Correction for ‘One-step coelectrodeposition-assisted layer-by-layer assembly of gold nanoparticles and reduced graphene oxide and its self-healing three-dimensional nanohybrid for an ultrasensitive DNA sensor’ by Jayakumar Kumarasamy, et al., Nanoscale, 2018, DOI: 10.1039/c7nr06952a. The names of two of the co-authors are given incorrectly in the published article. “Jayakumar Kumarasamy should instead be listed as “Kumarasamy Jayakumar, and “Dharuman Venkatraman should instead be listed as “Venkataraman Dharuman as shown in the corrected author list above. The Royal Society of Chemistry apologises for these errors and any consequent inconvenience to authors and readers

Gestational diabetes and the incidence of diabetes in the 5 years following the index pregnancy in South Indian women

No full text
This study was carried out to examine the incidence of diabetes and the factors associated with this in a cohort of South Indian women 5 years after they were examined for gestational diabetes (GDM). Women (N=630) whose GDM status was determined (Carpenter-Coustan criteria; GDM: N=41) delivered live babies without major anomalies at the Holdsworth Memorial Hospital, Mysore. Of these, 526 women (GDM: N=35) available for follow-up after 5 years underwent a 2-h oral glucose tolerance test and detailed anthropometry. Diabetes was determined using WHO criteria, and Metabolic Syndrome using IDF criteria recommended for south Asian women. The incidence of diabetes (37% versus 2%) and Metabolic Syndrome (60% versus 26%) was considerably higher in women with previous GDM compared to non-GDM women. GDM women who developed diabetes had lower gestational insulin area-under-the-curve (P=0.05). They had larger waist-to-hip ratio, skinfolds, body mass index, and lower 30-min insulin increment at follow-up than other GDM women. In all, history of diabetes in first-degree relatives was independently associated with higher incidence of diabetes (P<0.001). Our findings suggest high diabetes and cardiovascular risks in women with previous GDM. Follow-up of these women after delivery would provide opportunities to modify adverse lifestyle factor

Influence of Silver-Coated Tool Electrode on Electrochemical Micromachining of Incoloy 825

Incoloy 825 alloy is often used in calorifiers, propeller shafts, and tank vehicles owing to the improved resistance to aqueous corrosion. The electrochemical micromachining process can be utilized to machine such an engineering material owing to higher precision and lower tool wear. In the present study, an investigation was performed to enhance the process of creating micro-holes using silver-coated copper tool electrodes. The sodium nitrate electrolyte was used under different levels of input parameters such as voltage, electrolyte concentration, frequency, and duty cycle with a view to improving material removal rate, conicity, overcut, and circularity. It was found that silver-coated copper tool electrode had a high material removal rate (MRR), better overcut, conicity, and circularity compared to uncoated copper tools in most cases, due to its high corrosive resistance and electrical conductivity. From SEM and EDS analysis, it was observed that better surface topography of the micro-holes is obtained with silver-coated copper tool electrode while machining Incoloy 825 alloy in the micromachining process

An O(n²) maximal planarization algorithm based on PQ-trees

No full text
In this paper we investigate the problem how to delete a number of edges from a nonplanar graph G such that the resulting graph G’ is maximal planar, i.e., such that we cannot add an edge e E G – G’ to G’ without destroying planarity. Actually, our algorithm is a corrected and more generalized version of the maximal planarization algorithm of Jayakumar et al., based on the planarity testing algorithm using PQ-trees of Booth & Lucker. Our algorithm can be implemented to run in O(n²) time
