The pre-hospital administration of clopidogrel in STEMI patients resulted in a negligible level of platelet inhibition and as a consequence in high residual on-treatment platelet reactivity at the time of intervention in the great majority of patients at the time of intervention; 2) Patients receiving a 600 mg clopidogrel loading dose did not show an improved platelet profile in terms of %IPA or residual PRU levels as compared with those receiving a 300 mg regimen at the time of intervention; 3) The proportion of patients with residual high on-treatment platelet reactivity fell from 86% at the time of intervention to 11% at 1 month
