    Online Assessment in the Subject of Applied Mathematics as one of the Instruments during the Formative Assessment

    Taking assessments these days doesn't have to be stressful as technology has revolutionized the entire education system. Assessments are the most important part of the applied mathematics course, as they give students an accurate background of where they stand. It acts as a catalyst and positive reinforcer for students encouraging them to perform better. Most importantly, teaching and assessing students are two actions that should not be confined within the walls of a classroom but can be done anytime, anywhere with the help of technology. Therefore, in this study we have tried to analyze an assessment process developed through online tests in the subject of applied mathematics, as one of the instruments of formative assessment. To formalize this study, it was decided to use quantitative research methodology as a research strategy. The sample number was 110 students and it was a purposive sample. The empirical data collected during this research study involved a variety of data collection techniques. The methods used consist of questionnaires. The results from this research are important because online assessment is one of the formative assessment tools needed for students. The conclusion from this study is that students enjoyed taking online tests in the subject of applied mathematics. Therefore, the online assessment had a great positive impact on the formative assessment process in this subject. This paper has shown that online assessment as one of the instruments used in the formative assessment process affects the appearance of special assessment strategies in the subject of applied mathematics

    Finding the Shortest Route for Kosovo Cities Through Dijkstra's Algorithm

    Kosovo is a beautiful country with a strong cultural heritage which has a very rich nature. Kosovo is not only mountainous, but also has scenic views and other attractions of high cultural importance. Although a small country, Kosovo has many destinations to see and visit. Therefore, to visit these cities we try to choose the shortest route between these locations. But this is probably very difficult to do manually. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to find the shortest path between the two cities of the Republic of Kosovo through Dijkstra’s algorithm. The mentioned cities are in both ends of the country, where the starting point is the city of Gjakova and the destination is the city of Gjilan. Dijkstra's Algorithm basically starts at the node that you choose and it analyzes the graph to find the shortest path between that node and all the other nodes in the graph. The results of this study showed the importance of Dijkstra's Algorithm, where by measuring the road distance through Google Maps, we came to the conclusion in calculating the shortest route between these cities

    Robô Mbot como parte da Aprendizagem Baseada em Projetos em STEM

    Students of modern times are learning fast and passionately. They love the interactivity and are very interested in science. Robotics can be safely assigned as engineering for students. This is the first step toward disciplines such as programming, mathematics, science, and algorithms. Thus, the objective of the study is to investigate the feasibility of implementing robotics in our educational system to develop learning in STEM subjects. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mBot robot activities in STEM subjects as part of project-based learning, to determine their satisfaction and perceptions of the project carried out. The methodology used for this research is the descriptive study model, which combines qualitative and quantitative research methods. The selected sample of 14 students was a purposive sample, since the participants were the students who had implemented the robotics competition project. Quantitative data is collected from questionnaires, while qualitative data is generated from open-ended survey questions. From the results of this study, it has been shown that the integration of the mBot robot into the educational system will undoubtedly increase the effectiveness of teaching and learning STEM education. Also, it was found that the level of students\u27 creativity, attitude, and motivation increased with the inclusion of the mBot robot during project-based learning in STEM.Os estudantes dos tempos modernos estão aprendendo com rapidez e paixão. Eles adoram a interatividade e se interessam muito por ciências. A robótica pode ser designada com segurança como engenharia para estudantes. Este é o primeiro passo em direção a disciplinas como programação, matemática, ciências e algoritmos. Assim, o objetivo do estudo é investigar a viabilidade de implementação da robótica em nosso sistema educacional para desenvolver a aprendizagem em disciplinas STEM. O objetivo principal deste estudo foi investigar o efeito das atividades do robô mBot em disciplinas STEM como parte da aprendizagem baseada em projetos, para determinar sua satisfação e percepções do projeto realizado. A metodologia utilizada para esta pesquisa é o modelo de estudo descritivo, que combina métodos de pesquisa qualitativos e quantitativos. A amostra selecionada de 14 alunos foi uma amostra proposital, uma vez que os participantes foram os alunos que implementaram o projeto de competição de robótica. Os dados quantitativos são recolhidos a partir de questionários, enquanto os dados qualitativos são gerados a partir de perguntas abertas do inquérito. A partir dos resultados deste estudo, foi demonstrado que a integração do robô mBot no sistema educacional aumentará, sem dúvida, a eficácia do ensino e da aprendizagem da educação STEM. Além disso, constatou-se que o nível de criatividade, atitude e motivação dos alunos aumentou com a inclusão do robô mBot durante a aprendizagem baseada em projetos em STEM

    Geometric patterns in Albanian carpets: An ethnomathematical approach to cultural heritage and mathematics education

    This study examines the geometric patterns woven into traditional Albanian carpets from an ethnomathematics perspective, with the aim of uncovering the interplay between mathematics and cultural heritage. The use of symmetrical shapes, rhythmic repetitions, and geometric compositions in carpet motifs attests to an innate mathematical knowledge, developed and transmitted from generation to generation through oral tradition and artisanal practice. The analysis relies on visual documentation and measurement of decorative elements from different regional samples, highlighting features such as axial and rotational symmetry, proportional ratios, and simple fractal structures. The results show that Albanian artisans have intuitively applied advanced mathematical principles, which serve not only for aesthetic purposes but also to preserve cultural identity and stylistic coherence. By documenting these geometric structures, this research contributes to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in the face of globalization and industrialization. Furthermore, the findings provide a foundation for integrating artistic heritage into mathematics education, fostering meaningful connections between culture and science while enabling future generations to appreciate and preserve this rich tradition. This study enriches the ethnomathematics literature and demonstrates how cultural artifacts can serve as bridges between past knowledge and contemporary educational practice, ensuring the continuity of heritage for the future

    Area Calculation using Measure (iPad and iPhone App)

    Mobile applications are rapidly growing in importance and can be used for various purposes. They are now widely used in education. One of the educational purposes for which mobile applications can be used is to calculate the exact result of surface area. This research aims to study the relationships between behavioral factors and the perceived usefulness of using the Measure mobile application in calculating polygonal surfaces. Also, the purpose of the research is to investigate the performance, satisfaction, and perceived behavior of the students while using this application. The methodology of the study is the observation method. The sample of the study includes 50 students from the primary and lower secondary school "Heronjtë e Lumës" Vërmica /Prizren, and from the primary and lower secondary school "Zef Lush Marku" Velezha/Prizren from the Republic of Kosovo. For data collection, the observation list with three sections of 10 indicators is the main instrument. The results of this study show that the use of the Measure mobile application in learning mathematics for students using the application helped to increase student achievement and success. Also, the application was considered satisfactory and promoted a significant increase in students\u27 knowledge, being appropriate for its intended use

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
