No full textThe graduation studio of Architectural Engineering focuses on the integration of (new) technology in architecture. For this purpose, the name aE/ INTECTURE® was devised, which will be developed further as a brand in the coming years. Students start with a technical fascination and translate this into an architectural concept, finally being able to implement this within the environment in a responsible way. ‘If technology is the answer, what is the question?‘ Under the guidance of a team of enthusiastic (guest) lecturers, students search for the dot on the horizon that is necessary for coming up with solutions that improve the quality of the built environment and make it more sustainable. IS CP A GAUGE-SYMMETRY
No full textConventional solutions to the strong CP problem all require the existence of global symmetries. However, quantum gravity may destroy global symmetries, making it hard to understand why the electric dipole moment of the neutron (EDMN) is so small. We suggest here that CP is actually a discrete gauge symmetry, and is therefore not violated by quantum gravity. We show that four-dimensional CP can arise as a discrete gauge symmetry in theories with dimensional compactification, if the original number of Minkowski dimensions equals 8k + 1, 8k + 2 or 8k + 3, and if there are certain restrictions on the gauge group; these conditions are met by superstrings. CP may then be broken spontaneously below 10(9) GeV, explaining the observed CP violation in the kaon system without inducing a large EDMN. We discuss the phenomenology of such models, as well as the peculiar properties of cosmic ''CP strings'' which could be produced at the compactification scale. Such strings have the curious property that a particle carried around the string is turned into its CP conjugate. A single CP string renders four-dimensional space-time nonorientable

Main motifs in the prose of the leftist author Kang Kyŏng-ae
No full textThe subject of this bachelor thesis is the life and work of the Korean writer Kang Kyǒng-ae, with a focus on her short prose. The aim of this thesis is an analysis of two works - Salt and Darkness - with attention to the context of the author's time. Nowadays, Kang Kyǒng-ae is considered a significant author of the 1930s and her works reflect the phenomenon of Korean emigrants in Manchuria. For a long time, leftist tendencies caused her prose to be neglected, which resulted in a considerably limited number of studies concerned with her work, in comparison to the number of studies about other writers. There are virtually no Czech studies of her work. The text of the thesis initially presents the timeframe of Kang's authorship and then analyzes select works of hers. Accuracy of Nelson and best guess formulae in estimation of weights in Nigerian children population
No full textBackground: An alternative method of estimating children’s weights, when direct weighing is impracticable is the use of age-based formulae but these formulae have not been validated in Nigeria. This study compares estimated weights from two commonly used formulae against actual weights of healthy children.Methods: Children aged 1 month to 11 years (n= 2754) were randomlyselected in Ibadan, Nigeria using a two-stage sampling procedure. Weight of each child, measured using a standard calibrated scale and determined using Nelson and Best Guess formulae, were compared. Demographic characteristics were also obtained. Mean percentage error (MPE) was calculated and stratified by gender and age. Bland-Altman graphs were used for visual assessment of the agreement between estimated and measured weights. Clinically acceptable MPE was defined as ±5%. Descriptive statistics and paired t test were used to examine the data. Statistical level of significance was set at p = 0.05.Results: There were 1349 males and 1405 females. Nelson and Best Guess formulae overestimated weight by 10.11% (95% CI: -20.44, 40.65) in infants. For 1-5 years group, Nelson formula marginally underestimated weight by -0.59% (95% CI: -5.16, 3.96) while it overestimated weight by 9.87% (95% CI: 24.89, 44.63) in 6-11 years. Best Guess formulae consistently overestimated weight in all age groups with the MPE ranging from 10.11 to 30.67%.Conclusion: Nelson and Best Guess formulae are inaccurate for weight estimations in infants and children aged 6-11 years. Development of new formulae or modifications should be considered for use in the Nigerian children population.Keywords: Measured weight, Best Guess formula, Nelson formula, Mean percentage erro

No full textInternational audienceIn this article, the author studies again the inscription on a stone of a nepos from Alburnus Maior: Panes, son of Bizo (AE, 2008, 1167 = AE,2007, 1201). If the word nepos very often means « grandson », there are cases where it means « nephew ». The author pays special attention to the Latin kinship terminology in this inscription because names and lines are not Roman but peregrine. So, there is ambiguity as we cannot exactly know the relations between all these names. Now, between a grandfather and his grandson or an uncle and his nephew, there is the same number of generations. It is necessary for one to compare these to other inscriptions and words in addition to nepos (auia, auus, nurus, gener, pater, mater) or only with nepos in Rhenodanubian provinces (Raetia, Pannoniae, Moesiae, Dacia): these 67 inscriptions are in an appendix.The author concludes that the these two possibilities exist here
