Tele-Assessment of the Tele-Taught University Degree in Computer Science Engineering
Since 2001 all courses of a 3-year university degree in computer science engineering at the
University of Padova are being taught in 4 geographically distributed sites using real-time simultaneous teleteaching
technologies. The aim of the system is to deliver academic lessons to geographically distributed
classrooms, preserving as much as possible the way the teacher communicates and interacts with students in a
traditional classroom.
The focus is on the quality assessment survey submitted to both students and teaching staff at the end of the
(last) 3rd period. Objectives of the survey are: to assess the effectiveness of the lessons delivered with teleteaching
modality; to get indications on the perceived quality of the tele-teaching technology, of classrooms,
laboratories and services in the remote sites. An on-line questionnaire has been designed and is currently
submitted to all the teachers and all the students attending these courses in the 4 sites.
The Moodle environment has been adopted to create online courses integrated with the above mentioned teleteaching
platform. All aspects concerned in the question of the survey have been statistically analyzed, and
results report grouping data by enrolment year, site and role of the answering have been disseminated through
the web site
La Vestale 'incesta'
Marcello Salvadore: La Vestale incesta.
Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Pliny the Younger and Plutarch are the sources
of a detailed account of Vestalis incesta’s punishment: they say that she was
sentenced to death. Dionysius adds that there was no after death ritual.
Modern scholars generally accept what the three authors assert. In this article
the author surmises that the Vestalis incesta, together with the parricida, was
not condemned to death: both of them were sentenced to a particular kind
of banishment from the Society
Effectiveness assessment of tele-taught vs. traditional courses of a 3-year university degree in computer science engineering
This paper aims at perform an effectiveness assessment of tele-taught university courses, based on
quantitative data regarding fully cohortes of students. The assessment works up by analyzing grades
coming from the traditional and tele-taught courses to bring out differences in objective effectiveness
of both the methodologies.
Since more than 5 years, all courses of a 3-year University degree in Computer Science Engineering
at the University of Padua have been taught in 4 geographically distributed sites using real-time
simultaneous tele-teaching technologies. Main differences between tele-taught and traditional lessons
are: exploitation of new technologies (distributed network infrastructures, high quality multimedia
transmission, etc.); the number of students attending in teleteaching classrooms are fewer than the
traditional ones; and the tutor presence, who helps and supports students with practice sessions.
The paper begins with the description of the tele-teaching platform and the teaching approach,
because the roles of both teaching people and technolgies underlie the assessment analysis. On this
background the methodology of the assessment is described and finally the analysis.
Results highlight the same effectiveness of both tele-taught and traditional lessons: performance
differences among students are mainly due to their high school of origin. The experience at University
of Padua reveals the soundness of its own teleteaching approach in order to fulfill the needs of
commuter students, saving the daily travel time from home to University main site
Thoraco-parapericardial splenosis: Features of a rare diagnosis and a case report
Introduction: Thoracic splenosis is an acquired rare condition, resulting from heterotopic autotransplantation of splenic parenchyma into chest, usually after traumatic spleen and diaphragm rupture. Methods and Results: This paper describes the thoracic splenosis, as an incidental diagnosis and asymptomatic condition, 34 years after a thoracoabdominal trauma in a patient who underwent radiological investigations due to a 15 kg weight loss in the previous four months: the only abnormalities found were thoracoparapericardial and abdominal nodules of splenosis. Discussion: Thoracic splenosis is a rare condition, usually following a thoracoabdominal trauma with concomitant lesions of the spleen and diaphragm, which allow tho-racic implantation of splenic tissue. Patients are generally asymptomatic, and the condition is discovered incidentally during radiological investigations, which allow certain diagnosis without using invasive methods. Excision of splenosis should be considered for symptomatic patients or unconfirmed diagnosis. Conclusions: Thoracic splenosis is a rare condition. Imaging investigations allow to diagnose the condition, and excision of splenosis is not suggested for asymptomatic patients
De Lope a Celano: la adaptación italiana de "Los tres diamantes"
Abstract
This paper explores an Italian adaptation of Lope de Vega’s play Los tres diamantes, written in the
second part of the seventeenth century. Its author, Carlo Celano, was a famous writer of opere regie,
i.e., adaptations of Spanish comedies of situation. The analysis focuses on the way in which the
adaptation of the Aristotelian units of space and time leads to a reduction of the characters and a
simplification of the situation, although this is compensated by enriching its ludic component. This
last trait can be also observed in a previous re-elaboration of Lope’s comedy, the scenario of the
Commedia dell’arte titled Il cavaliere dai tre gigli d’oro

Answers to Criticism
The author answers to the critics of M. Capaldo and A.Giambelluca Kossova with the aim to bring the different proposed questions back into the sphere of scientifi c dialogue
RNA isolation from the milk of dairy ewes for transcriptome analysis
Different diet regimens induce changes in milk composition. For example, linseed supplementation is a reliable feeding strategy to increase polyunsaturated fatty acid content in milk fat from sheep, improving milk quality and its nutraceutical value. The identification of genes regulating milk secretion by mammary glands is a key-step for identifying molecular bases of diet induced differences in milk composition. In this work we describe a method for isolation of RNA from sheep milk. In fact, the milk of dairy ewes contains somatic cells mostly derived by mammary glands. We collected milk from dairy ewes at 90 day of lactation and after 3 weeks of diet supplementation with extruded linseed. Milk somatic cells were isolated by centrifugation and RNAs were purified from these cells. To estimate reliability of this method we performed Illumina RNA sequencing and started an analysis of RNA synthesis
The Pragmatics of Literature
This translation of the work of one of the founding fathers of literary structuralism and semiotics in Italy is a timely introduction to the theoretical study of literary communication. Marcello Pagnini is a leading figure in the post-structuralist endeavor to return the text to something resembling its social matrix. He explores not only the dynamics of the author/reader rapport but also the connections between the literary text and its sociocultural and historical contexts
Sulla presenza di Cipriano nel “De aleatoribus”
In ps.cyprianic De aleatoribus the whole way of composing shows
a deep assimilation of Cyprian’s model by the anonymous author.
The similarities attract attention for their evidence: the main subjects in common, the reference to single words and expressions, the similar structure of several sentences, the same expressions for introducing biblical quotations, the quotation of the same biblical texts too. Everything induces to admit that the anonymous author depends directly on Cyprian
