Governing firms: industrialisation after statism in South Asia
LSE’s Dr Adnan Naseemullah argues that the Indian state has been largely ineffective as a developmental actor in the economy
Typographical/spelling errors in the references, pictures, tables, figures and graphs in the articles submitted to the journal of Adnan Menderes University School of medicine
sunumu, 8’i (%10) derleme, 3’ü(%3,8) deneysel araştırma olup makalelerdeki
ortalama kaynak sayısı 18±11,96 (dağılım, 3-61) idi. Altmışsekiz makalede tüm
kaynaklarda hata mevcuttu. Oniki makalede hatasız kaynak/kaynaklar vardı.
Kaynaklardaki hata oranı %95,9, majör hata oranı %6,14 olarak bulundu. En
sık hata yapılan kısımlar sayfa numarası (%52,51), yıl (%13,32) ve yazar ismi
(%12,35) idi. Sekiz makalede tablo, şekil, grafik ve resim yoktu; 72 makalede toplam
136 tablo, 133 şekil, grafik, resim sayısı vardı. Yalnızca ondört makaledeki 18
tablo, 28 şekil ve resimde hata olmadığı gözlendi.
SONUÇ: Kaynaklar, resim, tablo, şekil ve grafiklerde oldukça yüksek oranda yazılım
hatası mevcuttur. Dergilere gönderilen yazılarda, kaynaklar, yazım kuralları
dikkatle incelenerek yazılmalı; resim, şekil ve grafik yazıları özenli bir şekilde düzenlenmelidir.OBJECTIVE: Aim of this paper is to determine the spelling errors in text, references,
pictures, tables, figures and graphs in articles submitted to the Journal of
Adnan Menderes University School of Medicine and to encourage submission of
articles written according to the rules of publication.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, Adnan Menderes University School
of Medicine, published in the Journal of the online article submitted to one of
the 80 included in the study. Eighty articles submitted to be published online
in the Journal of Adnan Menderes University Medical Faculty were included in
this study. In articles, spelling errors in sections of references, pictures and tables
were evaluated. First of all, references of each article were checked to see
whether the article was present in PubMed by entering the name of the first
author and publication year of the reference. If present in PubMed then the
article was scanned by entering the names of each co-author(s), article title,
numbers of the volumes and pages. If not present in PubMed the article was
also scanned entering the article title or the names of other co-authors. For the
articles not published in PubMed, the books, the book chapter(s) and for the URL
internet references Google search engine was used. Errors such as incorrect or
omitted author names, title errors, incorrect journal names, wrong year, volume
and page numbers which prevent the access to correct information directly were
accepted as major errors.
RESULTS: Forty-three (53.8%) of the articles were clinical trials, 26 (32.5%) were
case studies, 8 (10%) of them were review articles and 3(3.8%)of them were
experimentalresearch. The average number of references in the articles was
18±11.96 (range,3-61). In 68 articles there were errors in allof the references.
Only 12 articles had references with no errors. Error ratio of references was determined
as 95.9% while 6.14% of these were major errors. The most common
errors were in page numbers (52.51%), years (13.32%) and names of the author’s
(12.35%). Eight articles did not include any tables, figures, graphics or pictures.
A total of 136 tables, 133 figures, graphics and photos were present in the total
of 72 articles. Only 18 tables, 28 drawings and pictures did not have errors in
total of 14 articles.
CONCLUSION: References, pictures, tables, figures and graphs include high
rate of typographical/spelling errors. In articles written to be sent to the journals,
references, spelling rules should carefully be examined and pictures, figures and
graphics should carefully be corrected prior to the submission
Development after Statism:Industrial Firms and the Political Economy of South Asia
How can industrial production be managed without the guidance of the state? Adnan Naseemullah discusses industrial development in a new era of drastically constricted state capacity, from the perspective of the manufacturing firm. India's manufacturing economy has been growing after state promotion has receded. How, then, does Indian manufacturing develop in this context? Naseemullah argues that Indian firms must create production structures themselves, investing in networks of capital and labor without signals from above. Depending on manufacturers' backgrounds, these relationships are based either on formal rules or through personal ties, creating a patchwork of institutions that crosscut region and sector. As a result, many firms have been able to regain some certainty for investment, but at the cost of national coherence and the possibility of broader transformation. As a mirror case, this book also explores Pakistan's industrial trajectories, in which similar dynamics suggest the broader applicability of this framewor
Author recognition for Turkish documents
Today, the studies of author recognition have been made for providing the solutions of the problems which occur by developing and growing of information technology. Some of these problems are to specify the authors who the papers are exactly written by. In this study, some systems about author recognition for Turkish documents have been developed. For generating the systems, we have used the columns which belong to six authors in some newspapers. A corpus which includes totally 420 documents is constructed for training and testing of the systems. Each author has seventy documents. Twenty documents of every author are used for training operation. But, the other documents are utilized for testing stage. The features of word, stem, syllable, character and their n-grams are decided for each documents of these six author. Author recognition systems have been developed with the methods as K-Nearest Neighbor, Support Vector Machine, Multi-Layer Perceptron and Learning Vector Quantization. The feature vectors? lengths of the systems developed by K-Nearest Neighbor have been chosen as 120, 180 and 240. Because the most successful results are obtained as the length of the feature vectors is 120, we have used this length for the other methods. After the developed systems are trained the methods, the systems have been tested and evaluated according to accuracy and F-measure values
The unpublished poems of ahdi-i baghdadi (d. 1002/1593-94)
Ahdi known for his biographical book called Gülşen-i Şuara. He is a 16th century poet and author. According to sources the real name is Ahmed or Mehdi. Ahdi has recorded his name in their work Gülşen-i Şuara asAhdi ibnü Şemsi-i Baghdadi. He is from Baghdad and there is no record of Ahdi’s birthday. According to the information given in Gülşen-i Şuara he decided to go to Anatolia with his poet friend Hüsrev and has arrived in Istanbul for a while after visiting various parts of Anatolia. Ahdi liked Istanbul very much and in which remained a long time. During this time he met with the famous poet and scholar and statesmen and artists in Istanbul. Then whenhe decided to return to Baghdad he thought of writing a biographicalbook about Turkish poets. He wrote his work Gülşen-i Şuara and presented itPrince Selim II in Kütahya and than he returned to Baghdad and then died after living here for a long time. Ahdi’s poems that we have indicates that he knows the Turkish language very well. There is no information about whether Divanin the sources andalso a copy of his Divan has not yet been found in libraries but there is enough his poem thatlocated in different manuscriptsto create Divance. There are also a part of his poems in his work Gülşen-i Şuara. In addition Hasibe Mazıoglu and Zülfü Güler also previously published Ahdi’s another poems that located in different manuscripts. Riots and rebellion: State, society and the geography of conflict in India
This article argues that different types of politically motivated violence in South Asia are associated with different forms of governance and relationships between society and the state. This variation in local governance in turn is the product of unevenness in state formation across the political geography of India. It classifies conflict events in India in 2015 and 2016 into conceptual categories of sovereignty-neutral and sovereignty-challenging, theoretically reflecting the commonsense distinction between riots and rebellion. It presents evidence that different categories of state-society regimes at the district level are associated with different patterns of sovereignty-neutral and -challenging violence. It finds that urban-adjacent hegemonic state-society regimes are associated with high levels of sovereignty-neutral violence, revised state-society regimes with traditionally restrained state capacity are associated with high levels of sovereignty-challenging violence, and fragmented and accommodative regimes in the agrarian hinterland are associated with intermediary positions in both categories
The International Political Economy of the Middle-income Trap
Developing countries face uncertain trajectories for growth in the twenty-first century, with many finding themselves a ‘middle-income trap’. Extant theories in the politics of development that focus on domestic institutional strength and weakness represent necessary but not fully sufficient explanations for the trajectories of middle-income countries. In order to explain uncertain and uneven development outcomes in an era of heightened globalisation, this article seeks to explore the impact of international institutions, specifically the post-Cold War structures of trade and investment and global value chains, on the possibilities for growth for middle-income countries. The particular character of rules and norms defining trade and investment and the power dynamics behind their design suggest that international institutions as well as domestic factors explain disappointing and increasingly unequal development outcomes among middle-income countries.</p
