Salami slicing and other kinds of scientific misconduct: A faux pas for the author, a disaster for science
As part of the research project “Summa cum fraude – Wissenschaftliches Fehlverhalten und der Versuch einer Gegenoffensive” at Saarland University (funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG) an interview with Ivan Oransky in October 2022 was conducted. He became well-known for co-founding the Retraction Watch Database and the Retraction Watch blog, which covers topics such as retracting published articles or exposing misconduct in science.

Retractions, Post-Publication Peer Review and Fraud: Scientific Publishing's Wild West
Presentation given on October 27, 2016 at Data Reproducibility: Integrity and Transparency program as part of Open Access Week 2016.Ivan Oransky and Adam Marcus founded Retraction Watch in 2010. Unbeknownst to them, retractions had grown ten-fold in the previous decade. Oransky will discuss the reasons for that increase, whether fraud is on the rise, the growth of post-publication peer review, and other trends he and Marcus have seen as they've built a site that is now viewed by 150,000 people per month, and funded by philanthropies including the MacArthur and Arnold Foundations
Retraction Watch
Launched in 2010 by science writers Ivan Oransky and Adam Marcus, Retraction Watch seeks to make public the "self-correcting" nature of science. The site has been praised for bringing to light many hundreds of retracted papers in a wide variety of fields, some due to fraud, others just to mistakes in experiments or the publishing process. A great place to start is with the latest retractions, listed in chronological order on the homepage. For instance, recent retracted papers at the time this writing concerned plagiarism in the field of aeronautic dentistry, a paper on wheat straw that seems to have been published (and retracted) more than once, and even a letter to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, written by an impersonator. The site also contains a useful search function for readers who are looking for specific topics, authors, or articles
The new watchdogs’ vision of science: A roundtable with Ivan Oransky (<i>Retraction Watch</i>) and Brandon Stell (<i>PubPeer</i>)
On March 3rd, 2016, the authors of this note hosted a conference entitled ‘Destabilized Science’ at the University of California, Los Angeles, to which we invited two representatives of core actors within the new science watchdog pack: Ivan Oransky, co-founder in 2010 of Retraction Watch, and Brandon Stell, co-founder in 2012 of PubPeer. After the formal conference, we organized a roundtable to discuss these invitees’ experience and their vision of contemporary science. Mario Biagioli (University of California, Davis), Michael Chwe (UCLA) and Aaron Panofsky (UCLA) participated to the conversation. An edited transcript of the discussion and a short podcast version are being published on Transmissions ( ssstransmissions.org ) the new blog associated with Social Studies of Science. </jats:p
Yuriy Hryvniak as a researcher of the biography of Ivan Puluj
These theses are devoted to the study of the pages of Yuriy
Hryvniak’s biography. He was the author of a monograph dedicated to the study
of the life and activities of the famous Ukrainian scientist and public figure Ivan
Puluj. The author used a number of photos and archival materials received from
O. Puluj. Unfortunately, the creativity and life path of Y. Hryvniak is little
known in Ukraine, and the fate of the sources collected by him requires

Ivan Žuvela Šabo and His Etnographic Record from 1892
This text reveals the identity of the hitherto unknown author one of the oldest known ethnographic record from the island of Korčula. The manuscript titled “Narodne pjesme junačke i žetelačke” (Folk Songs of Heroes and Harvesters) dates back to 1892 and is preserved in the Archive of the Ethnology Division at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb. Although the author of the manuscript is signed as “Ivan Žuvela, legal scholar,” his precise identification has remained elusive, with incorrect assumptions and even speculation about a possible pseudonym. Through research of available sources and newspaper records, it has now been conclusively determined that the author is indeed Ivan Žuvela from Vela Luka, a member of the Šabo family, and a law student who passed away at the age of 23, just a year after creating this manuscript. In addition to introducing the author, this text provides a detailed exploration of the manuscript and its exceptional significance for studying the everyday life of the past, particularly the harvesting customs on the western part of the island of Korčula

The chapter summarizes and debates Emeritus prof. Ivan Snehota's studies since his Ph.D thesis. Following such an analysis the author suggests future research directions on the topic of business networks
