Non-functional immunoglobulin G transcripts in a case of hyper-immunoglobulin M syndrome similar to type 4
86% of immunoglobulin G (IgG) heavy-chain gene transcripts were found to be non-functional in the peripheral blood B cells of a patient initially diagnosed with common variable immunodeficiency, who later developed raised IgM, whereas no non-functionally rearranged transcripts were found in the cells of seven healthy control subjects. All the patient's IgM heavy-chain and κ light-chain transcripts were functional, suggesting that either non-functional rearrangements were being selectively class-switched to IgG, or that receptor editing was rendering genes non-functional after class-switching. The functional γ-chain sequences showed a normal rate of somatic hypermutation while non-functional sequences contained few somatic mutations, suggesting that most came from cells that had no functional gene and therefore were not receiving signals for hypermutation. However, apoptosis of peripheral blood lymphocytes was not impaired. No defects have been found in any of the genes currently known to be responsible for hyper-IgM syndrome but the phenotype fits best to type 4

Nel marzo 1974 Fruttero e Lucentini danno alle stampe per Mondadori L’Italia sotto il tallone di F&L, un romanzo difficile da definire in quanto a genere, poiché oscilla tra cronaca e racconto di costume, distopia e ucronia, satira e documento. L’avantesto del libro è rappresentato da un «episodio fanta-diplomatico», come recita la quarta di copertina, che di fittizio non ha però alcunché. Nel dicembre dell’anno precedente, infatti, sulla «Stampa» si consuma una polemica tra i due scrittori e l’Ambasciata di Libia in Italia: l’oggetto della contesa è un pezzo di costume sul colonnello Gheddafi firmato dalla “Ditta” il 6 dicembre 1973, alla vigilia degli accordi finanziari tra lo Stato libico e la Fiat. Ne deriva un romanzo nel quale il rapporto tra realtà e invenzione narrativa è programmaticamente rovesciato, mentre il dettato è complicato da una intertestualità inquinata che manipola articoli giornalistici (propri e altrui), discorsi parlamentari, relazioni aziendali, fonti letterarie

The correction changes the destination to the Merced Assembly Center.The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942

Metabolic Dysregulations and Epigenetics: A Bidirectional Interplay that Drives Tumor Progression
Cancer has been considered, for a long time, a genetic disease where mutations in keyregulatory genes drive tumor initiation, growth, metastasis, and drug resistance. Instead, theadvent of high-throughput technologies has revolutionized cancer research, allowing to investigatemolecular alterations at multiple levels, including genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome,and metabolome and showing the multifaceted aspects of this disease. The multi-omics approachesrevealed an intricate molecular landscape where different cellular functions are interconnected andcooperatively contribute to shaping the malignant phenotype. Recent evidence has brought to lighthow metabolism and epigenetics are highly intertwined, and their aberrant crosstalk can contributeto tumorigenesis. The oncogene-driven metabolic plasticity of tumor cells supports the energeticand anabolic demands of proliferative tumor programs and secondary can alter the epigeneticlandscape via modulating the production and/or the activity of epigenetic metabolites. Conversely,epigenetic mechanisms can regulate the expression of metabolic genes, thereby altering themetabolome, eliciting adaptive responses to rapidly changing environmental conditions, andsustaining malignant cell survival and progression in hostile niches. Thus, cancer cells takeadvantage of the epigenetics-metabolism crosstalk to acquire aggressive traits, promote cellproliferation, metastasis, and pluripotency, and shape tumor microenvironment. Understandingthis bidirectional relationship is crucial to identify potential novel molecular targets for theimplementation of robust anti-cancer therapeutic strategies
