This paper applies trauma theory to Tears of the Desert, an autobiography written by the Sudanese author Halima Bashir. It examines the traumatic experience of the protagonist Halima Bashir who has been raped during Darfur conflict. In applying the aforementioned theory, this paper shows how the traumatic memory of Halima stands as a collective memory for the oppressed Sudanese in Darfur. Halima’s work, although focusing on the rape experience of an individual, implies a political message that many Sudanese were subjected to physical and psychological traumas as they were bearing witness to the conflict in Darfur

An integrated approach to iron deficiency anemia

    No full text
36-41Iron deficiency is a common nutritional disorder in developing countries and contributes significantly to reduced work productivity and economic output as well as to increased morbidity and mortality. There are well established biochemical tests for assessing iron status in developed countries. However, cost and interference from infectious conditions make it difficult to assess iron status in many developing country settings. Examination of the hemoglobin distribution in the population and assessment of the hemoglobin response to supplementation are alternative approaches to defining iron status and the nature of anemia. Prevention and control of iron deficiency requires the combined approach of dietary improvement, fortification of a common staple food when feasible, and appropriate iron supplementation for infants and pregnant women. In all these intervention activities, operational research is needed to improve effectiveness. In addition, controlling iron deficiency requires coordination with other nutrition and primary healthcare programs as part of an integrated approach to improved health and nutrition of the population. A randomized, controlled double blind clinical trial was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of herbal medicinal treatment syrup Sharbat-a-Folad versus syrup Ferplex for the treatment of Iron Deficiency Anemia. </span

================================================================================================== Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a special form of crossborder capital flows from the country of origin to the country of investment destination and GDP or known as gross domestic product is the value of goods and services produced within the country concerned within a certain period of time. Several previous research results show that there is an effect of FDI on growth GDP and GDP growth has an effect on FDI which is also supported by other variables, namely Degree of Openness, Labor Force, Gross Fixed Capital Formation and Balance of Trade, therefore the author will conduct simultaneous equation analysis using the 2SLS (Two Stage Least Square), method in the ASEAN region. Based on the results of the analysis that has been done, it is found that there is an influence of growth GDP, Degree of Openness and Labor Force to FDI on GDP with a goodness of fit 96.40% and there is an influence of FDI on GDP, Gross Fixed Capital Formation on GDP and Balance of Trade to Growth GDP with the goodness of fit 88.29%
