    A Taxonomic Revision and Phylogenetic Analysis Of Hornstedtia Retz. (Zingiberaceae) in Sumatra

    The genus Hornstedtia Retz. of Zingiberaceae consists of approximately 89 species, all of which are herbs. The genus is distributed from India to the Solomon Islands and northern Queensland. The main diversity is within Malesia, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia. The diversity of the genus in Sumatra is less well studied compared to neighbouring areas like the Malay Peninsula and Borneo. The aim of the current study is to study the species in Sumatra and adjacent small islands covering the morphology, including pollen, taxonomy and phylogeny based on molecular data with the ITS marker in order to obtain a better understanding of the relationship ofthe species and approximate genera. The present study recognises nineteen taxa in Smnatra, consisting of 16 species and three varieties. One species is proposed as new to science, namely H. panyabungemsis Nurainas, one is proposed as a new variety, namely H. tomentosa var. viridis Nurainas, two are proposed as new status (H. fusiformis vaj.fusiformis (Holttum) Nirainas and H. fusiformis var. grandis (Ridl.) Nurainas), two are proposed as new combinations (H. padangense (K Schum.) Nurainas and H. vestita (K. Schum.) Nurainas & A.D. Poulsen). The study of the pollen morphology shows that species of Hornstedtia from Sumatra has monad or monolete pollen. The polarity of pollen is either isopolar or heteropolar. Hornstedtia has big pollen of 69.02-86.71 um a long the polar axis and 57.12-72.51 um along the equatorial axis. The pollen are prolat, sferoidal or ovoid with no apertures and ruminate ornamentation. Morphology of the pollen has significant implication for differentiation between genera, but it is not necessary to distinguish between species

    Analysis of Natural Hybrid Between Nepenthes gymnamphora Reinw. ex Nees with Nepenthes inermis Danser Based On Geometric Morphometrics

    Abstract - Recently, based on preliminary observations in the field of Nepenthes populations found in Mount Kunyit, Kerinci Regency, Sumatra, several Nepenthes species were found to live sympatrically, namely N. gymnamphora with N. inermis. On the other hand, a population of Nepenthes that is assumed to be a natural hybrid of the two species was also found. This unidentified taxon is very different from other Nepenthes in the habitat because it has intermediate pitcher characters with its parents. However, it is not yet known which taxon is the parent. In this study, the approach used was geometric morphometric analysis. The images were photographed from two different views, i.e., top view (lid) and front view (body with peristome). A total of 17 images (5 images from N. gymnamphora, 6 images from N. inermis and 6 images from its natural hybrid. All analyses used Momocs Package in R Statistical Software. The results of this study are variations in the shape of the pitcher of putative natural hybrids between N. gymnamphora and N. inermis species in the shape of the pitcher in front view and the size of the pitcher lid in lid view. Nepenthes individuals that have intermediate shape characters with both parents (N. gymnamphora and N. inermis) are natural hybrid individuals. Key words - Geometric morphometrics, intermediate, Natural hybrid, Nepenthes, PCA

    Belimbing Tanah (B. parviflora), anggota genus Baccaurea, telah digunakan sebagai obat tradisional oleh masyarakat. Pemanfaatan Baccaurea sebagai bahan obat disebabkan karena adanya kandungan fitokimianya yang dapat berfungsi sebagai agen antioksidan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menyelidiki kandungan antioksidan pada daun Belimbing Tanah pada dua ketinggian yang berbeda. Metode DPPH (2,2-Difenil-1-Pikrihidrazil) digunakan untuk menguji aktivitas antioksidan. Aktivitas antioksidan pada dua lokasi yang berbeda ketinggian tergolong kategori aktivitas kuat, yang diperoleh pada dataran tinggi yaitu Desa Muaro Hemat, Kerinci, Jambi dengan nilai sebesar 54,01 μg/mL dan dataran rendah di Kebun Tanaman Obat Universitas Andalas, Padang sebesar 59,69 μg/mL kua

    Famili Cyperaceae merupakan famili terbesar ketiga dari kelas monokotil. Jenis-jenis dari famili ini bersifat kosmopolit yang dapat ditemukan dimana saja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis Cyperaceae yang terdapat di Sumatera Barat dan distribusi jenis-jenis Cyperaceae di Sumatera Barat. Metode pengambilan data mengikuti metode herbarium dan data diperoleh berbasis spesimen Herbarium ANDA yang telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret hingga bulan Juli 2021. Dari hasil penelitian, didapatkan 76 spesies dari 20 genus dalam 2 subfamili. Cyperus procerus merupakan jenis new occurrence untuk wilayah Sumatera, sedangkan Cyperus sphacelatus, Eleocharis pellucida, Fimbristylis fusca, Mapania sumatrana, Pycreus pumilus dan Scleria lithosperma new occurrence untuk wilayah Sumatera Barat. Secara administratif pada tingkat kabupaten dan kota, jenis yang paling tinggi ditemukan di Kota Padang dan paling sedikit dari Kota Solok dan Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai. Cyperus cyperoides merupakan jenis yang paling umum atau dominan ditemukan di daerah-daerah yang ada di Sumatera Barat. Secara altitudinal jenis Cyperaceae paling banyak ditemukan di zona low elevation hills dan paling sedikit ditemukan pada zona pegunungan atas atau puncak gunung (tropical uppermontane and subalpine)

    Ethnobotany reveals that the relationship between human life and plants is one that cannot be separated,  One of the plant families that is most widely used in everyday life is Zingiberaceae, also known as the ginger tribe. Many local ethnic groups in Indonesia use the family Zingiberaceae as ingredients for medicines (ethnomedicin), ethno-economics, ethno-ecology, traditional or ritual processions, and ethnopharmacology. Local people from various ethnicities in the world take advantage of this family because of the large amount available in nature and its distinctive aroma and taste that are different from other families. Several ethnic groups have used the family Zingiberaceae as raw materials for traditional medicine, food ingredients, and cultural traditions for generations, namely the Lingga Malay ethnic group in the Riau Islands, the local Rupat Island community in Riau, the Toba Batak ethnic community in North Sumatra, and the Minangkabau ethnic group in West Sumatra.

    Hornstedtia leonurus is one species of the Hornstedtia’s genera in Alpiniae Tribe (Zingiberaceae). It has unambiguous expressed some aberrations of morphological characters in what Hornstedtia should have. On the contrary, it has with it self some characters from other genera within the tribe of Alpiniae, such as Etlingera and Amomum. The research aimed to find some distorsion on morphological characters of the H. leonurus with its close selected sisters in Alpiniae Tribe (Etlingera megalocheilos and Amomum cardamomum) and determined their were characters relationship by a morphometric study. The materials collected from West Sumatra province (50 Kota, Padang and Sijunjung regency) on September until December 2015. Morphometric analysis used PAST version 2.17c and SPSS computer programs. Morphologically, H. leonurus closely related with E. megalocheilos rather than its sister in Hornstedtia genera (H. schypifera) and A. cardamomum.Keywords: Alpiniae, H. leonurus, morphometric, relationship, Zingiberaceae

    Karakterisasi Struktur Anatomi Kayu Pada Beberapa Genus Dalam Famili Sapindaceae Di Sumatera Barat

    Anatomical structure characterization of some wood genus of Sapindaceae in West Sumatra was conducted from May to October 2015 with survey and direct observation method. Cluster analysis conducted using PAST program to determine relationship among genus investigate on present study. The woods of nine genus namely Filicium, Nephelium, Pometia, Guioa, Xerospermum, Sapindus, Harpullia, Lepisanthes and Mischocarpus were analyzed. All of i.e, character vessels, parenchyma, rays and fibre morphology were analyzed by using permanent slide based on Sass (1958) procedured. The results showed all of woods have same type of porous namely diffuse porous. Type of vessel distribution namely soliter in Xerospermum and multiple in Filicium, Nephelium, Pometia, Guioa, Sapindus, Harpullia, Lepisanthes and Mischocarpus. Xylem parenchym type namely apotracheal in Pometia and Lepisanthes and paratracheal in Filicium, Nephelium, Guioa, Xerospermum, Sapindus, Harpullia and Mischocarpus. Rays type namely uniseriate type in Nephelium, Pometia, Sapindus, Harpullia and Lepisanthes and multiseriate type in Filicium, Guioa, Xerospermum and Mischocarpus. Rays composition namely heterocellular in Filicium, Sapindus, Harpullia and Nephelium and homocellular in Mischocarpus, Lepisanthes, Pometia, Xerospermum and Guioa. Fiber size is long chategory in Nephelium genus, medium in Filicium, Xerospermum, Harpullia and Lepisanthes, and short chategory in Pometia, Sapindus, Guioa, and Mischocarpus. Cluster analysis showed up among genus present of two cluster namely uniseriate rays cluster and multiseriate rays cluster. Both the cluster genus member showed clustering tightly except Nephelium genus weakly clustering in the multiseriate cluster do to have different fiber size chategory from the other genus.     INVENTORY OF CELASTRACEAE (PARUPUK-PARUPUKAN) SPECIES BASED ON HERBARIUM SPECIMENS OF ANDALAS UNIVERSITY (ANDA)

    Celastraceae has various benefits. However, research on the identification and distribution of Celastraceae species, particularly in Sumatra, is still limited. Therefore, further studies are needed on the identification and distribution of Celastraceae in Sumatra. The Herbarium of Universitas Andalas (ANDA) has a collection of Celastraceae specimens, most of which have not been identified to the species level. Given the high diversity of flora in Indonesia, especially in Sumatra, identifying Celastraceae species is an important step to better understand the potential of these plants. This study aims to determine Celastraceae species and their distribution based on specimens from Herbarium ANDA, which is expected to enrich scientific knowledge about biodiversity in Indonesia and open up opportunities for further utilization of the Celastraceae family. The method used is herbarium-based, involving the management of specimens from Herbarium ANDA. This study identified fifteen species from six genera: Celastrus, Euonymus, Glyptopetalum, Lophopetalum, Microtropis, and Salacia. The distribution of Celastraceae plants in Herbarium ANDA covers West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Riau, and one species from Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. Most specimens are from West Sumatra, with the distribution detailed as follows: seven species from Padang; two species each from Solok, Lima Puluh Kota, Pasaman, and Mentawai; and one species from Agam and Pasaman Barat. In Riau Province, two species were found in Kampar, and in North Sumatra Province, one species was found in South Tapanuli.Keywords:  Celastraceae, Distribution, Inventory, Species

    Inventarisasi Hydrophyte di Sumatera Barat Berbasis Spesimen Herbarium Universitas Andalas (ANDA)

    Hydrophyte merupakan penggambaran habitat dari tumbuhan yang hidup di air baik terendam sebagian atau seluruhnya. Indonesia memiliki kekayaan jenis hydrophyte yang sangat tinggi, namun penelitian terkait inventarisasi belum dilakukan secara menyeluruh. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kekayaan jenis hydrophyte air tawar yang ada di Sumatera Barat dan dikelompokkan berdasarkan life-form. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada November 2020 hingga Maret 2021. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi dan data diperoleh menggunakan metode herbarium. Semua informasi pada label spesimen (occurence, taxon information dan event) diamati dan dicatat. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan 78 spesies dengan 54 genus dari 28 famili hydrophyte di Herbarium ANDA. Sebanyak 11 famili merupakan kelas Liliopsida dan 17 famili kelas Magnoliopsida. Berdasarkan life-form 2 jenis merupakan free-floating, 4 jenis floating-leaves, 7 jenis submersed dan 65 jenis lainnya merupakan emergent. Informasi penting secara konservasi pada penelitian yaitu ditemukan 4 spesies endemik dan 2 spesies new occurence. Tiga spesies endemik Sumatera, yaitu Apoballis okadae, Furtadoa sumatrensis (Araceae) dan Potamogeton sumatranus (Potamogetonaceae). Satu spesies endemik Sumatera Barat, yaitu Homalomena rusdii (Araceae). Taksa new occurence, Eleocharis acicularis (Cyperaceae) sebelumnya di Indonesia hanya ditemukan di Sumatera Utara, pada penelitian ini ditemukan di Sumatera Barat, Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota. Heteranthera reniformis (Pontederiaceae) sebelumnya di Indonesia hanya ditemukan di Bogor, Jawa Barat, pada penelitian ini ditemukan di Kabupaten Tanah Datar, Sumatera Barat

    Vegetation Analysis and Population Structure of Plants at Forest Area, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia

    Solok Regency is a highland area in West Sumatra with a topography that varies between plains, valleys and mountains. The aim of this study was to determine the vegetation structure that affects the population of Bilongkiang (Zingiber sp.). This study used the quadratic method and determined the research location by purposive sampling with plot size determined based on the vegetation strata, namely: understorey and seedling (2x2 m2, poles (5x5 m2, and trees (10x10 m2). Data analysis was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively. Quantitative data analysis by calculating: Density (Kr), Frequency (Fr), Dominance (Dr), Importance Value Index (INP) and Diversity Index (H'). The results of the study found as many as 33 families consisting of 53 species with a total number of 79 individuals spread over two research locations which were divided into understorey plants/seedlings, poles and trees. The highest Important Value Index (INP) in Nagari Surian was found in the pole strata, which was 180.30% and in Nagari Talang Babungo, the INP was also found in the pole strata, which was 91.85%. This value is included in the high category. The diversity index (H') of plants in the study area is H' = 2.12, which means that the diversity of species in the study area is moderate
