Camouflage of Fragmentation and Alienation in Nathanael West's A Cool Million
This paper examines West's satire and parody of the various schools of philosophic and artistic concepts that precede and underpin the Modem movement. By revealing the absurdity of Western thought in the early twentieth century, West was able to show the fragmentation and alienate he perceived in both society and the self. The revelation of this detritus becomes a deconstructive device that simultaneously demonstrates ways of creating meaning in the twentieth century, and that condemns any philosophy based on escape from suffering. The novel A Cool Million, variously attack artistic or political formulae that privilege escape from culture's degradation, or that offer erroneous promises of subjective or cultural wholeness. West's life and art, then, exhibits the usefulness of the camouflage in the grim battle for the formation of artistic and political subjectivity. Nathanael West's novel stands as significant reminders of the worry that plagued America and the reality almost a century back. There may be undoubtedly a greater amount that can, and should, a chance to be said around West as much worth of effort. Routes for considering regarding culture, politics, history, art, and the puzzling state of constantly human need aid all miserably joined Previously, as much dream. Such worries talk potently and straightforwardly to those birthplaces of the exhibit. Fragmentation and alienation are themes that carry over into West's novel, A Cool Million. West's novel, A Cool Million, would attack, exposing the grinding greed underlying the capitalist cliches of the American Dream. Because of this satire, the novel is important not only in what it exposes but also because it marks the turn in West's work to a much more specifically American literature. Fragmentation and alienation are of the modern world having deeply affected not only the realms of politics and rhetoric, but also the everyday landscape of common objects. There would be nothing but the blank suffering of alienated and fragmented beings in a shattered world. P. Ranjithkumar | Dr. R. Camouflage of Fragmentation and Alienation in Nathanael West’s A Cool Million
This paper looks at West\u27s parody and spoof of the different schools of thoughtful and creative ideas that go before and support the Modern development. By uncovering the silliness of Western thought in the middle twentieth century, West could demonstrate the fracture and estrange he saw in both society and the self. Those revelation about this rubbish turns under a deconstructive contraption that every last one of same time indicates techniques for making importance in the twentieth century, Furthermore that censures any rationale in perspective of escape from torment
Optimization of machining parameters on microdrilling of CFRP composites by Taguchi based desirability function analysis
331-338Microdrilling of CFRP composite materials is a complex process due to its properties and defects occur during the machining process. Optimization of process parameters is important to achieve the desired responses. This paper implies a new approach for optimizing the process parameters on drilling carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Optimization of process parameters is done by a method named as desirability function analysis (DFA), which is very useful tool to optimize multiple response problems. In microdrilling process, the feed rate and spindle speed and air pressure are selected as input parameter. Circularity and Feret’s diameter are taken as output parameters. The 0.5 mm solid carbide drill is chosen for microdrilling process. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is adapted to investigate the performance characteristics of machining parameters. The confirmation tests are conducted to validate the test result. The analysis reveals out that hole quality is mostly influenced by air pressure
Comparison of Response Surface Methodology and Genetic Algorithm in Parameter Optimization of Laser Welding Process
This paper presents the comparative studies between Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Genetic Algorithm (GA) in parameter optimization of laser welding process. Bead-on-plate weld was carried out on low carbon steel plate using diffusion cooled CO2 laser welding system. Weld bead geometry and heat affected zone were modelled and optimized as function of three laser welding process parameters namely laser power, welding speed and focal position using RSM based historic data design. The effects of the various laser welding parameters on weld bead geometry and Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) were studied using contour plots. The interaction effect of process parameters on the responses were studied using analysis of variance. Optimum welding parameters to obtain desire quality of joint were determined by numerical optimization module in RSM. Thereafter, priori approach of GA was also applied to determine the optimum welding parameter. The predictive ability of both the methodologies was compared. RSM yield better result than GA
Applications of self-assembling peptide scaffolds in regenerative medicine: the way to the clinic
Peptides that self-assemble into well-defined nanofibrous networks provide a prominent alternative to traditional biomaterials for fabricating scaffolds for use in regenerative medicine and other biomedical applications. Such scaffolds can be generated by decorating a peptide backbone with other bioactives such as cell specific adhesion peptides, growth factors and enzyme cleavable sequences. They can be designed to mimic the three-dimensional (3D) structural features of native ECM and can therefore also provide insight into the ECM-cell interactions needed for development of scaffolds that can serve as regeneration templates for specific target tissues or organs. This review highlights the potential application of self-assembling peptides in regenerative medicine.Funding Agencies|Swedish Research Council, Sweden [2012-42315-94008-81]</p
EXTRACTION, ISOLATION OF ACTIVE PRINCIPLES, ANTI-BACTERIAL AND WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF THE MARINE ALGAL SPECIES OEDOGONIUM GLOBOSUM AND OEDOGONIUM INTERMEDIUM
Objective: Algae is the undisputed treasures of the sea and are a valuable raw material, providing unlimited opportunities for new drug discoveries. Marine algal products are in demand in the international market in the form of standardized algal extracts or semi-finished products.
Methods: Aqueous and methanolic extracts of Oedogonium globosum and Oedogonium intermedium species were obtained maceration and hot percolation. The active principles from O. intermedium were isolated, purified by column chromatography, and characterized by spectral studies IR, λmax, 1HNMR and MS. The extracts of Oedogonium species were screened for their anti-microbial effects, acute dermal irritation and wound-healing activity studies.
Results: Comparing to Oedogonium intermedium (45 %, 90 %, 87 %), very low extractive yields were obtained for Oedogonium globosum (10.80 %, 37 %, 28 %). At phytochemical screening, Terpenoids, Flavanoids and, Glycans were found to be present in a significant amount and upon their isolation, it was found that a collection of fractions from cold extract with Rf value in the range 0.32-0.34 as Glycans and those from the hot extract with 0.40-0.72 as Flavanoids and those from methanolic extracts with 0.23, 0.44 and 0.71 as for Terpenoids. Anti-bacterial study revealed out the fact of Oedogonium species could give higher inhibition to gram-positive than for gram-negative bacteria at (10 μg/10μl/disc) concentration. No symptoms of systemic toxicity and mortality were observed. Silver sulfadiazine, more potent in wound closure, the effect of methanolic extracts of O. intermedium (87 %) was almost at par to the standard (95 %) in action and significantly greater than O. globosum (72 %, P<0.05).
Conclusion: Admittedly, Oedogonium type algal species can be known as medicinal algae with a plethora of a wide range of pharmacological activities. Thus, this research work may be considered further for extensive innovative discoveries of new lead molecules and any other pharmacological activities, in the future
