Nature et seconde nature dans l'enseignement/apprentissage des langues
Abstract
The author criticizes, from an epistemological point of view, the "naturalist argument" which underlies a number of current propositions bearing on second language learning, be it in "natural" or in formal contexts. In the first section, he contests Piaget's (1957) interpretation of Comenius' Didacta Magna (he is presented as "one of the precursors of the genetic principle in developmental psychology"), because it completely occults what Comenius borrows from Aristotle's "practical syllogism"as it has been reinterpreted by the christian tradition. In a second section, it is shown how Krashen's "Acquisition/Learning Hypothesis" follows not only from the "two brain theory", as it was formulated in the 1970s, but also from certain "naturalist" presuppositions which have been widely accepted by the Western language teaching tradition, and which can be found in most of the recent "acquistion studies". Finally, in a third section, the author proposes the idea (based on Bruner, 1987; Jolibert, 1987 and Bronckart, 1996) that the learning of a language depends on a form of "social learning" at least as much as on a genetically inherited neurobiological device, about which we still have little knowledge, in spite of recent progress on the part of the cognitive sciences
Rehabilitating the Anthropocene: A holistic approach to the redevelopment of the industrial site of Shell-Pernis during the energy transition
The issues of environmental challenges, increasing per capita demand and decreasing finite stocks are triggering the demand for greener alternatives in resource production and consumption. The phenomena of bioeconomy comprehends the sustainable conversion and production of biomass for energy, health and industrial products. A vital component of bioeconomy, is the concept of the biorefinery, which has the potential to rep¬lace conventional petroleum refineries in order to produce energy and material products with 2nd generation biomass feedstock. In the search for renewable production landscapes, the current situation of pollution and contamination cannot be neglected. Tis paper investigates the situation and possibilities for the industrial site of Shell-Pernis in the Port of Rotterdam. The soils of Shell-Pernis are highly contaminated with Mineral oils, heavy metals (e.g. Zn, Cu, Cd, Hg, etc), and PAHs. In order to clean these soils and provide feedstock for a proposed biorefinery, a set of 25 different plant species is contrived, which form building blocks for ecological interventions to transform a deteriorated, fossil-based industrial site into an accessible bio-industrial park. These interventions follow the rule of multiple functions, as all plants provide various ecosystem services such as production of biofuels, bioremediation, attracting wildlife, fixating nitrogen, preventing erosion and other additional benefits. Hence, the interventions have the potential to make a polluted industrial area safer and healthier, and provide a pleasant stay for the public. This research and design project shows how Shell-Pernis has the potential to become a flagship site of the green industry where bio-economic and rehabilitating activities are shown to the outer world in order to educate and stimulate sustainable growth
DIGITAL LANGUAGE LEARNING THROUGH INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN BY USING TUBEQUIZARD IN EFL CLASSROOM
In today's information technology-integrated education, designing teaching activities for digital learning and flexibly using technology tools is the most important issue. The design of authentic materials and materials in English as a second or foreign language via Tubequizard's innovative web has a significant impact on language learners at the university level, according to this paper. Applying a mixed method, this study highlighted the undergraduate students’ perceptions of their experience with Tubequizard as ELT materials during COVID 19. By using purposive sampling, this study sample involved 71 students and five students for an online interview at the computer science faculty of Universitas Al Asyariah Mandar located at West Sulawesi, Indonesia. By conducting an online survey, the instruments of this study used a questionnaire and interviews. The findings of this study resulted in Tubequizard content being helpful to students to engage and motivate them in learning English, and their respondents strongly believe that Tubequizard is a technology innovation for lecturers in designing their teaching materials to be more interesting, easy to understand, Tubequizard materials according to the student’s needs, supported accelerate learning, suitable for all English skills, engage students in active and autonomous learning, expand students’ knowledge, meet positively students expectations in English class, encourage students to think creatively and critically, and suitable to give ideas for EFL classroom than the traditional model. Thus, it can be concluded that for teaching foreign languages, authentic and culturally appropriate materials are essential
Increasing the Understanding of the Physical Concept through the Usage of Video based on Natural Phenomena of Students in Grade VIII MTs. As'adiyah Puteri II Sengkang Center
The study is a classroom action research, which aims at describing the comprehension of physics concept using natural phenomenon-based video of grade VIII students at MTs. As’adiyah Puteri II Pusat Sengkang. The research design employed path diagram in classroom action research (an adaptation of classroom action research stage of Mikayla-Exactio Tunujaya & Mumu model). The research subjects were students of grade VIII-1 at MTs. As’adiyah Puteri II Pusat Sengkang. The test of comprehension of physics concept and video of natural phenomenon-based were validated by two experts. Based on the results of the study, it is discovered that there is improving the percentage of comprehension of physics concept using natural phenomenon-based video, namely 34.78% in cycle 1 with 8 students obtain the incomplete score. There is 65.22% with 15 students obtain a complete score in cycle 1. In cycle 2, there is the improvement of comprehension of physics concept to 100% complete with 23 students who obtain a complete score. It indicates that there is an improvement of comprehension of physics concept with indicators of translation, interpretation, and extrapolation by using natural phenomenon-based video.
