De zussen Loes en Suze Susan zaten als jonge kinderen afzonderlijk van elkaar ondergedoken in Utrecht tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Politieman Adriaan Smorenburg en zijn vrouw boden Loes ruim twee jaar onderdak, van februari 1943 tot oktober 1945.
Het interview vond plaats als onderdeel van het onderzoek naar de broers en politieagenten Jan en Adriaan Smorenburg voor de masterscriptie Een schuivende moraal, voltooid oktober 2020.

No full textToenemende mondialisering en liberalisatie zijn er oorzaken van dat financiële markten steeds complexer geworden. Financiële schokken worden bovendien steeds sneller doorgegeven van de ene aan de andere partij. Dit alles maakt de taak van bancaire toezichthouders moeilijker. Het proefschrift van Sander Oosterloo richt zich op de vraag welke rol centrale banken hebben bij het hoeden van financiële stabiliteit. Ook vroeg hij zich af of de integratie van de Europese bancaire markt tot gevolg heeft dat de huidige toezichtstructuur moet worden herzien. Het proefschrift laat zien dat er niet overal dezelfde invulling wordt gegeven aan de financiële stabiliteitsfunctie van centrale banken. Daarnaast komt Oosterloo tot de slotsom dat bancaire toezichthouders als gevolg van de toenemende integratie op termijn binnen een Europees Stelsel van Financiële Toezichthouders moeten gaan opereren

The Cold Gaseous Halo of NGC 891
No full textWe present H I observations of the edge-on galaxy NGC 891. These are among the deepest ever performed on an external galaxy. They reveal a huge gaseous halo, much more extended than seen previously and containing almost 30% of the H I. This H I halo shows structures on various scales. On one side, there is a filament extending (in projection) up to 22 kpc vertically from the disk. Small (M gtrsim 106 Modot) halo clouds, some with forbidden (apparently counterrotating) velocities, are also detected. The overall kinematics of the halo gas is characterized by differential rotation lagging with respect to that of the disk. The lag, more pronounced at small radii, increases with height from the plane. There is evidence that a significant fraction of the halo is due to a galactic fountain. Accretion from intergalactic space may also play a role in building up the halo and providing the low angular momentum material needed to account for the observed rotation lag. The long H I filament and the counterrotating clouds may be direct evidence of such accretion

No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
