Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Personal attributes influencing school burnout among graduating students
No full textThe study examined the strength of personal attributes and demographics in predicting school burnout among graduating students. The research was a survey which adopted a cross-sectional design. Three hundred participants comprising 143 male and 157 female graduating students were purposively sampled using simple balloting. The sample was selected from five academic faculties in a public university in southwest Nigeria. Questionnaires administered on participants contained scales that measured school burnout, academic self-efficacy, perception of teacher support, sex and age. The study predicted that personal attributes and demographics will significantly influence school burnout. The hypothesis was confirmed as predicted as result showed significant joint influence of academic self-efficacy, perception of teacher support, sex and age on school burnout. Academic self-efficacy had significant independent contribution to school burnout, while the contribution of other factors was not significant. The study concludes that academic self-efficacy is the main predictor of school burnout in the sample surveyed. The finding implied that self-efficacy should be emphasized more in school burnout management. In other words, school burnout prevention, treatment and intervention should incorporate specialized training to enhance academic self-efficacy among graduating students
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Rational design of antirheumatic prodrugs specific for sites of inflammation
No full textBiologic drugs, such as the anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) antibody adalimumab, have represented a breakthrough in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Yet, concerns remain over their lack of efficacy in a sizable proportion of patients and their potential for systemic side effects such as infection. Improved biologic prodrugs specifically targeted to the site of inflammation have the potential to alleviate current concerns surrounding biologic anticytokine therapies. The role of Institutional Repositories in making lost or hidden cultures accessible, a study across four African University Libraries (2018) and was authored by Andrew Watson Malekani and George Kavishe.

The published paper was a mini project carried out by the four of us (as detailed above), as part of a Carnegie CPD programme organized by the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2017. We later found out this year that the paper has been published by our group member Andrew Malekani without consulting or adding the original authors’ names and instead decided to add George Kavishe who never participated in the CPD under reference and therefore could not have been a co-author.
As the original authors of that project we kindly request that you withdraw the article and effect the necessary changes by removing George Kavishe’s name and replacing it with ours in the following order: Asiedu, N.K., Chikafa, M.W., Michael-Onuoha, H. & Malekani, A.W.
