Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Background: Labor is a physiological process experienced by women through a series of natural processes starting from uterine contractions to be able to give birth to the fetus. Research shows that during normal delivery mothers are still allowed to eat and drink because there is no strong evidence that causes aspiration. Nutrition during labor as an energy source can be obtained from dates (Phoenix Dactilifera). Research shows dates have good nutritional value for carbohydrate-rich bodies and have been shown to influence the progress of labor and increase labor, and reduce postpartum hemorrhage. Objective: to prove whether there is an effect of the administration of date palm juice (Dactilifera Phoenix) to first-time mothers on the duration of labor in the Langsa Baro Health Center.Method: This research is a quasi experiment with a nonequivalent posttest only control group design approach. This research was conducted in the Work Area of the Langsa Baro Health Center from July 11 to September 22 2017 with the place of delivery in the Polindes. The number of samples for each group was 15 people in the intervention group and 15 people in the control group. To avoid drop outs, the number of samples is added by 10% (2 people) so that each group is 17 people. Data analysis Data normality test uses the Shapiro-Wilk test and Parametric Test uses the Independent T-Test for normal distribution data to look for differences in the average of the control group with treatment. Results: The results of the study with the data normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk test showed that the duration of labor in the two groups had a p-value of 0.247 (p> 0.05) meaning that the data were normally distributed. And the Independent T-Test shows the difference in the average duration of labor in the two groups. In the control group the average duration of labor was 12.09 while in the treatment group it was 11.23, showing no significant difference in the mean values in the two groups with p-value = 0.011. This shows that statistically the administration of date palm juice cannot accelerate the duration of labor. Conclusion: There were differences in the average duration of labor in the control and treatment groups. In the control group the average duration of labor was 12.09 hours and the treatment group was 11.23 hours. And the date palm juice did not significantly speed up the duration of labor (p-value = 0.011)

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

ABSTRACT The Indonesian government has implemented family planning (FP) to reduce the rate of population growth. With the development of the family planning program launched by the government, contraception is also growing. Various choices of contraceptives are offered to the public. Injectable contraception is a drug to prevent pregnancy that is used by injecting the drug into fertile women. The use of injectable contraception for either one month or three months has a major side effect, namely weight gain. Factors that affect the bodyweight of injectable contraceptive acceptors are the presence of a strong progesterone hormone that stimulates the appetite hormone in the hypothalamus. To analyze the relationship between the use of depo medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) injectable contraceptives and maternal weight gain. The research design used observational analytics with a cross-sectional research design. The population is all maternal who use DMPA contraception at Langsa Baro Public Health Center. The sample of the study was 96 mothers using a random sampling technique. Data analysis technique using Pearson correlation test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the use of injections for 3 months with an increase in body weight with a value of P (sig) = 0.000 (<0.05) or a value of r = 0.775 (r<1). These results indicate that there is a relationship between the use of Depo-Medrol progesterone acetate (DMPA) injectable contraception and weight gain in mothers at the Langsa Baro Public Health Center. The use of Depo-Medrol progesterone acetate (DMPA) injectable contraceptives is associated with increased body weight.  Keywords: Weight Gain, Depomedroxy Progesterone Acetate (DMPA), Acceptor Family Planing (FB) ABSTRAK Pemerintah Indonesia telah menerapkan keluarga berencana (KB) untuk menekan laju pertumbuhan penduduk. Background: The prevalence of hyperglycemia in adolescents is increasing. Lack of awareness for blood sugar screening causes cases of hyperglycemia to be undiagnosed. Objective: This study aims to analyze the factors influencing blood glucose levels among students of the Midwifery Study Program at Langsa Polytechnic of Health, Ministry of Health, Aceh, in 2025. Method: This study employed a cross-sectional design with a proportional sample of 51 students. The variables studied included sugar consumption patterns, physical activity, family history of diabetes, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Data were collected through questionnaires, random blood glucose level measurements, and BMI calculations. Results: The results showed that family history of diabetes (p = 0.029) and BMI (p = 0.032) had a significant relationship with blood glucose levels. In contrast, sugar consumption patterns (p = 0.347) and physical activity (p = 0.492) did not show significant associations. Conclusion: These findings indicate that genetic factors and nutritional status have a more significant impact on blood glucose levels than dietary habits and physical activity. Therefore, students with a family history of diabetes and high BMI should be more aware of their diet and lifestyle to prevent blood glucose imbalance
