No full textAbstractUsing the ‘multiplied’ version of Helly's theorem given by Bárány (Discrete Math. 40 (1982) 141–152) we generalize some selection and separation results obtained in Behrends and Nikodem (Studia Math. 116 (1) (1995) 43–48), Nikodem and Wa̧sowicz (Aequationes Math. 49 (1995) 160–164) and Wa̧sowicz (J. Appl. Anal. 1 (2) (1995) 173–179). In particular, it is shown that if three set-valued functions Φ1,Φ2,Φ3:I→cc(R) satisfy the condition Φi(tx+(1−t)y)∩[tΦj(x)+(1−t)Φk(y)]≠∅ for all x,y∈I,t∈[0,1] and every permutation (i,j,k) of the set {1,2,3} then at least one of them has an affine selection

Tekst zawiera podstawowe fakty na temat Kosińskiego oraz Zofii Mussil z domu Kosińskiej, autorki dziennika pisanego na początku XX wieku, w którym znajdują się opisy życia rodzinnego Kosińskich. Stanisław Nikodem Rawicz - Kosiński (1847-1923) zapisał się w historii jako wybitny inżynier specjalizujący się w budowie galicyjskich górskich linii kolejowych. Jego największym dziełem było zaprojektowanie przeprawy kolejowej nad Prutem, która stała się wzorem dla budowniczych alpejskich szlaków kolejowych.The basis of this article is the author’s paper presented during the conference on the 170 YEARS OF RAILWAY IN KRAKOW, organized by the Polish Association of Engineers and Technicians of Communication - Branch in Krakow, on the October 10, 2017, at the Krzysztofory Palace - Historical Museum of the City of Krakow. The article describes Stanisław Kosiński of Rawicz coat of arms - an outstanding Polish engineer. The text contains basic facts about Kosiński and Zofia Mussil née Kosińska, author of a diary written at the beginning of the 20th century, including descriptions of the family life of Kosińskis. Stanisław Nikodem Rawicz - Kosiński (1847 - 1923) was recorded in history as an outstanding engineer specializing in the construction of Galician mountain railway lines. His biggest work was a project of a railway crossing over the Prut river, which became a model for the builders of the Alpine railway routes

Hussite Diplomatic Missions in 1419–1436The author embarked upon the topic of diplomatic missions dispatched by the Hussites in 1419–1436 to political and religious opponents and neighbours. Attention is drawn to two fundamental purposes of such missions: religious (intent on obtaining consent to learn about Hussite truths of the faith) and political (attempts at finding allies in the struggle against Sigismund Luxembourg, and from a certain moment – ways of putting an amicable end to the conflict). Jarosław Nikodem is interested in the following questions: the context of each mission, its composition, the mandate received by the envoys(whenever more detailed pertinent information is available), the destination of the mission, meeting places, proposals and responses, the course of the meeting and its ultimate outcome. The author also wrote about missions dispatched to the Hussites, which, as rule, denoted consent for a continuation of further negotiations

Transcriptional regulation by thyroid hormone of an mRNA homologous to a protease inhibitor.
No full textWe have previously cloned a cDNA of a rat liver mRNA, designated 4-12B, markedly induced by triiodothyronine (T3) at a pretranslational level [Magnuson, M.A., Dozin, B., & Nikodem, V.M. (1985) J. Biol. Chem. 260, 5906-5912]. Here we show that this hormonal effect is due in part to an increase of the rate of transcription of the 4-12B gene. In addition, the nucleotide sequence of 4-12B cDNA has been determined, revealing significant similarity with the sequences of the superfamily of serine protease inhibitors and a very high homology with contrapsin, a mouse serum trypsin inhibitor, at the level of nucleotide and amino acid sequence (77.9 and 66.8%, respectively). The optimized alignment of the putative reactive center region of 4-12B with four related members of this superfamily revealed that lysine-serine residues are located at the reactive site or adjacent to it, thus suggesting that the triiodothyronine-regulated rat 4-12B mRNA might code for a protease inhibitor with trypsin-like specificity. Although not enough data are presently available to assign definitively antitryptic activity to this protein, the high degree of similarity with members of the superfamily of serine protease inhibitors leaves no doubt that 4-12B is a member of this superfamily
