The Effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Nigeria’s Economy and Possible Coping Strategies
Get PDFThe world has been shocked by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and no country is spared of the effects of the pandemic. However, the effects and strategies to cope with the effects of the pandemic might vary from one country to another. The purpose of this article, therefore, is to identify and discuss the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Nigeria’s economy and possible coping strategies. In addition to the viewpoint of the author, this paper undertook a review of the related literature regarding the Covid-19 pandemic and how Nigerians and the Nigerian government can cope with the effects of the pandemic. The review reveals that the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria include jobs losses, a sharp drop in income of the informal workers and the poor, food insecurity, business and school closures, a steep decline in oil revenues and economic uncertainties. This paper has recommended some measures to be adopted by Nigerians and the Nigerian government in order to cope with the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and similar pandemics in future. The measures include monetary and fiscal policy measures, diversification of the economy through agriculture, revamping of the manufacturing sector, acquisition of relevant ICT skills, adoption of e-learning model by schools, adoption of e-business model by business organizations and the need to have multiple sources of income

No full textDrawing on insights from the theory of planned behaviour and social cognitive career theory, this study empirically examines the serial mediating effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) and entrepreneurial attitude on the relationship between entrepreneurship education (EE) and entrepreneurial intentions (EIs). This study adopted a quantitative approach and survey research design. Data were collected from 248 engineering students in the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State, Nigeria, using a self-reported questionnaire. The study performed serial mediation analysis using the Hayes-PROCESS Macro. Findings show that EE enhances students\u27 ESE, entrepreneurial attitude and EIs. Results also indicate that ESE and entrepreneurial attitude individually and sequentially mediate the association between EE and EIs. The study concludes that ESE and entrepreneurial attitude are mechanisms through which EE positively affects EIs. The results have implications for EE curriculum developers.

Entrepreneurial orientation and performance of Nigerian banks: The mediating effect of teamwork
Get PDFBusiness environment has become highly competitive, dynamic, and heterogenic.As a result, business organizations are expected to be inclined. Also, for corporate entrepreneurial activities to have greater impact on organizational performance, organizational members (employees) must work collaboratively as a team. It is against this background that this study investigated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and performance of commercial banks in Nigeria and the mediating effect of teamwork on the relationship. Data were collected from 297 bank managers through a self reported questionnaire.SmartPLS-SEM was used to analyse the data collected and test the hypotheses formulated.The results of the structural model indicated a positive and significant relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and performance.Further evaluation of the structural model showed that teamwork fully mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and organizational performance. Based on the findings, it was concluded that while entrepreneurial orientation may be positively related to organizational performance, its impact on organizational performance will be greater if employees work collaboratively as a team
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
