India - Pakistan Trade
Quantitative studies estimate that potential two way trade between India and Pakistan can be about 10 times than its rather unsatisfactory current level of $ 613 million. Moving towards realizing this trade potential is clearly in the interest of both countries and the region. In this context this study identifies areas of trade and investment co-operation between the two countries. On the basis of a survey conducted in three cities viz., Delhi, Mumbai and Amritsar the paper examines the characteristics of firms engaged in Indo-Pakistan trade. It also estimates existing transport arrangement between the two countries and the impact of all extant non-tariff barriers. The study suggests that the most important step towards enhancing trade would be to adopt the MFN principle as the current policy inhibits trade, lacks transparency and leads to high transaction costs. The study finds that transportation links between the two countries are inadequate and suggests that new rail and road links should be opened. Transaction costs of trading between India and Pakistan are high and can be lowered by implementing some rather simple policy measures that are spelled out in the paper. The study also examines recent developments in BIMSTEC, ASEAN and in Indo-Sri Lanka and Indo-Nepal trade agreements, and draws lessons to enhance Indo-Pakistan trade.South Asia, India-Pakistan trade, commercial policy, MFN

The Regenerative Mindset
Have you heard the terms sustainability, restoration, conservation, bioregionalism, or regeneration? What’s the difference between them? How can we apply each to design?
Nisha Mary Poulose joins Eric to share the work being done at her organizations, Regenerative Rising and the Woven Design Collaborative. What these organizations have accomplished continue to help better define “regeneration” not only for her collaborators but for designers. In this episode Nisha argues why we must shift our mindset to think like nature and how ecological principles can be best applied to design to create our present and future
Synthesis of Nisha-Amalaki Yoga (NAY) Using Special Ayurveda Pharmaceutical Technique: Bhavana (Levigation/Wet Milling)
Bhavana (Levigation) is a pharmaceutical process, which is preferably useful to nullify the unwanted effects of drugs and to potentiate the drug action by transforming the physical and chemical changes. In this process herbal powders are triturated along with herbal juice, decoction, or any organic liquid media till complete absorption of liquid with trituration process. This article is going to throw light on potentiation, synergistic action, increase in shelf life, and dose reduction of Nisha-Amalaki Yoga. In pharmaceutical process of Nisha-Amalaki Yoga,3 Bhavana of Emblica officinalis Gaertn. fruit juice was given to the powder of Curcuma longa L., until complete absorption of juice and dried under sunlight. Due to wet milling techniques, beneficial physicochemcal parameters changed in finished product. Weight of Choorna increased in successive manner indicating accumulation of solid particles of Emblica officinalis Gaertn. juice in Curcuma longa L. powder. Various organoleptic changes such as change of taste, change of color are also noticed. Continuous wet trituration with pressure reduced the particle size (60 to 85 mesh size) and made it compatible. GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) analysis revealed the presence of the major compounds such as1,1-Difluoro-Tetramethylcyclopropane (1.52%), AR-Tumerone (35.11%), 7- Curlone (55.30%) and Iso-aromadendrene epoxide/Iso-pinocarveol (8.07%). These compounds possess antidiabetic property which will be useful for upcoming clinical trial on prediabetes

The benefits of growth for Indonesian Workers
Indonesia's adopted development model has proved to be the most successful in alleviating poverty and benefiting workers in developing countries. The government's development efforts focused on agriculture, education, and transport infrastructure. It emphasized providing productive employment opportunities and gradually improving the labor quality through education and training. The wage, employment, and income growth rates were left to market forces. Although the rapid growth of labor-intensive manufacturing has led to more jobs and higher wages benefiting workers, workers employed in these industries have expressed growing dissatisfaction. They complain about problems of child labor, the denial of centrally mandated wages and benefits to workers, poor working conditions, and the abuse of young female workers. The government has tried to improve worker's wages and working conditions by centrally mandating higher labor standards, relying principally on minimum wages. Enforcement has improved and, despite low compliance, minimum wages are beginning to bite. Indonesians are debating whether they need labor intensive industries and whether it is a mistake to base Indonesia's growth on cheap labor. They argue that if labor is more expensive, manufacturers must substitute some capital for labor. However, if labor-intensive industries are rejected, the capacity of the economy to absorb plentiful workers will be reduced. The main alternatives are to push up wages now, or to let wages be determined by market forces and strengthen institutions that could improve working conditions, such as labor unions. The author recommends maintaining flexible labor markets and allowing market forces to set the pace of change, while strengthening labor unions.Environmental Economics&Policies,Public Health Promotion,Labor Policies,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Work&Working Conditions,Environmental Economics&Policies,Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Banks&Banking Reform,Work&Working Conditions,Municipal Financial Management
Evaluating female sexual pain
Nisha Marshall was a finalist in the 2022 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Nisha presented their research, "Evaluating Female Sexual Pain." They hope to ease communication between patients and doctors by creating a questionnaire using prior research in addition to a team of patients, researchers and doctors. Nisha Marshall is completing their Master’s in Reproductive and Developmental Sciences in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Paul Yong & Dr. Caroline Pukall.Medicine, Faculty ofObstetrics and Gynaecology, Department ofUnreviewedGraduat
