Veremos o problema de eventos mentais causarem eventos físicose como o autor defende sua teoria do monismo anômalo. Isso implica explicar adiferença entre o que Davidson entende como um evento físico e um eventomental, e como podemos identificá-los para tentar racionalizar a ação. Aracionalidade engloba modos para tentar explicar mental e físico de formasdescritivas distintas, mas que de algum modo encontram-se na unidade dosujeito agente. No full textThis study aims to explain the relevance of Wittgenstein’s critique of the theory of representation to language studies. In Philosophical Investigations the author proposes the thesis of Language Games, which can be seen as a therapeutic solution not only to philosophical problems but to several areas of human knowledge. In a second moment it aims to improve the thesis of Wittgenstein taking into account the studies of Donald Davidson about the importance of the social aspect of language. To understand language’s form in different contexts as Games means to understand a field where people can interact with each other through dialogues that employs the same rules for the use of words.O presente artigo tem por objetivo expor a relevância para a área da linguagem da crítica que Wittgenstein faz à teoria da representação. Em Investigações Filosóficas, o autor formula a tese dos Jogos de Linguagem, que pode ser entendida como uma solução terapêutica para problemas não apenas filosóficos, mas de várias áreas do conhecimento humano. Em um segundo momento busca aprimorar a tese de Wittgenstein valendo-se dos estudos de Donald Davidson sobre a importância do aspecto social da linguagem. Compreender a forma da linguagem utilizada em contextos diferentes como Jogos, significa compreender um campo onde indivíduos possam interagir uns com os outros através de diálogos que respeitam as mesmas regras para o uso das palavras

No full textThis dissertation uses techniques from the theory of categorical actions of Kac-Moody algebras to study the analog of the BGG category O for the queer Lie superalgebra. Chen recently reduced many questions about this category to its so-called types A, B, and C blocks. The type A blocks were completely described in joint work with Brundan in terms of the general linear Lie superalgebra. This dissertation proves that the type C blocks admit the structure of a tensor product categorification of the n-fold tensor power of the natural sp_\infty-module. Using this result, we relate the combinatorics for these blocks to Webster’s orthodox bases for the quantum group of type C_\infty, verifying the truth of a recent conjecture of Cheng-Kwon-Wang. A politics of conversion: nihilism and love in Toni Morrison's fiction

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Letras.O estudo Uma Política de Conversão: Niilismo e Amor na Ficção de Toni Morrison começa com a idéia de que a Literatura Afro-Americana apresenta um sentido de auto-reflexividade e hibridismo, através do qual autobiografia dialoga com romance, o espiritual se funde com o político. A partir deste traço dialógico a auto-reflexividade é politicamente estabelecida entre niilismo e amor. Na política de conversão, o estudo analisa as formas como mulheres negras, individualmente ou em grupo, fogem da escravidão para a liberdade, avançam da individualidade para a coletividade, ou substituem niilismo por amor. Metodologicamente o estudo apresenta sete capítulos. O primeiro discute os aspectos dialógicos que ilustram as conexões entre narrativas espirituais, de escravos e ficção, entre espiritualidade e política. O segundo examina o diálogo entre a conversão, pregação pública e formação da comunidade em Diário e Experiências Religiosas de Lee. O capítulo sugere que ao afirmar espiritualidade e humanidade a narradora abre profundo espaço para a mulher negra reclamar direitos civis. O terceiro discute o diálogo no interior da política de conversão entre narrativa de escravos e ficção. Este diálogo lida com niilismo e amor em Incidentes de Jacobs e Amada, Sula e O Olho Mais Azul de Morrison. Para a análise de niilismo e amor valores individuais e coletivos são considerados em relação a cinco aspectos: ambiente e agente antagonistas, agente de apoio, propósito da personagem e resultado alcançado. É visível, no estudo, o apoio que certas mulheres recebem de suas comunidades para contra-atacar antagonistas. O apoio nem sempre resulta na superação do niilismo e, por isso, derrota temporária pode ocorrer antes que elas sejam reintegradas à comunidade, como acontece com Linda Brent. O quarto capítulo examina as fraquezas e as energias da política da conversão e a reintegração de Sethe Suggs à comunidade de Bluestone Road. O quinto avalia como a comunidade de Bottom tenta controlar a individualidade de Sula Peace e como um grupo de mulheres lideradas por Nel Wrights consegue resgatar o espírito de independência da heroína. O sexto mostra como a política da conversão das mulheres de Lorain é incapaz de garantir a saúde mental de Pecola Breedlove, mas consegue criar um papel mais consistente para o grupo. No sétimo, a conclusão examina da relação dialética entre niilismo e amor ou auto-amor nas experiências dos indivíduos e dos grupos. O estudo sugere que em Incidentes a busca de Linda Brent por liberdade envolve elementos de autodestruição e de autoempoderamento. Da mesma maneira, o estudo conclui que em Amada o amor que Sethe Suggs tem para as suas crianças mata a própria filha, enfatizando, assim, o desejo de livrá-la da escravidão. Igualmente em Sula, a individualidade de Sula Peace não apenas limita, mas também expande as experiências do grupo, levando-o à emancipação. Finalmente, em O Olho Mais Azul a luta de Pecola Breedlove por amor e beleza reflete auto-ódio ao mesmo tempo em que reconstrói a auto-apreciação de toda a comunidade
Microsomal Triglyceride Transfer Protein Transfers and Determines Plasma Concentrations of Ceramide and Sphingomyelin but Not Glycosylceramide
No full textSphingolipids, a large family of bioactive lipids, are implicated in stress responses, differentiation, proliferation, apoptosis, and other physiological processes. Aberrant plasma levels of sphingolipids contribute to metabolic disease, atherosclerosis, and insulin resistance. They are fairly evenly distributed in high density and apoB-containing lipoproteins (B-lps). Mechanisms involved in the transport of sphingolipids to the plasma are unknown. Here, we investigated the role of microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP), required for B-lp assembly and secretion, in sphingolipid transport to the plasma. Abetalipoproteinemia patients with deleterious mutations in MTP and absence of B-lps had significantly lower plasma ceramide and sphingomyelin but normal hexosylceramide, lactosylceramide, and different sphingosines compared with unaffected controls. Furthermore, similar differential effects on plasma sphingolipids were seen in liver- and intestine-specific MTP knock-out (L,I-Mttp(-/-)) mice, suggesting that MTP specifically plays a role in the regulation of plasma ceramide and sphingomyelin. We hypothesized that MTP deficiency may affect either their synthesis or secretion. MTP deficiency had no effect on ceramide and sphingomyelin synthesis but reduced secretion from primary hepatocytes and hepatoma cells. Therefore, MTP is involved in ceramide and sphingomyelin secretion but not in their synthesis. We also found that MTP transferred these lipids between vesicles in vitro. Therefore, we propose that MTP might regulate plasma ceramide and sphingomyelin levels by transferring these lipids to B-lps in the liver and intestine and facilitating their secretion
Genetic pathways in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: Insights from systems biology
No full textNonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents a burgeoning worldwide epidemic whose etiology reflects multiple interactions between environmental and genetic factors. Here we review the major pathways and dominant genetic modifiers known to be relevant players in human NAFLD and which may determine key components of the heritability of distinctive disease traits including steatosis and fibrosis. In addition, we have employed general assumptions which are based on known genetic factors in NAFLD to build a systems biology prediction model that includes functional enrichment. This new prediction model highlights additional complementary pathways that represent plausible intersecting signaling networks that we define here as a NAFLD-Reactome. We review the evidence connecting variants in each of the major known genetic modifiers (variants in PNPLA3, TM6SF2, MBOAT7, GCKR and HSD17B13) to NAFLD and expand the associated underlying mechanisms using functional enrichment predictions, based on both preclinical and cell based experimental findings. These major candidate gene variants function in distinct pathways, including substrate delivery for de-novo lipogenesis; mitochondrial energy utilization; lipid droplet assembly, lipolytic catabolism and fatty acid compartmentalization; and VLDL assembly and secretion. The NAFLD-Reactome model expands these pathways and allows for hypothesis testing as well as serving as a discovery platform for druggable targets across multiple pathways that promote NAFLD development and which influence several progressive outcomes. In conclusion, we summarize the strengths and weaknesses of studies implicating selected variants in the pathophysiology of NAFLD and highlight opportunities for future clinical research and pharmacologic intervention, as well as the implications for clinical practice
