    No full text
Effective leadership is one of the most essential aspects that lead to the success of an organisation, particularly in multinational corporations where multicultural working teams and high-risk environments require adaptability in leadership styles. The effect of personality traits on leadership styles in selected multinational corporations in Nigeria was is examined in this present study to bridge the gap in knowledge on the effectiveness of a leader in complex business environments. This study adopts the quantitative research methodology, and data were collected from 398 employees through a structured questionnaire using an online Google form. Using the regression analysis, this research confirmed that leadership styles and personality traits are statistically significant but with a weak connection (R = 0.276, R² = 0.076, p = 0.000), as only 7.6% of leadership style can be attributed to personality traits. ANOVA analysis also indicated that personality factors significantly influenced democratic leadership (p = 0.001), laissez-faire leadership (p = 0.017), and transformational leadership (p = 0.000) but not autocratic leadership (p = 0.094). This suggests that it is a combination of situational and personal factors that influence the effectiveness of a leader, which supports the contingency theory of leadership. This study is a contribution to leadership literature in highlighting the limited predictive power of personality traits and the need for organisations to adopt contextual and adaptive models of leadership development

Objective: This study aims to investigate the impact of collective bargaining on the welfare of academic staff in federal universities located in South West Nigeria, focusing on six selected institutions.   Theoretical Framework: The research is framed within the context of labour relations theory, exploring how collective bargaining as a mechanism influences various welfare dimensions of academic staff.   Method: A quantitative research approach was adopted, utilizing a descriptive research design. The study's population comprised academic staff from the six universities, with a sample size of 377 participants determined through the Taro Yamane formula. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analysed using statistical techniques to assess the relationship between collective bargaining and staff welfare.   Results and Discussion: The results indicate a significant negative impact of collective bargaining on academic staff welfare (β=-0.494, p<0.05). Contrary to its purpose, collective bargaining has not adequately addressed welfare issues, potentially worsening existing challenges faced by academic staff in the studied universities. The discussion emphasizes the need for improved bargaining strategies to promote staff well-being.   Research Implications: The study's findings highlight the importance of developing more effective and collaborative collective bargaining processes. These are critical for enhancing welfare outcomes and addressing systemic challenges within federal universities.   Originality/Value: This research contributes to the literature on collective bargaining by providing empirical evidence from the Nigerian higher education sector, revealing its counterproductive effects on academic staff welfare. It offers practical insights for policymakers and unions in designing more strategic negotiation frameworks

Introduction: Health status of an individual in paid employment is a function of many factors such as workplace settings, furniture, work design and tools used at work, among others. Based on this position, this study examined how work-related musculoskeletal disorders through workplace ergonomics determine non-teaching staff healthy living, and how each of the selected work-related musculoskeletal disorders caused by defective workplace ergonomics contributes to healthy living. Methods: This study was conducted among the non-teaching staff of selected public universities in south west Nigeria through quantitative approach that made use of descriptive research design with the use of structured questionnaire administered to collect data and both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze data collected. Results: The study revealed that specific work-related musculoskeletal disorders caused by defective workplace ergonomics were of negative effect on non-teaching staff healthy living while others were not. Also, specific work-related musculoskeletal disorders (back pains and eyes dysfunctionality) examined against non-teaching staff healthy living were found to be detrimental to their health status while muscular pains, fracture, neck injuries, hand-arm vibration and bruises were of insignificant effect on the non-teaching staff healthy living. Conclusion: The study concludes that work-related musculoskeletal disorders through workplace ergonomics is an issue that management of universities should be mindful of to ensure staff healthy living as this is critical to job performance
