Grass pollen allergy
<b>The allergen sources</b>\ud
\ud
Grasses are ubiquitous throughout the entire world. In places with a temperate climate, members of the Pooideae subfamily (1) like Timothy grass (<i>Phleum pratense</i>), Orchard grass (<i>Dactylis glomerata</i>), Perennial ryegrass (<i>Lolium perenne</i>), and bluegrass (<i>Poa pratensis</i>) are the most common pollen sources. The pollen of this Pooideae subfamily shows extensive IgE cross-reactivity. Grasses have a pollinating season from May to August in Central Europe, peaking in June..
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The impact of the cytokine TNFα on allergen-specific immunotherapy in a murine model
The only curative treatment of type-I-allergy is allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT); therefore, recent research has focused on improving the outcome of this therapy. This thesis investigated the impact of the cytokine TNFα on allergen-specific immunotherapy in a murine model. TNFα was blocked by an anti-TNFα-antibody. After bronchoalveolar lavage, cells were counted and differentiated. Cytokine levels were determined, and serum antibodies were measured. The first trial showed a general trend towards impaired efficiency of ASIT in the absence of TNFα. This tendency could not be confirmed in the following trials, most likely due to experimental details resulting in the insufficient blockade of TNFα
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
component-resolved diagnosis in patients with mastocytosis and hymenoptera venom allergy
Severe anaphylactic reactions caused by hymenoptera venom allergy may be associated with mastocytosis and/or elevation of serum baseline tryptase. A component-resolved sIgE sensitization pattern was analyzed in 53 patients by appliying a panel of yellow jacket und honeybee venom allergens on the IgE immunoassay platform Immulite2000. Although the IgE reactivity to the recombinant allergens was found with similar frequencies in patients with and without mastocytosis/elevation of sBT the combination of using recombinant allergens and a diagnostic cuf-off of 0.1kU/L allowed the diagnosis of patients with undetectable IgE to venom extract
Sequential combination therapy using selective immunoglobulin apheresis and omalizumab in patients with severe atopic dermatitis and elevated IgE levels - a pilot study.
The key-role of IgE in the pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis allows the assumption, that the monoclonal IgE-antibody omalizumab, which is already used in the therapy of severe allergic asthma, has a therapeutic effect in this atopic disease, too. The extremely elevated IgE-levels in patients with atopic dermatitis make the application of an optimal dosage impossible. In this pilot study 10 patients with severe atopic dermatitis were treated with Ig-apheresis to decrease the IgE-concentration as far as possible, followed by a long-term therapy with omalizumab to keep the IgE on a low level. The results were a significant improvement of the skin and the subjective well-being showing a significant correlation with the concentration of free (not binded by omalizumab) IgE
Sequential combination therapy using selective immunoglobulin apheresis and omalizumab in patients with severe atopic dermatitis and elevated total IgE levels - a pilot study.
For decades, a role of immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD) has been discussed and therefore an anti-IgE therapy investigated. In this study, a pilot study for a sequential anti-IgE therapy concept combining immunoadsorption (IA) and omalizumab (OMZ) was designed, realized and evaluated. 10 patients with severe and therapy resistant AD and elevated IgE levels were treated with IA followed by an OMZ injection on a regular basis. In all patients, a drop of IgE levels as well as an clinical improvement of the AD was shown during this treatment. At the same time, also the severity of pruritus as well as the usage of topical drugs were seen to continuously decrease during the observed period of study. This suggests, that the combination of IA and OMZ is suitable to reduce elevated se-rum IgE levels and seems to improve clinical symptoms of AD
