Redefining the "Great Idea" : the impact of the Macedonian struggle 1904–1908 on the formation of Athanasios Souliotis-Nikolaidis' "Oriental Ideal"
The article is a contribution to Athanasios Souliotis-Nikolaidis (1878–1945), a prominent Greek national activist in the first decade of the 20th century, who articulated a political and cultural concept for the future of Greece that became known as the so called "Oriental Ideal". This concept is examined in the contemporary ideological context of Greek nationalism as of his personal conflict experiences in Macedonia which seems to have been crucial for its formation. The article is a contribution to Athanasios Souliotis-Nikolaidis (1878–1945), a prominent Greek national activist in the first decade of the 20th century, who articulated a political and cultural concept for the future of Greece that became known as the so called "Oriental Ideal". The Δρομοδείχτης της Ελλάδος of 1824 and Athanasios Stageirites (Τίτλος περίληψης)
σ. [281]-290Κείμενο στα ελληνικά με περίληψη στα αγγλικά με τον τίτλο: The Δρομοδείχτης της Ελλάδος of 1824 and Athanasios StageiritesThe article first examines the close relationship between the publication “Δρομοδείχτης της Ελλάδος” [1824] and the publication “Ηπειρωτικά” (1819) by Athanasios Stageirites and then suggests that Athanasios Stageirites is the likeliest author of the “Δρομοδείχτης της Ελλάδος”.Δωδώνη: Τεύχος Πρώτο: επιστημονική επετηρίδα του Τμήματος Ιστορίας και Αρχαιολογίας της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων; Τόμ. 43-44 (2014-2015

Bridges with composite deck supported by pre-stressed cables, the MNB optimal control system
It has been recently proved for bridges that the collaboration between a deck structure and an external pre-stressed cable is a very advantageous structural system due to the fact that the use of external pre-stressing cables neutralizes the permanent loads. However, the action of the moving loads on the cables causes large displacements not compatible with the connected deck structure. A successful method to minimize the aforementioned undesirable displacements is to use a passive control system based on an a priori upward, vertical deformation of the deck due to the pre-stress action of the supported cables. In the present paper, a bridge model (of type MNB after Michalopoulos Nikolaidis Baniotopoulos) based on a concrete plate connected with steel beams is proposed and studied
What Is Significant in Modern Augmented Reality: A Systematic Analysis of Existing Reviews
Augmented reality (AR) is a field of technology that has evolved drastically during the last decades, due to its vast range of applications in everyday life. The aim of this paper is to provide researchers with an overview of what has been surveyed since 2010 in terms of AR application areas as well as in terms of its technical aspects, and to discuss the extent to which both application areas and technical aspects have been covered, as well as to examine whether one can extract useful evidence of what aspects have not been covered adequately and whether it is possible to define common taxonomy criteria for performing AR reviews in the future. To this end, a search with inclusion and exclusion criteria has been performed in the Scopus database, producing a representative set of 47 reviews, covering the years from 2010 onwards. A proper taxonomy of the results is introduced, and the findings reveal, among others, the lack of AR application reviews covering all suggested criteria
Optimal Detector Structure For Dct And Subband Domain
Most of the watermarking schemes that have been proposed until now employ a correlator in the detection stage. The current paper proposes a new detector scheme that can be applied in the case of additive watermarking in the DCT or DWT domain. Certain properties of the probability density function of the coefficients in these domains are exploited in order to construct an asymptotically optimal detector based on well known results of the detection theory. Detection is performed without the use of the original image, as in methods employing different detectors. Experimental results prove the superiority of the proposed detector over the correlator
Peak power reduction algorithms in asymmetric digital subscriber line modems
Thesis (M.Eng.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2000.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 94-96).This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections. This thesis investigates peak-to-average ratio (PAR) reduction techniques for multicarrier modulation systems, such as discrete multitone (DMT) modems and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed (OFDM) terrestrial broadcast transmitters. Through simulation and test implementation on a state-of-the-art programmable ADSL development platform, this thesis pursues a suitable solution for minimizing PAR given the resources of a programmable platform. This solution is integrated as a prototype implementation into a fully-functional ADSL modem and optimized for maximum PAR reduction performance within modem complexity constraints.by Athanasios Dimitri Dousis.M.Eng
