Endo-Perio Lesions and Dentists’ Treatment Approach: A Survey
Background: Endo-perio lesions are a great challenge for dentists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment approach of dental practitioners to endo-perio lesions by considering the current endo-perio classification. Material/Methods: An online survey was prepared, consisting of questions about the treatment approach to 3 simulated cases with endo-perio lesions, shown on periapical radiography. Details of the patient’s age, presence of systemic disease, smoking, and how the single- or multi-rooted tooth would affect the treatment plan were also included in the simulated cases presented in the survey. The survey was sent to 1500 dentists via e-mail, WhatsApp, and social media platforms. The chi-square test was used for comparison of data. Significance was evaluated at P<0.05. Results: In total, 338 dentists participated in the survey, including general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists. Fifty-three percent of participants stated that they would perform root canal treatment and initial periodontal treatment simultaneously, when both treatments were required. In cases classified as grade 3, most general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists answered that they would prescribe systemic antibiotics if there was diffuse extra-oral swelling (P<0.05). Moreover, in grade 3 cases, more general dentists chose the option \"extraction\" as the best choice, compared with endodontists and periodontists, who did not choose extraction as often (P<0.05). Conclusions: According to the results of this study, general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists generally follow different approaches to endo-perio lesions. A consensus is needed on this issue to develop a successful multidisciplinary approach to endo-perio lesions
PERAWATAN GIGI DENGAN KELAINAN ENDO-PERIO
Endo-perio lesion could occur due to the close relationship between the pulp and the periodontium. Therefore, pulpal lesion could cause a periodontium lesion. To decide on an appropriate diagnosis, a thorough and careful examination needs to be done in order to determine the right treatment. Most of the endo-perio cases should be approached with a root canal treatment because the source of the lesion is in the canal, and there is a possibility of healing of the periapical and periodontal ligament without surgical intervention. A report of a healing of an endo-perio case without surgical approach will be discussed.</p
Oxidation of erythrocytes enhance the production of reactive species in the presence of artemisinins
In red blood cells, hemoglobin iron represents the most plausible candidate to catalyze artemisinin activation but the limited reactivity of iron bound to hemoglobin does not play in favor for its direct involvement. Denatured hemoglobin appears a more likely candidate for artemisinin redox activation because it is expected to contain reactive iron and it has been described to release free heme and/or iron in erythrocyte. The aim of our study is to investigate, using three different methods: fluorescence, electron paramagnetic resonance and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, how increasing the level of accessible iron into the red blood cells can enhance the reactive oxygen species (ROS) production derived from artemisinin. The over-increase of iron was achieved using phenylhydrazine, a strong oxidant that causes oxidative stress within erythrocytes, resulting in oxidation of oxyhemoglobin and leading to the formation of methemoglobin, which is subsequently converted into irreversible hemichromes (iron (III) compounds). Our findings confirmed, using the iron III chelator, desferrioxamine, the indirect participation of iron (III) compounds in the activation process of artemisinins. Furthermore, in strong reducing conditions, the activation of artemisinin and the consequent production of ROS was enhanced. In conclusion, we demonstrate, through the measurement of intra-erythrocytic superoxide and hydrogen peroxide production using various methods, that artemisinin activation can be drastically enhanced by pre-oxidation of erythrocytes
ENDO-PERIO LESION: A CASE REPORT
The pulp and periodontium have embryonic, anatomic and functional interrelationships. The simultaneous existence of pulpal problems and inflammatory periodontal disease can complicate diagnosis and treatment planning. This case report evaluates the efficacy of G-Bone graft in the management of vertical bone loss associated with an endo-perio lesion in a left mandibular first molar and second molar. A 40 year-old male patient with an endo-perio lesion in the left mandibular first and second molars was initially treated with endodontic therapy. Following the endodontic treatment, the defect was treated using G-Bone graft. At the end of 6 months, there was a gain in the clinical attachment level and reduction in probing depth. Radiographic evidence showed that there was a significant bony fill.

Gingival Crevicular Fluid and Placental Tissue Levels of Interleukin-17 as a Possible Marker for Preterm Labor in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis
Background: The present study was conducted to evaluate the levels of interleukin (IL)-17 in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and placental tissue samples of pregnant females as a possible marker in determining whether or not an association exists between chronic periodontitis and preterm labor. Methods: This case-control study included a random sample of 40 female patients, aged 18 to 35 years, who were assigned to one of the following four groups (10 subjects each): group 1 included patients who underwent spontaneous preterm birth (PB) and were diagnosed with chronic periodontitis upon clinical examination (preterm/periodontitis); group 2 included patients who underwent spontaneous PB and who had a healthy periodontium upon clinical examination (preterm/healthy periodontium); group 3 included patients who underwent spontaneous normal term birth and were diagnosed with chronic periodontitis upon clinical examination (term/periodontitis); and group 4 included patients who underwent spontaneous normal term birth and who had a healthy periodontium upon clinical examination (term/healthy periodontium). GCF and placental tissue samples were obtained from each patient and IL-17 levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: GCF levels of IL-17 were significantly higher (P=0.010) in patients with chronic periodontitis compared to those with a healthy periodontium. No significant differences were observed in IL-17 levels in placental tissue samples of all study groups. Conclusion: An association between chronic periodontitis and preterm labor could not be established based on IL-17 levels measured in the present study

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Combined endodontic and periodontic lesions are common in dental practice. Endo-perio lesions are lesions due to inflammatory products found in the pulp and periodontal tissues simultaneously. The involvement of inflammatory periodontal disease and pulpal problems can complicate diagnosis and treatment planning. Endodontic-periodontic lesions can be treated non-surgically. This case report was aimed to show the successful treatment of endodontic-periodontic lesions on tooth 11 with 3rd degree of mobility. Case Report: A 40 years old female with chronic generalized periodontitis followed by endodontic-periodontic lesion on upper anterior tooth worsened by plaque and calculus. She received initial periodontal treatment with adequate endodontic treatment and usage of local antimicrobial metronidazole gel. The initial periodontal treatment consists of plaque control, scaling and root planning, occlusal adjustment, intra coronal splinting with Fibre-Reinforced Composite (FRC), and antimicrobial therapy, then followed by endodontic treatment. After 2 years of treatment, a significant amount of bone fill of the treated tooth and pocket depth reduction can be observed on the patient. Conclusion: Successful treatment of endodontic-periodontic lesion can be achieved by adequate comprehensive initial periodontal and endodontic treatment.

Effect of Bone Marrow-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Nanoscaffold on Wound Healing in Irradiated Rats
Background: The effect of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and nanoscaffolds were evaluated in enhancing wound healing in irradiated albino rats. Methods: Sixty-four male rats were subjected to 6 grays (Gy) of gamma (γ)-rays. Surgical wounds were created on the rats’ backs and they were randomly assigned to one of four groups (16 each); these were an irradiated control group, which did not receive treatment, an NS group treated with a nanoscaffold, a BM-MSC group injected subcutaneously with 1 million BM-MSCs, and a combination BM-MSC+NS group treated with BM-MSCs and a nanoscaffold. Wound healing was measured clinically and histologically. Results: The greatest reduction of anteroposterior wound dimensions was recorded in the BM-MSC+NS group (-69.79 ±19.27), followed by the NS group (-61.12 ±17.32), then the BM-MSC group (-43.89 ±20.04), and the least decrease was observed in the control group (-16.69 ±12.18) (p = 0.001). Meanwhile, the greatest reduction of lateral wound dimensions was recorded in the NS group (-60.41 ±11.80), followed by the BM-MSC+NS group (-45.23 ±62.82), then the BM-MSC group (-41.07 ±24.78), with the control group demonstrating the least reduction (-16.49 ±20.90) (p = 0.008). Histologically, the combination group demonstrated the best healing results compared to the other groups. Conclusion: Nanoscaffolds and/or BM-MSC transplantation improved wound healing and regeneration in irradiated rats, providing possible therapeutic strategies for delayed wound healing during radiotherapy
Structure de précipités stables dans le fluorure de lithium « dopé » au nickel
In LiF crystals heavily doped with Ni⁺⁺, monocrystalline clusters were observed with the same orientation as the matrix and with a parameter approximatively twice as large.
