No full textStudent editor Patrick Sheppard sits down with Professor Olga Koubrak of the Schulich School of Law to discuss her work on the legal frameworks to protect sawfish in the Caribbean. Olga is the author of a 2018 paper titled “A Future for a Forgotten Predator: An Assessment of International Legal Frameworks for Protection and Recovery of the Caribbean Sawfishes,” and co-author of the more recent 2022 article titled “Strengthening Marine Species Protections in Cuba: A Case Study on the Critically Endangered Smalltooth Sawfish.” Patrick and Olga discuss the sawfish, means of protecting the animal domestically and internationally, problems in enforcement and international cooperation, and how the public perception of an animal affects how it is protected by authorities. Get PDFTämä opinnäytetyö tutki paikallisen taidemarkkinan rakennetta ja toiminnallisuutta Turun alueella kahden tapausyrityksen kanssa (Kivikoi ja Olga Katariina). Työn tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten paikallinen taidemarkkina toimii tällä hetkellä, millaisia haasteita siihen liittyy ja miten tapausyritykset voivat asemoitua markkinassa strategisesti vahvemmin. Tutkimuksen lopputulos pyrki kaventamaan kuilua taiteellisen osaamisen ja liiketoimintaosaamisen välillä.
Tutkimusmenetelminä käytettiin laadullisen tutkimuksen työkaluja. Aineisto kerättiin puolistrukturoiduilla haastatteluilla, joihin osallistui 25 taiteen alan sidosryhmän edustajaa. Aineisto analysoitiin käyttäen teemakoodausta, SWOT-analyysiä, Disney-menetelmää ja PESTLE-analyysiä. Tulosten validointia vahvistettiin triangulaatiolla tekoälyn kanssa. Tutkimuksen tuloksia havainnollistettiin visuaalisesti muun muassa sanapilvillä ja Venn-diagrammilla.
Tulokset osoittivat, että taidemarkkinalla on kaksijakoinen rakenne, jossa digitaalisesti toimivat matalan kynnyksen kanavat ja institutionaalisesti ohjattu huipputaso toimivat rinnakkain. Tapausyritykset hyötyvät asiakastiedon hyödyntämisestä ja strategisesta positioinnista. Työn pohjalta kootaan konkreettinen työkirja luoville yrittäjille liiketoiminnan kehittämisen, strategisen positioinnin ja asiakasymmärryksen tueksi. Työkirja julkaistaan verkossa opinnäytetyön valmistumisen jälkeen vuoden 2025 aikana.This thesis examined the structure and functioning of the local art market in the Turku region through two case companies: Kivikoi and Olga Katariina. The aim was to understand how the local art market currently operates, what challenges it presents, and how the case companies could position themselves more strategically within it. The ultimate objective was to bridge the gap between artistic expertise and business competence.
The research employed qualitative methods. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 25 stakeholders from the art sector. The material was analyzed using thematic coding, SWOT analysis, the Disney Method, and PESTLE analysis. To enhance the validity of the findings, triangulation was conducted with the support of artificial intelligence. The results were also visualized using tools such as word clouds and a Venn diagram.
The findings revealed a dual-structured market, where low-threshold digital channels and institutionally guided top-tier operations coexist. Companies benefit from utilizing customer insights and engaging in strategic positioning. Based on this thesis, a practical toolkit will be compiled to support creative entrepreneurs in business development, strategic positioning, and customer understanding. The workbook will be published online after the thesis completion during 2025
