Centro de Comunicação e ExpressãoPedro Nava, em suas "memórias", sustenta a força e a riqueza de sua narrativa em uma "leitura" do mundo. Desde fotografias e documentos, passando por velhos bilhetes e cartas do tempo de escola, até os espaços - as ruas, as ruínas, a cidade. Toda esta matéria se mostra para o memorialista como repleta de significados perdidos que o narrador - mediado por seu "saber", a experiência - vai desvendar e nos devolver através do seu texto. A reconstrução deste mundo pleno de sentidos empreendida pela memória não é uma tentativa de "descrição" do passado "tal qual aconteceu", mas - nas palavras do próprio Nava - uma descrirreconstrução: a recriação através da narrativa de um passado vivo e multifacetado. As memórias de Nava são então um esforço de memória cultural, na medida em que se trata de uma inteligibilidade do tempo mediada pelo acúmulo e transmissão da experiência coletiva - a cultura. Uma memória que quer testemunhar sobre os fazeres dos homens empenhados em seu convívio com os outros homens, em suas práticas e significações sociais, que dão sentido ao mundo e ao tempo

Full text linkDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Educação, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação, Florianópolis, 2012.Este é um estudo sobre a (auto) formação de Pedro da Silva Nava (1903-84), memorialista de Minas Gerais. Para tanto, procurou-se investigar as forças que exerceram papel formativo sobre Nava, em três segmentos de sua história: família, escola e amigos, que compõem, a propósito, os três capítulos apresentados na pesquisa. A esta intenção, foi acrescentada a ideia de um "formar-se", que compreende a iniciativa própria do escritor em recorrer às letras, impulsionada por subjetividades a ele inerentes. Na parte da família, três nomes foram escolhidos: Maria Luísa (avó), Antônio Salles (tio) e Ennes de Souza (tio-avô), os quais influenciaram, significativamente, Nava em sua vida e em sua carreira de escritor. O capítulo que se debruça sobre as memórias escolares ganhou uma subdivisão, que procurou compreender desde os primeiros passos do escritor em ambiente escolar (nos Colégios Andrès e Lucindo Filho, ambos em Juiz de Fora) até a conclusão de seus estudos médios, anteriores ao ingresso na faculdade de medicina, em Belo Horizonte. O último capítulo falou sobre os agitados anos 20, durante os quais Nava foi, concomitantemente, funcionário público, universitário e agitador cultural, juntamente com figuras como Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Experiências que, combinadas com outros estudos e numa leitura própria, buscaram mostrar, ainda que parcialmente, o processo (auto) formativo daquele que se sagrou um genial escritor brasileiro.This is a study about the (self) formation of Pedro da Silva Nava (1903-84), writer of memoirs from Minas Gerais. For this, the proposal was to investigate the forces which performed formative role over Nava, on three segments of his history: family, school and friends, that compose, by the way, the three chapters present in this research. To this intention, a "self-forming" ideia was added, which comprehends the writer's initiative on searching words, stimulated by his own subjectivities. From the family, three names were chosen: Maria Luísa (grandmother), Antônio Salles (uncle) and Ennes de Souza (great-uncle), who influenced, significantly, Nava during his life and carrer as a writer. The chapter about the scholar memories got a subdivision, that wanted to comprise since the writer's first steps, in Juiz de Fora, until the conclusion of his medical studies, in Belo Horizonte. The last chapter talked about the excited 1920's, when Nava was, at the same time, a civil servant and a cultural agitator, with people like Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Experiences that, combined with other studies and a selfreading, tried to show, although in a parcial way, the (self) formative process of the one who became a genial Brazilian writer

Full text link'BRITISH' is a photography exhibition that explores the multi-cultural nature of British identity.
Taking his own iconic 'British' T-shirt, a celebration of multicultural 'Britishness', as his starting point the fashion designer Walé Adeyemi commissioned photographer Zadoc Nava to document the changing face of Britain.
Using the street as his studio, Nava has produced a series of compelling portraits that reflect the diverse nature of contemporary British society.
The series deliberately avoids geographical specificity to focus on the people not the location. A number of carefully considered, individual portraits are presented alongside a series of street portraits. On the crowded streets,the subjects appear lost in contemplation, immersed in a world of their own, or defiant and uncompromising as they return the photographer's gaze.
The photographs are not staged but they possess a deliberate implication of narrative, as if the people photographed are characters in an imaginary film; expressions and body language allude to real life stories and experiences, unspoken fears and desires.
There are moments of brevity and unexpected humour but as the euphoria of the 2012 Games recedes and the recession lingers the images reveal a mood of melancholy and uncertainty.
Ultimately, the diversity revealed in the images demonstrates the impossibility of defining any one, all encompassing notion of 'Britishness'. Instead we are offered a captivating glimpse of difference and individuality - a national identity shaped by a legacy of Empire and migration.
This intersection between fashion design and photography has produced a unique perspective on contemporary Britain
Identification of adequate neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) during systematic increases in the NAVA level
No full textNeurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) delivers airway pressure (P(aw)) in proportion to the electrical activity of the diaphragm (EAdi) using an adjustable proportionality constant (NAVA level, cm·H(2)O/μV). During systematic increases in the NAVA level, feedback-controlled down-regulation of the EAdi results in a characteristic two-phased response in P(aw) and tidal volume (Vt). The transition from the 1st to the 2nd response phase allows identification of adequate unloading of the respiratory muscles with NAVA (NAVA(AL)). We aimed to develop and validate a mathematical algorithm to identify NAVA(AL). P(aw), Vt, and EAdi were recorded while systematically increasing the NAVA level in 19 adult patients. In a multistep approach, inspiratory P(aw) peaks were first identified by dividing the EAdi into inspiratory portions using Gaussian mixture modeling. Two polynomials were then fitted onto the curves of both P(aw) peaks and Vt. The beginning of the P(aw) and Vt plateaus, and thus NAVA(AL), was identified at the minimum of squared polynomial derivative and polynomial fitting errors. A graphical user interface was developed in the Matlab computing environment. Median NAVA(AL) visually estimated by 18 independent physicians was 2.7 (range 0.4 to 5.8) cm·H(2)O/μV and identified by our model was 2.6 (range 0.6 to 5.0) cm·H(2)O/μV. NAVA(AL) identified by our model was below the range of visually estimated NAVA(AL) in two instances and was above in one instance. We conclude that our model identifies NAVA(AL) in most instances with acceptable accuracy for application in clinical routine and research

No full textApesar da dimensão estruturante, é sobretudo nas linhas de fuga que se espelha aquele que pode considerar-se o vector mais afirmativo da poética de Luís Miguel Nava: o estilhaçamento na representação do corpo. Os trânsitos anamórficos configuram distorções que se consubstanciam sobretudo numa complexa teia de intercâmbios entre os órgãos do corpo e a paisagem, recriada e centrada em espaços obsessivos. As asperezas resultantes da distorção sintáctica contribuem para que na obra de Luís Miguel Nava se acentue o estranhamento. Na própria acumulação de nós se torna visível a diferença da sua dicção, uma das mais singulares da recente poesia portuguesa
