No full textCome lo stesso titolo mette in luce, Dalla danza al teatro (e viceversa) ambisce a mostrare come il teatro possa ispirarsi ad alcuni spettacoli coreici, inseguendo una via poco indagata dagli studi di settore. In altri termini, lo studio, i cui margini temporali abbracciano la prima metà dell’Ottocento, vuole sottolineare la reciproca influenza fra teatro e danza, assunta come filo rosso di collegamento tra i tre capitoli del lavoro. L’elemento che principalmente connette i due ambiti è il muto linguaggio mimico, di cui entrambi si servono. L’analisi dei tre casi studio scelti per indagare questo tema – Prometeo, Mirra e Otello – schiude un panorama variegato in cui i rapporti fra le due forme artistiche si intrecciano in modi talvolta inaspettati

No full textGasparo Angiolini (1731-1803) è stato uno dei massimi esponenti del ballo pantomimo europeo della seconda metà del Settecento. La sua poetica si plasma a Vienna, prima, e in Italia, poi, a contatto con la scena. All’interno dei libretti dei suoi balli, sia viennesi che italiani, si trovano spesso dichiarazioni di poetica e importanti indicazioni che anticipano, in alcuni casi, avvalorano e ampliano i contenuti dei suoi testi teorici. Attraverso queste preziose fonti è possibile verificare come le concezioni esposte nei lavori di natura più espressamente speculativa trovino applicazione pratica: dagli avvisi presenti all’interno di questi testi possiamo scoprire come una visione mentale prenda corpo, mentre dai programmi possiamo intuire, o talvolta solo ipotizzare, come Angiolini proceda alla messa in scena dei suoi lavori. La convinzione che tali fonti siano utili per verificare in che modo le concezioni teoriche trovino la loro attuazione pratica ha guidato la realizzazione della presente antologia, che raccoglie alcuni dei libretti che riteniamo più significativi a tal riguardo

Get PDFThis work aims to investigate Italian pantomime ballet during the late forty years of the Eighteenth-century. The first part focus his attention on some general issues in order to outline the operating modes of Italian choreographer and to identify some methodological and theoretic questions of fundamental importance. This section is composed by four chapter: the first deal with the use of ballet libretto as a source for the study of pantomime ballet; the second and the third focus their attention on the different components of the dancing performance, exploring firstly the relation between dance and pantomime and then the relation between the others elements of the pantomime ballet. The last chapter of this section deal with the circulation of choreographers and dancers along Italy.
The second part is devoted to the study of four figures which seemed to us representative of the new genre of dance. They are: Onorato Viganò (1739-1811), Antonio Muzzarelli (1744-1810), Giuseppe Canziani (1767-1793) e Francesco Clerico (1773-1835). For every figure we reconstruct the artistic biography in order to analyse some of their most interesting productions.
The thesis include an appendix with the scrutiny of the choreographers’ librettos and the transcription of archives documents and ballet programmes
Structural alignment and analysis of two distantly related proteins: Aplysia limacina myoglobin and sea lamprey globin
No full textTwo new globin structures have recently been determined at high resolution: the globin from the mollusc Aplysia limacina at 1.6 A resolution and a new refinement of the structure from sea lamprey. Two amino acid sequences of these homologous molecules have only 30% residue identity in an optimal alignment. We discuss some of the problems arising in the alignment of Aplysia globin with other globins of known structure, a challenging problem because of the distant relationship. Four independent approaches were applied to the alignment of the Aplysia and lamprey globins, including those based on individual sequence comparisons, structural analysis, and the relatively new method of templates or fingerprints derived for an entire family of proteins. We also compare these two new structures with what is already known about the globin family. A detailed description of the two structures shows that the two molecules contain the main structural features common to all the globins so far studied, with several minor but interesting hitherto unobserved variations

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
