Heterogeneous and tissue-specific regulation of effector T cell responses by IFN-gamma during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection.
Get PDFIFN-γ and T cells are both required for the development of experimental cerebral malaria during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection. Surprisingly, however, the role of IFN-γ in shaping the effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cell response during this infection has not been examined in detail. To address this, we have compared the effector T cell responses in wild-type and IFN-γ(-/-) mice during P. berghei ANKA infection. The expansion of splenic CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells during P. berghei ANKA infection was unaffected by the absence of IFN-γ, but the contraction phase of the T cell response was significantly attenuated. Splenic T cell activation and effector function were essentially normal in IFN-γ(-/-) mice; however, the migration to, and accumulation of, effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells in the lung, liver, and brain was altered in IFN-γ(-/-) mice. Interestingly, activation and accumulation of T cells in various nonlymphoid organs was differently affected by lack of IFN-γ, suggesting that IFN-γ influences T cell effector function to varying levels in different anatomical locations. Importantly, control of splenic T cell numbers during P. berghei ANKA infection depended on active IFN-γ-dependent environmental signals--leading to T cell apoptosis--rather than upon intrinsic alterations in T cell programming. To our knowledge, this is the first study to fully investigate the role of IFN-γ in modulating T cell function during P. berghei ANKA infection and reveals that IFN-γ is required for efficient contraction of the pool of activated T cells

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Get PDFEste documento contiene archivo en PDF.El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como propósito el Diseñar un sistema de localización y alarmas de seguridad para vehículos mediante tecnologías gprs/ gsm, el propósito es analizar la factibilidad de aplicación de un sistema de localización y seguridad con sensores los cuales nos será de útil ayuda en caso de que ocurra algún evento no deseado como apertura de puertas, choque o la temperatura del vehículo no sea la adecuada que permitirán tener a buen recaudo el automóvil, a causa del gran incremento de vehículos, se vuelve una necesidad conocer su ubicación exacta, bien sea esto por seguridad en caso de robo o por control y monitoreo, dándole un valor agregado con la implementación de una aplicación móvil que muestre la ubicación exacta en tiempo real cuando nos encontremos dentro del vehículo, también se pudo obtener resultados mediante la elaboración de encuestas a usuarios que a diario visitan los centros comerciales siendo estos posibles víctimas de la delincuencia que acecha la ciudad por tal motivo es importante señalar que para examinar estos problemas se utilizó encuestas y observación directa que proporcionó información basado en problemas existentes. Durante el análisis de la investigación concluyo que es factible la implementación de un nuevo sistema de seguridad vehicular basado en la necesidad de salvaguardar la integridad de los usuarios.The present research work is to design a system of location and security alarm for vehicles using gprs / gsm technologies, the purpose is to analyze the feasibility of applying a localization and security system with sensors application which will be a useful help in the event of any unintended event such as opening doors, crash or the temperature of the vehicle is not adequate that will allow to have safety Automobile, because of the large increase of vehicles, it becomes necessity to know its exact location, either for security in case of theft or for control and monitoring, giving it an added value with the implementation of a mobile that shows the exact location in real time if are inside the vehicle it was also possible to obtain results through the elaboration of user surveys that daily visit the commercial centers being these possible victims of the crime ambush the city for this reason, it is important to note the use of surveys and direct observation that allowed information based on existing problems to analyze these problems . No full textEste documento contiene archivo en PDF.En Ecuador en el año 2010 se adopta el estándar ISDB-Tb para transmisión y recepción de TDT, lo que abre paso a las oportunidades de estudio y desarrollo para trabajos en este ámbito, porlo que este trabajo tiene como propósito implementar un dispositivo capaz de receptar y reproducir TDT conocido como STB (Set Top Box), para lo cual se establece diferentes aspectos relacionados al bajo costo en arquitectura configuraciones y pruebas.Como primer punto el método bibliográfico explica la descripción del sistema, los componentes a utilizar y la topología del STB, el método experimental indica la construcción del STB, la instalación de su software, la construcción de un Kernel local y su configuración, así como el escaneo y reproducción de los canales en formato HD y SD y la factibilidad que se tiene al reproducirlos sin sobrecalentar la placa con una temperatura menor a 50 °C, dando como resultado final y mejor acogida en formato SD puesto que no usa tanto recurso de la Raspberri para la reproducción de canales digitales, dado que en el formato de alta definición HD, se utiliza todos los recursos de la Raspberri que a largo plazo puede ser un problema para el dispositivo.In Ecuador in 2010 the ISDB-Tb standard was adopted for transmission and reception of DTT, which opens the way to study and development opportunities for working in this area, so this work targets to implement a device capable of receiving and playing DTT known as STB (Set Top Box), for which different aspects related to low-cost architecture configurations and tests are established. As first point the bibliographic method explains the description of the system, the components to use and the topology of the STB, the experimental method indicates the construction of the STB, the installation of its software, the construction of a local Kernel and its configuration, as well as the scanning and playback video channels in HD and SD format and the feasibility of playing them without overheating the plate with a temperature lower than 50 °C, giving as a final result and better reception in SD format, so that it does not use so many resources of the Raspberri for playing digital channels, in the HD format, it uses all the resources of Raspberri that in the long term can be a problem for the device
Measuring industry-science links through inventor-author relations: A profiling method
Get PDFIn this pilot study we examine the performance of text-based profiling in recovering a set of validated inventor-author links. In a first step we match patents and publications solely based on their similarity in content. Next, we compare inventor and author names on the highest ranked matches for the occurrence of name matches. Finally, we compare these candidate matches with the names listed in a validated set of inventor-author names. Our text-based profile methodology performs significantly better than a random matching of patents and publications, suggesting that text-based profiling is a valuable complementary tool to the name searches used in previous studies.innovation; industry-science links; text-based profiling;
