    Marketing and its narratives

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis is to look at marketing not only as an activity, art or science; but also from the spectrum of different narratives. The three enumerated narratives are profane, sacred and secular. Each of the enumerated narratives is taken separately and examined. This examination underlines a need to formulate a unified marketing narrative.M.A.L.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Dariusz S. Malinowsk

Commercialisation of research results – cooperation between science and business

When analysing the term commercialisation one should answer the crucial question: what mechanisms govern commercialisation of knowledge and technology as well as which resources and sources determine it. The article presents a theoretical deliberation concerning the development of issues related to the commercialisation of research results in the last century. A review of literature precedes the section on sources for the commercialisation of knowledge and technologies when considering research results and technology providers. The author claims that analysis of technological resources also determines the possibilities for the cooperation between science and business. It is important for the selection of the commercialisation strategy to describe technological resources and their complementarity. Strong technological resources and their market availability ensures independent technological development. However, a lack of technological resources or the chance to acquire them encourages an innovative organisation to pass know-how or technologies to another, capable organisation which is willing to commercialise this knowledge on the market. Frequently however when commercialising research results, organisations establish cooperation on the market in order to build resources to implement research results. This article, ‘Commercialisation of research results – cooperation between science and business’, is concluded with an example depicting the cooperation between scientists and business people in a new spin-off company set up in order to build technological resources and the market implementation of a device for measuring the structure of soft material surfaces.Article has been prepared based on Polish National Scientific Agency project - DEC-2011/01/B/HS4/05200. Rozpad - pismo - ocalenie : proza Zbigniewa Kruszyńskiego

The subject of this dissertation is to discuss Zigniew Kruszyński’s output. The paper was designed as a quite complete presentation of the problematic aspects of Kruszyński’s subsequent books although, the main body talks round problematic congeries being at the same time the key words pointed in the title of the paper: disintegration – writing – salvation. The aim of the dissertation is to order and systematise scattered views and opinions about the subject of Zbigniew Kruszyński’s prose and in the first place, presenting own interpretation of this phenomenal work based on belief that there are clear relationships between the condition of the literary words created by the author and the repertory of used rhetorical terms. The primary aim is an attempt to capture the core of the literary project created the author of ‘Alexander’s Return’ – extremely original as well as aesthetically and intellectually sophisticated. The initial chapter contains the general characteristics of Zbigniew Kruszyński’s works, it shows how his novels and stories were placed in the map of Polish prose after 1989, in what contexts it was discussed and how the initial reconnaissance of researchers and critics presented itself. In chapter I (related to the novel Schwedenkräuter, 1995) Anna, who is problematic and intriguing as well as crucial for the interpretation of Zbigniew Kruszyński’s later volumes, is (next to the author) acknowledged as the key character of the writing. The considerance is focused on ambiguous terms: moving, assimilation and rooting, and on the problems of the language used by the author to ‘capture’ disintegrating reality. Chapter II (related to Historical Sketches, 1996) begins the speculations on the subject of the genre type of the second novel in Kruszyński’s output. In the course of interpretation the problem of history/historicity rises – as if it was ‘cancelled’ or ‘suspended’. The key issue of disintegration and merging the life of the main hero of the writing returns. Chapter III (related to the storybook On Lands and Seas, 1999) – brings an attempt of showing the ‘spirit’ of the philosophy present in all the stories – the philosophy determining the whole plot and all the characters’ choices. The result of this philosophy is marginalisation of individuals who experienced the changes very sorely. Anna, the character who tries to merge the disintegrating reality reappears. The subject of a ‘new literature definition’ is also covered (the trace of Kruszyński’s theoreticalliterary interests). In part IV I (related to Alexander’s Return, 2006) all the stories from the volume are analysed however, in the centre of the author’s attention is Alexander – the motives of his actions, hidden intentions (the issue connected with his fake return from emigration to the home country). Behind the illusion of repatriation there are hidden failures of individual characters and the above all, the desire to meet the Other. Chapter V (related to The Last Report, 2009) starts with the contemplation about the subject of the writing. The Last Report only seemingly signs in the political-vetting encounters which were dealt with the most intensively in 2005-2006. The main hero of the novel is not an embodiment of today’s Wallendor and his attachment to the traitors and double agents circle is also doubtful or at least ambiguous. In fact, he is rather a compulsive voyeur, an artist and a graphomaniac, and above all a sensitive human being who tries to save the sense and integrity of the world through the writing. Chapter VI (related to micronovel Curator, 2014) – was composed as a quite vast interpretative draft presenting initial reconnaissance on the subject of the recently published work. On one hand Curator clearly breaks out of Kruszyński’s previous works, maybe it announces the turning point in writing – in order to communicate with less demanding audience. On the other hand however, Curator continuous the subject of disintegrating the reality and the loss of Anna

The paper discusses selected reactions to the Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Olga Tokarczuk. The author focuses on the dispute about the legitimacy and justification of the Swedish Academy’s decision, highlighting the sceptical opinions, in some cases challenging the Academy’s members’ verdict. Referring to a book by James F. English on cultural prizes, the author recalls the role of public controversies as an essential tool of influencing the general public. He also compares the situation of two winners of the Nobel Prize in Literature (Olga Tokarczuk – for 2018, Peter Handke – for 2019), announced on the same day. Concluding, the author seeks to present the most important aspects of the dispute on the position and influence of Tokarczuk’s literary output

Magician from Słuczanka. On Ignacy Karpowicz’s writing skills

Przez krytyków literackich i badaczy nowej literatury pisarstwo Ignacego Karpowicza przyjmowane jest z uznaniem, a niekiedy z entuzjazmem. Autor artykułu usiłuje odsłonić i skatalogować przesłanki, jakie leżą u podstaw dość rozpowszechnionego i raczej zgodnego przekonania, że Karpowicz to znakomitość współczesnej polskiej prozy. Ignacy Karpowicz’s writings are received with appreciation, and sometimes with enthusiasm by literary critics and researchers of new literature. The author of the article tries to reveal and catalog the premises underlying the fairly widespread and rather unanimous belief that Karpowicz is the eminence of contemporary Polish prose. He asks about the circumstances and conditions of the writer’s success, about the most frequently formulated diagnoses of critics and researchers, taking into account both the earliest attempts to summarize Karpowicz’s literary output known at the moment, and later, more or less provisional, syntheses. It also refers to the recognition crisis that appeared with Karpowicz’s novel Miłość (2017); reveals the reasons for the dissatisfaction of opinion-makers who speak negatively about this novel and argues with these positions, considering them unfair and inappropriate.Dariusz Nowacki, dr hab., prof. Ucieczki i powroty. Wieś w nowej prozie polskiej

    No full text
Escapes and Returns. The Village in the New Polish Prose The aim of the article is to present a collection of rural novels written in recent years (2013–2022). The author adopted the expanded category of “prose of rural spaces,” pointing to its advantages and limitations. Then he lists two basic features of the new rural prose: focus on the past and its seriousness. In the main part, the author refers to two concepts mentioned in the title: escapes and returns. He notes that in new Polish prose we are dealing with escapes from the cities to the countryside, never in the opposite direction. He divides the issue of literary returns to the countryside into several problem clusters. In the most general terms, it is described by literary critics as a new wave of rural literature, which was generally associated with the plebeian (folk) turn that took place in Polish culture in the middle of the second decade of the 21st century. Then – on the example of Andrzej Stasiuk’s prose – he discusses the writer’s private returns to their rural childhoods and presents an original literary project, an anthology collecting stories written by members of the Writers’ Union from the Countryside. The next part of the article discusses the problem of a short-term return to the countryside, treated as a “rehabilitation stay.” The article closes with an interpretation and analysis of three works by Andrzej Muszyński, a writer who has been particularly attached to rural issues for a decade now
