CP violation in Supersymmetry
No full textSupersymmetry exhibts new sources of CP violation. We discuss the implications of these new contributions to CP violation both in the K and B physics. We show that CP violation puts severe constraints on low energy SUSY, but it represents also a promising ground to look for signals of new physics
New physics in CP violation experiments
No full textCP violation plays a privileged role in our quest for new physics beyond the electroweak standard model. In the standard model, the violation of CP in the weak interactions has a single source: the phase of the quark mixing matrix (the CKM matrix, for Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa). Most extensions of the standard model exhibit new sources of CP violation. For instance, the truly minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model has two new phases in addition to the CKM phase. Given that CP violation is so tiny in the kaon system, is still largely unexplored in B physics, and is negligibly small in the electric dipole moments, it is clear that new physics may have a good chance to manifest some departure from the standard model in this particularly challenging class of rare phenomena. On the other hand, it is also apparent that CP violation generally represents a major constraint on any attempt at model building beyond the standard model. A Hull and White formula for a general stochastic volatility jump-diffusion model with applications to the study of the short-time behavior of the implied volatility
No full textIn this paper, generalizing results in Alòs, León and Vives (2007b), we see that the dependence of jumps in the volatility under a jump-diffusion stochastic volatility model, has no effect on the short-time behaviour of the at-the-money implied volatility skew, although the corresponding Hull and White formula depends on the jumps. Juan Luis Vives (1492–1540) in njegov priročnik De institutione feminae Christianae
No full textJuan Luis Vives, considered by his contemporaries as one of the leading thinkers of his time, has been gaining scholarly attention in recent decades, mainly due to the work of researchers such as Carlos Noreña and Charles Fantazzi. The paper reviews his diverse opus and its historical context – the position of Spanish Jews during the Inquisition, the court of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, the Anglican schism. Attention is given to his treatise De institutione feminae Christianae and its connection to the increasingly precarious position of Queen Catherine and Princess Mary. Vives offers several innovations regarding the status of women, some of which were surprisingly liberal for his time. Particularly striking is his emphasis on intellectual abilities; he advocated the then-unusual view that a woman can achieve true virtue through her intellect, learning, and study. The article is accompanied by a Slovenian translation of the entire preface to the text in question, which was dedicated to Queen Catherine.Med humanisti, kot so Tomaž More, Erazem Rotterdamski ter Guillaume Budé, se v poljudnih prikazih redko znajde Juan Luis Vives, čeprav je po njihovem mnenju veljal za vodilnega misleca svojega časa. Toda tudi to se počasi spreminja, po zaslugi nemških raziskovalcev pedagogike in empirične psihologije se je v 19. stoletju zanimanje zanj spet prebudilo in slednjič dobilo podobo v doslej najobsežnejši biografiji, ki jo je leta 1970 objavil Carlos Noreña. Čeprav se še zgodi, da Vives ostane spregledan celo v kateri od preglednih razprav o humanizmu, je v zadnjih desetletjih zanimanje za tega humanista izrazito naraslo. Članek ponuja vpogled v življenje tega humanista, njegov čas in opus. Osrediščen je na vzgojni priročnik za ženske z naslovom De institutione feminae christianae, napisan za hčer takratnega angleškega monarha Henrika VIII. in njegove prve žene Katarine Aragonske
