    Get PDF
In the chapter How to integrate coaching into teacher training programs authors Nikoleta Gutvajn and Jelena Pavlović introduce an approach to teachers’ professional development that combines traditional training with coaching as an intervention. In the first part of the chapter, the authors elaborate on the differences between the terms professional development, training and coaching. The authors also articulate some of the guiding principles for integrating coaching into teacher training programs. A model of integration of training and coaching is exemplified with an accredited professional development program in Serbia. Finally, the authors offer some concluding remarks regarding integrating coaching into teacher training programs.Collection name: LIBRARY "PEDAGOGICAL THEORY AND PRACTICE" 5

Inclusive Education in Serbia from the Perspective of Primary School Teachers in Serbia

The paper Inclusive Education in Serbia from the Perspective of Primary School Teachers in Serbia written by Milja Vujačić, Nikoleta Gutvajn and Jelena Stanišić focuses on a review of teachers’ approaches towards inclusive education through an analysis of their opinions on: a) inclusive education as an idea, b) the achievement of inclusive education in practice, c) the ways in which inclusive education is presented in our country’s educational policy, d) the training they underwent in this field, e) the problems and difficulties they face in the realisation of inclusive education and f) recommendations for the further development of inclusive education in Serbia. It was concluded that teachers’ opinions of inclusive education in Serbia are generally negative. Even though teachers emphasise the humane aspect of this idea, their replies indicate negative perceptions regarding the realisation of inclusive education in practice. Insufficient and inadequate teacher training, as well as a lack of quality support from experts and schools in general, present the key problem for the essential acceptance of this idea on the part of teachers and the successful realisation of inclusive education in practice. The authors point out the need to improve the support system for the implementation of inclusive education which would enable the adoption of the values and competences of inclusive education, the provision of continuous support to practitioners, as well as inter-departmental cooperation which would significantly contribute to changing teachers’ relation to the idea and practice of inclusive education.Naziv zbirke: Biblioteka "Pedagoška teorija i praksa" 4

The educational status and schooling problems of juvenile delinquents

In the paper The educational status and schooling problems of juvenile delinquents, the authors Marija Maljković, Nikoleta Gutvajn, Marina Kovačević Lepojević and Ljeposava Ilijić analyse legal statistics on registered juvenile delinquency in the Republic of Serbia, and present the results of empirical research regarding educational status and problems in the education of juvenile delinquents who are currently in the procedure of criminal sanctions execution. The research results show that juvenile delinquents who are excluded from the education system more often report low affiliation to school, absence from school, being labelled by teachers, belittling, and threats. Juvenile delinquents who are in institutions of non-institutional type are more likely to leave school than those with non-custodial sanctions. The authors propose applying the good practices that affect improvement of cooperation between the judicial and educational systems in criminal proceedings against juveniles, improvement of the school climate, informal education of juvenile delinquents, and mentoring programs.Collection name: LIBRARY "PEDAGOGICAL THEORY AND PRACTICE" 5

An examination of teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education

    Get PDF
The results of the research aimed at examining teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education were presented and analyzed by Milja Vujačić, Rajka Djević and Nikoleta Gutvajn in their paper An examination of teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education. What distinguishes this research from similar studies in Serbia is its examination of the relationship between teachers’ attitudes and their implicit pedagogies. The authors offer an account of key results of related research published both in our country and worldwide and recommend how to create further research on teachers’ attitudes, which would lead to a more comprehensive and detailed consideration of this important variable, on which the quality of application of inclusive education depends to a great extent. A basic conclusion of this research is that teachers’ attitudes towards inclusive education are moderately positive. The research has shown that there is a connection between teachers’ implicit pedagogies and their attitudes towards inclusion, that is, the closer teachers’ implicit pedagogies are to the contemporary education paradigm the more positive their attitudes towards inclusion are.Naziv zbirke: Biblioteka "Pedagoška teorija i praksa" 4
