Improving MAC Layer Performance in WLAN

Abstract WLAN stands for Wireless Local Area Network. Now a days wireless technology have been widely implemented starting from home to educational institutes. So improving its performance is highly required. To increase the performance of the network some modifications can be made in MAC layer. So MAC layer has been studied thoroughly and some modification was done on back off algorithm. Some of the key concepts of our project are: Distance and performance: If distance between station and the AP varies then also performance varies. Scalability & Collision: If number of nodes increases in a network then its performance decreases due to heavy traffic. WLAN mechanisms: It may be Basic Access or RTS-CTS i.e. either directly sending the data or after RTS-CTS handshake. Back-off algorithms: There are mainly three back-off algorithms. EIED, MILD & BEB. EIED was compared with BEB wrt various packet arrival rates (eight) for RTS-CTS mechanism. Previous work has been done on Basic access mechanism. Some results were proposed by taking various combinations of values of EIED algorithm. Nitish Kumar Panigrahy (108CS004) Manat Kanher (108CS013

Too many cheers and not enough independence : media control through government advertisements in an Indian state

application/pdfIDP000784_001In marked contrast to his frequent political flip-flops, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been quite consistent in his control of the media. This paper shows both qualitatively and quantitatively that the Nitish Kumar government has taken advantage of government advertisements and exerted enormous pressure on the media to report on the government’s version of the truth. Our analysis indicates that the state government has had the upper hand because the media lacks private commercial advertisements from local businesses. However, the chief minister also depends on government advertisements to survive, given that he lacks solid constituencies and effective party machinery.technical repor

    Phytoremediation of Cadmium: A Review

    No full text
Cadmium (Cd) is a highly poisonous heavy metal that presents a considerable hazard to the environment and human health. It can move from water to soil, then food crops and accumulate in their edible parts. When it becomes part of the food chain, it causes toxic effects to human life via kidney damage to even cancers. Numerous methods have shown varied efficacies for its remediation from contaminated environments. One method that has shown promising results with sustainable Cd removal is phytoremediation, which involves phytoextraction, rhizofiltration, phytostabilization, and phytostimulation through diverse plant species. Based on Cd uptake in aerial part of plant three types of plants are existed and exploited for phytoremdiation such as hyperaccumulator (concentrate substantial amount of Cd in shoot with BCF > 1), excluder (concentrate tiny amount of Cd in shoot with BCF < 1), and indicator plants (concentrate reasonable amount of Cd in shoot with BCF = 1). Numerous plant species have been exploited for remediation of Cd in water (Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes, Lemna minor), whereas in soil (Brassica spp., Sedum alfredii, Populus alba, Alyssum murale, Helianthus annuus, Thlaspi caerulescens, Zea mays). This chapter critically reviewed the sources, and toxicity of Cd. Finally, selection criteria of plant, merits and demerits and types of phytoremediation elaborated in detail for remediation of Cd contaminated water and soil resources for achieving sustainable development

Bihar 2015: grand victory for the Mahagathbandhan, debacle for the BJP

    No full text
The Bihar election results announced earlier this month revealed a decisive victory for Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (Grand Alliance), while the BJP and its allies were soundly defeated. Pranav Gupta offers an overview of the results and analyses the likely contributing factors as well as the longer-term implications of the victory

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
